If you've moved since your last reunion, don't "miss out." Update your contact info using the "Sign-up/Update" link on MSO. Check the class-specific alumni "missing persons" lists, too, and help us find some of our classmates. Many of you aboard MSO have siblings who are "missing"... and you're our only possible connection. THANK YOU: Supporters this past month..... Mary Millison Pritchard (1971), Denise Jones Holibaugh (1982) and Alan Holibaugh (1978), Andy Harper (1967), Elizabeth "Betz" Hanley (Staff), Robbie Welsh (1975), and Jody Rosenberg (1981); and to all of our "pledged" supporters! For information on how you can help, click on the "Donations" link on MSO, which will take you to a secure server where the instructions can be found. Directly, https://id267.securedata.net/pearyhs/donation.htm FROM ALICE SYELES O'DONNELL, PEARY STAFF 1964-67: I want to thank MSO for all its efforts and especially for the personal contacts. It's been fun responding to the students who have contacted me.  I look forward to more!!!  Dr. Marton was my first "boss" in the teaching field and a wonderful person, friend, and teacher. Thanks so much for the Washington Post article. Re Ms Hanley, we weren't at Peary at the same time, but I met her years later at a reunion of our own high school in Silver Spring. (She is the sister of one of my classmates.) Keep up the good work.  There are tons of us out here who really appreciate the website and all the activity around it. - "AJ" (Syeles) O'Donnell MISC FACTS: Did you know that Coach William "Bill" Williams was inducted into the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1993? Coach Duane Black was inducted into the Maryland Coaches Hall of Fame in 1998? That Coach Ed Burlas taught at Peary the entire time that Peary was opened from 1960-1984? Mr. Hill was there for all but the first year? Dr. Dunn attends most class reunions (as do Mr. Hill and Mr. Burlas)?! The Staff Alums stay in touch and meet occasionally. We'd love some updates from former staff, especially e-mail address updates for those who have been removed due to bad e-mail addresses... so your former students can write/contact! Staff alums, please pass this along to your former colleagues if you see them - thanks! We have not had any "group" staff alumni updates/news since 1997, and Mary Thomson's AOL had outside e-mails blocked, thus subsequently removed from the active listings. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Chanukah, Bob Lau, Editor/Webmaster - blau@viawest.net The Midnight Sun Online - Robert E. Peary High School P.S. If you wish to directly reply or comment, please don't quote the entire newsletter back. Create a new e-mail to blau@viawest.net. ALWAYS include your grad year in the correspondence. Just a quick note to let all who remember me from the Class of '72 know that on October 19th, 2004, Joshua Gilliam Jacobson was born in Tampa, Florida. My newest son came into this world a trim 6 lbs. 13.5 ounces, 21 inches long! and... on October 21st, 2004, Joshua's mom, Pamela Gilliam Knight, honored me by becoming Pamela Jacobson, my most gorgeous, intelligent and interesting wife. Pamela is a pilot who is currently flying for the local government in both fixed and rotary winged aircraft. For now, I've decided to be Mr. Mom and have resigned from the local government after 21 {mostly fun} years. We now live on the outskirts of Tampa in the tiny town of Thonotosassa {whose name is longer than the main street!} don't know what I'll be doing for the next few decades.. but from the sounds my son is now making.. Occupation: Real Estate Settlement Administrator, Spouse: Mark (Manager, Lowe's Home Improvements) Since High School: Since graduating from Peary, I have been working in the real estate industry from the law side. I have just become a real estate agent with Long & Foster in Damascus, Maryland, and hope to do that full time in the future. I am also a stained-glass artist. I mainly do that as a hobby, but I love it. I have been with my husband, Mark, since 1986 (married in 1996), and hopefully many more years to come. Memorable Teacher: Mrs. Glass was my favorite teacher. I love anything artistic and she would always encourage me to do bigger and better things. Other alums I know about? Deborah Travers (Frederick, MD) ********** From: Linda Sheaffer Osborne (1974) Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2004 Subject: Update Occupation: Substitute Teacher. For the past two years I have subbed at over 50 MCPS schools and have been to grades K-12. I am the "unsinkable" sub. I'm a glutton for punishment, but really I like the experience - something different every day and most of it so rewarding. Currently: I'm in grad school at Johns Hopkins to become an English teacher in secondary school. I can't believe it myself. Ever since reading one of Carson McCuller's novels in 11th grade, I can remember enjoying American and English literature. Before sub jobs, I worked in the corporate world -law firms for many years and before that up in New York City for a wine importer. I miss New York and where I lived in beautiful Rowayton, Connecticut, but after coming back to the area 14 years ago, I met my husband, a Peary alum from class of 1968. Mike's daughters, my step-daughters, are great. Melanie graduated Towson and is a nurse in the ER at Anne Arundel Hospital and Rachel, who graduated Towson as well, is married, a kindergarten teacher in Annapolis and has our first grandchild on the way in March. Mike and I have our daughter Morgan, who keeps us hoppin. Morgan is 12, in 7th grade at Farquhar and lovin' life. I can remember 7th grade vividly from Parkland Jr. High. It doesn't seem that long ago. (I've even subbed there - that was weird - not to mention it has changed quite a bit!) Memorable Incidents: Living on Arctic Ave., we always had someone driving by to wave at or that would stop and say hi. My parents still live there!! They are doing quite well. My brother Dan is in the area, my brother Rusty lives in Somerset, PA. My sister Deb lives in South Africa. I dated John Butcher (one of the Butcher twins) from class of 1973, during my senior year. We double dated with Danny Cannon and Jody Orell for the Sr. Prom. Hi to all 3 of you if you read this. Jody, I hear you're a science teacher in the county. I also hung out with Robert Doud. He was a year behind us. Does anyone know his whereabouts? I would love to know. Hi to Sherri Poyourow Perez - do you remember me? - saw your email. I think we had English together. And I remember Brad Johns well - hey Brad if you see this! Chris Hamlin, Linda Schulman, Rona, Gary, etc. how are you all? The last reunion was really fun - Risa Feingold Shem-Tov and I had a blast seeing so many old (not old as in old!) classmates. Everyone should try to make it the next. Memorable teachers: Mr. Boteler, Mrs. Simon, Ms. Wiltse, Ms. Tigani ********** From: Rob Henry (1979) Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2004 Subject: Update The Peary/MSO website... I've been following it for years. Occupation: physician, Spouse: Ran Einarsdottir Henry (Psychologist), Children: Charlie 15 yo and Calvin 2weeks (10/11/04), Grandchildren: N/A, thank goodness Memorable Incidents: Track and Cross Country events, the passing of Kevin Lynch, and Greg Emel and I being the only two males to pick one another to be deserted on a desert island for Mr. Clarke's bonus question. Since High School: Graduated from U. North Carolina at Charlotte (BA in History), US Navy (4 years active, 2 reserve), many odd jobs including custom crafting lenses..."in about an hour", Medical School, Residency in Seattle, practicing as a Forensics Psychiatrist in Spokane and now raising a family. That's the presentable part anyway. Future Plans: Get my young-uns raised and get a winter condo in Hawaii and summer in Nelson, B.C. Lots of fishing along the way Memorable Teachers: Stanton Boeteler for his wonderful and compassionate concern for students. Mr. Clarke for taking that water balloon in the face so well. Ms. Tigani for her insight into my heart, and Mrs. Black for her cornbread and buttermilk sassyness. This is a surreal trip accented by collisions with reality. ********** From: Steven R. Just a brief update to let you all know. I got a part in a film called "Domino." It stars Christopher Walken, Keira Knightely, Mickey Roarke and a bunch of other stars! I play (and I know I'll get some funny email comments on this on) a Bounty Hunter at a seminar! hahah Yeah, I know..I was a tough broad in this film. It's directed by Tony Scott (Man of Fire, Days of Thunder, True Romance...etc...) and it's written by Richard Kelly, who wrote Donny Darko. So, you can only imagine the incredible film that's going to come out of this. I had the pleasure of working with both Mickey and Keira. If you go to my site (www.allieraye.com) just follow the link and you'll see pictures from the set. I had a blast. Anyway, when I'm not acting, I'm producing and I love that too. I can't decide which I like better. I just finished producing two films back to back and it's the first time I didn't act in the film I produced. Now, that was weird!! So, that's that. Look for "Domino" in the beginning of 2005. It seems like it's going to be a huge hit. Updates will be posted at my site. ********** From: Kelly DeGraff Gibson (1980) Date: Tue, 9 Nov 2004 Subject: Update I found out about the website from another alumni. The time Judy broke my bottle of Lauren in the auditorium and Mr. Boyd made us stay after class and hold the doors open to air it out. Singing in the bathroom with Judy and getting yelled at by the sign language teacher...lots more that I probably shouldn't share! Since High School: I worked a few different jobs trying to find the one I loved, which ended up being at the American Institute of CPAs as an Admin Assistant. Adopted my first (BEST!!!) dog in '92, met my husband in '93, had our two children, took a job closer to home to spend more time with my kids, adopted dog #2 in '02. My soul dog had to be put to sleep in August '04, so we adopted dog #3 from the shelter I volunteer for so she wouldn't die in the gas chamber. Future Plans: I hope to see my children grow up and do great things for this world. I also hope to see mandatory spay/neuter laws passed nationwide, and puppy mills and backyard breeders put to an end. I want to get back into playing my piano again, and then I want to learn to play the cello and guitar. I think that should keep me busy. Oh, and I have to take a trip to Scotland to meet my pen pal I've had since the 4th grade! Memorable Teachers: I remember Mr. Boyd because he was always making comments about Judy and me...he was pretty funny. And Mrs. Hartman was just an awesome teacher and woman. My parents (Charlie & Lettie-MAC) driving the cheerleaders to games and I had to find my own ride, Finding a ride to the game was always interesting because sometimes it meant going only one way (talk about find a way or make one-to get back home). Traveled the U.S. somewhat. Are you still awake? I had fun and even attended college (Maryland -GO Terps!) here and there, now and again! I don't think the college professors were ready for my ideas and they were not interested in learning anything from me. Future Plans: Retire..Retire...Retire. That was hard to say but someday it will happen. I'm watching my brothers to see how it affects them first (the jury is still out). I'm having fun watching Chuck's grandchildren grow up (They are at my house alot of the time-its parenting without the hassle)- five grandchildren - four play sports (the baby is a one year old). I will continue enjoying life and the competition from my brothers and friends (Playing Poker, Tiger Woods Golf, basketball, football and any other sport on XBox, and just bullsh----- (I refuse to grow up). I plan on Vegas trips to visit my retirement fund, Aspin and Oakland trips to visit friends, Hawaii for snuba diving (snorkel & scuba) and string bikinis, small reunions with past and present Peary friends. I may go back to school and give the professors one more chance to learn. Teach my grand nephews and nieces about their great grandfather Charlie (passed in 94) and sports.
