WEEKEND OF JUNE 24: An alumni-filled weekend with the multi-class get-together at Outta the Way Cafe Friday, the Class of 1980's reunion get-together on Friday at That's Amore (courtesy Gerry D'Ascoli) and main event at the B-CC Rescue Squad Rose Room on Saturday, and the first St. Jude's Alumni get-together, also Saturday, at Bennigans! About 80 alums met up and partied at Outta the Way June 24th - the Attendee List is linked from the MSO main page - www.pearyhs.org - and from the attendee list is a link to 35 photos from that evening. Alums from 1967-1985 were represented - some arriving from out-of-town. Thanks to Diane Arena Wilson and Kevin Brooks (both 1976) for organizing this event. Ken (KC) Keen, also from class of '80, will be helping me out aboard my 45' sportfishing boat "Graceland." The soldiers are currently staying or rehabilitating at Walter Reed Army Hospital. It is my plan to organize a multi-boat tournament in the fall of 2005 and see if I can get a bunch more vets out for a day of fun and maybe a little escape. The objective is to raise money for their families as well as pay a tournament purse. The event on July 9 is a precursor to the larger event this fall. I have partnered with a non-profit organization doing a lot of work at the hospital called Second Chance. They are in Gaithersburg and have a lot of events stacking up in the future." In Sam Belcher's woodshop class, if someone violated a class rule (it was usually for swearing), the class would line up and draw a metal screw out of a milk jug held up high and whoever drew the "brass" screw (the rest were steel), would administer a public paddling of the perpetrator. Very entertaining! Since High School: Moved out west; Colorado, Utah, back to Colorado, married in '84, had three great sons, divorced in '01, working for the U.S. Geological Survey (government worker, isn't that an oxymoron?), playing in R&B/Blues bands, playing sports, coaching baseball. Enjoying life. Future Plans: Finish up with the Feds and move on to the next chapter, I guess. ********** From: Lisa (Des Roches, '82) & Time Coleman ('76) Date: Thu, 2 Jun 2005 Subject: New address The Colemans are moving again as of June 10 to Waynesboro VA. That makes the 8th grandchild for me and my husband together. ********** From: JACKIE SAYLOR (1980) Date: Thu, 2 Jun 2005 SAubject: Update Occupation: PER/POST SETLEMENT PROCESSOR, Spouse: OSCAR SARAVIA (ASPHALT PAVER), Children: MELANIE 8, MARISSA 6, MARJORIE 18 MONTHS, MONTANA 6 MONTHS; Grandchildren: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- NOT IN THIS LIFETIME Memorable Incidents: I REMEMBER THAT I WAS A NOBODY IN PEARY HIGH SCHOOL I WAS NOT POPULAR AND I HAD NO "REAL" FRIENDS FROM PEARY. I WOULDN'T MIND SEEING A PHOTO ALBUM OF THE PEOPLE WHO DO SHOW UP AND WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE NOW FROM THEN. MAYBE WE COULD JUST SET UP A PHOTO ALBUM OF PICTURES ON THIS SITE FOR EACH YEAR AND HAVE PEOPLE SUBMIT THEIR THEN AND NOW PHOTOS.... IT WOULD SAVE TIME AND MONEY FROM HAVING A REUNION. THAT'S THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE GO TO THESE THINGS ANYWAY. I LOOK THE SAME, JUST FATTER, HAHAHAHA BUT IF YOU SAW ME ON THE STREET YOU'D SAY, "HEY AREN'T YOU JACKIE SAYLOR" MY FACE HASN'T CHANGED A ALL. SAME STUPID MOLE ON MY LIP...WELL ACUTALLY THERE IS ONLY ONE INSTEAD OF TWO NOW.... Since High School: THE FIRST 13 YEARS I PARTIED MY ASS OFF. I ACTUALLY HAVE REAL FRIENDS NOW, THAT I MET AFTER GRADUATING AND ARE STILL MY FRIENDS AND HAVE BEEN FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS NOW. IN MAY 1996 I QUIT SMOKING AND DRINKING BECAUSE I FOUND OUT I WAS FINALLY PREGNANT WITH MY FIRST CHILD, I STILL WENT TO THE BARS TO SHOOT POOL. OH I SHOOT POOL ON THE AMERICAN POOLPLAYERS ASSOCIATION AND AM RANKED A 4 WHICH IS HALF WAY TO THE TOP... I WOULD LOVE TO ACTUALLY GET A POOL TABLE IN MY BASEMENT AND BE ABLE TO PRACTICE EVERY DAY. OH I TOOK THIS YEAR OFF BECAUSE I HAVE 2 BABIES UNDER THE AGE OF 2 AND IT'S JUST TOO MUCH THIS YEAR PLUS I MOVED TO HAGERSTOWN AND I NEED TO FIND A NEW PLACE UP HERE TO SHOOT. I SOLD MY TOWNHOUSE IN GERMANTOWN (IN THE SLUMS OF GERMANTOWN) AT THE END OF LAST YEAR AND BOUGHT A BEAUTIFUL RANCHER WITH A BASEMENT ON ALMOST AN ACRE OF LAND IN HAGERSTOWN FOR 30,000 LESS THAN I SOLD THE TH FOR.... GOOD DEAL I THINK... BEAUTIFUL AREA, NO NEIGHBORS SITTING ON TOP OF YOU... I TELL YOU THE COUNTRY IS THE PLACE TO GO... THEN I FOUND A JOB UP HERE IN HAGERSTOWN AND I'VE BEEN LOVIN' LIFE EVER SINCE, OF COURSE I HATED MY BOSS IN GAITHERSBURG, AND I HAVEN'T HAD A BACK ACHE EVER SINCE I TOOK THIS JOB... HOW ODD, I GUESS STRESS IS ALOT OF WHERE YOUR PAIN COMES FROM... Future Plans: I AM STILL FAT, SO I HAVE DECIDED TO HAVE GASTRIC BYPASS OR LAPOBAND SURGERY, I AM GOING TO MY FIRST MEETING ON JUNE 13TH. WISH ME LUCK I AM SO TIRED OF BEING FAT AND WITH THESE SMALL BABIES I HAVE I NEED TO GET HEALTHY SO I CAN BE AROUND FOR THEM WHEN THEY GET OLDER. ANYONE WHO HAS HAD THE SURGERY IS MORE THAN WELCOME TO EMAIL ME AND LET ME KNOW WHAT TO EXCPECT, JUST REFERENCE BYPASS OR SOMETHING IN THE SUBJECT PART, BECAUSE IF I DON'T KNOW THE SENDER I USUALLY DELETE THE EMAILS. OTHER THAN THAT. FIXING UP MY HOUSE TO WHERE I WANT IT, IS ABOUT THE ONLY OTHER THING ON MY LIST OF "TO DO THINGS". Memorable Teacher: I WROTE THIS THE FIRST TIME, MRS. HALE - ENGLISH - FUNNY NO ONE EVER MENTIONS HER, BUT I THINK MY LOVE OF ENGLISH, AND READING, CAME FROM HER, EITHER THAT OR SHE JUST HAD THAT WAY OF TEACHING THAT MADE IT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND, AT LEAST I KNOW GRAMMAR AND WRITING BETTER, OF COURSE I'M NOT SURE IF I SPELLED GRAMMAR RIGHT OR NOT, BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT WITH AN E. Other alums I know about: MY SISTER JOYCE-73. YOU GOT THE REST OF MY SISTERS, JANICE-71 AND JERI-82. JODY-78 GRADUATED FROM WHEATON HIGH - CAUSE SHE WAS TO STUPID TO GO TO PEARY- JUST KIDDING JODY....YOU KNOW ME ALWAY PICKING ON YOU FOR GOING TO THAT STUPID SCHOOL.... AND BREAKING MY NOSE JUST BECAUSE PEARY BEAT YOUR SCHOOL... ********** From: Andrea Rosenberg Martinez (1978) Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 Subject: Update Occupation: Full time MOM, Children: Anaelise 13, Daniel 10 1/2, Benjamin 3 Future Plans: In March, I retook my Boards and to my great surprise, I passed! One GREAT Husband: Greg, Two FABULOUS daughters: Heather age 20 and Stephanie age 16 Since High School: (Pebble) Graduated from Maryland University with a degree in teaching, specifically, elementary art. I have continued to take classes to become a classroom teacher - just not there yet. I'm not in any big hurry. I'd rather be home with my family than at school putting up some lame bulletin board. I'll have time for that when the nest is empty. Worked for Montgomery County schools for 18 years. I took some time off to raise our girls. A job I never regret doing!!! Greg sold his business in the spring and has moved onto new and better things. His new job has allowed him more time to pursue his passion of cooking! Things I'm looking forward to: Picking up my teacher daughter, Stephanie (headed off to college in one more year). Parking my RV in daughter, Dr. Heather's driveway (she's in med school now), after another trip with Greg to yet another BBQ competition (where he'll win first place again)! It really is the best BBQ in the area. Hey, by the way... we're trying to get a part time catering/BBQ business going and looking for some commercial kitchen space in Mont. Co. to use as a "base of operation." This is needed so we can get our licence. 95% of the business is on-site so any access we'd need could be very limited and mostly on paper. If you would like to add really good BBQ to your menu we could work that out too. Got a pizza shop? BBQ pizza is a big seller in some areas. There are lots of possibilities here. If you can help us out let us know. If all goes as planned within the next ten years I'll be sipping cocktails, from atop my Winnebago, watching the family, I so loving raised, do all the work!!! I was on the graduation committee and I had fond memories of when the "class of 78 is best and great", but some of the things the parents on the committee wanted to do I thought were a bit extreme. At first they wanted to have it catered but it was too much so we had $ donated by local stores - thanks to moi and we had heavy goodies. His middle school - 6th grade is a new adventure - he looks forward to playing La Cross, Soccer and Swim And of course keep up the good grades! His swim team is swimming for The American Cancer Society the end of this month - June. The kids will have a tennis ball for every $10 they collect. These balls will be decorated with the names of people they know that have either passed from cancer or survived. David is already swimming with 11 balls! She passed quietly at 7:19 PM on June 9, 2005 in her home in Silver Spring, MD, surrounded by her family. While for the last few months she was weak in body, she remained strong in spirit until the end. For those of you who knew Mary Frances, you know that she was a beacon of strength for her entire family, and a light of compassion for those who needed a friendly face. Everyone whose life she touched knows what a remarkable woman she was, and she will truly be missed by all. The DeSando and Lichter families would like to thank you for all of your well wishes, prayers, friendly calls and smiles. Visits from friends and family over the last few weeks were important to us, but most important to her, letting her know that she has touched and changed so many lives over the course of her own.
