INTRODUCTION Greetings
Huskies, REUNIONS:
Here’s the latest we have on scheduled reunions this year.
Be sure that your contact information is up-to-date with your
respective class so that you don’t miss any snail-mailed information or
invitations - use the “Sign-up/Update” link from the menu on MSO -
this info goes to your class Online Coordinator and your reunion committee
(personal contact information is never posted online, sold to anyone, or
shared with anyone who just asks). Also
be sure to check your class’ “Missing Persons” listing (if one
exists) to lend the committees a hand in tracking people down.
Thanks! Classes
of 1963-1965 - Planning for 2004 Class
of 1973 - July 25-27, 2003 Class
of 1983 - August 23, 2003 - Holiday Inn Gaithersburg POM
REUNION (1975-1978):
May 31, 2003 - Contact Caroline Dennis Kelly at ckelly@hhsinsurance.com
or Cynde Robinson Burgess at cynde@erols.com CONDOLENCES:
To Jeremy Mathis (1968), whose dad passed away December 4th.
Paul Monsour’s (1968) mom passed away the same day.
(Jeremy’s older brother, also a Peary graduate, was instrumental
in getting the jukebox into the cafeteria in the mid 60s.) Jeff
Daniels (1970) passed away after a battle with cancer on January 23, 2003
at Shady Grove Hospital. The
obituary is posted at MSO.... http://www.pearyhs.org/text/70-daniels_jeff.html.
After his cancer was diagnosed in March 2002, he began a website, www.jeffsjournal.com,
that chronicled his illness. Jeff’s
words and closing words from friends may be viewed there.
Thank you to Sharon Marcus (1970) for providing the information to
MSO. GET
WELL SOON:
To Paul Oscar, the father of Victoria (1984) and Brad (1982), who had
shoulder surgery on February 13th, and to Dennis Sponholtz
(1966) as he continues with physical therapy. “MAMA
LAU”: Your MSO webmaster’s mom is doing okay so far as she
continues with her chemo therapy. She
asked me to thank you for all the e-mail inquiries, get-well cards, and
phone calls she has received over the past few months from Peary alums who
know her and got in touch... you
know who you are... those middle-of-the-night meals after my band jobs
(“Oasis”) and unloading three vans full of equipment or sneaking down
to Blues Alley on a school night, or a night of our usual partying, and
even way back when to Wheaton Woods and Parkland and playing chauffeur
when we weren’t old enough to drive yet to Shakey’s Pizza on the pike
or teen club dances (hi Mr. Shultz - so who swiped my “Peters”
jacket?... gee, at least I had my “Chucks” on), and concerts at Shady
Grove (the tent and the building - Jerry Lewis and George Carlin, et al),
Constitution Hall (Bread, Doobie Brothers, et al), Merriweather Post
(Carpenters, Jackson Browne, et al), and the Cap Center (Kiss, Aerosmith,
Elton John, Chicago, Beach Boys, Foghat, et al - way too many seen there
to recall)! Please
keep these alumni and their families in your thoughts & prayers. 1966
GIRLS LUNCHEON:
The last luncheon was held February 22 at Jaspers Restaurant in Germantown
(with the guys, and postponed from previous Saturday due to snow).
If you’re interested in joining them next time, watch for
announcements on MSO and/or contact Gale Senseman Privette at gale7@juno.com. The group shoots for monthly luncheons. HAPPY
BIRTHDAY (belated):
Dr. Dunn, who turned 80 in December! Tribute
- http://www.pearyhs.org/text/dunn.htm www.pearyhs.org:
Alums seem to love photos.... there’s a ton of them online at MSO and
linked from the Main Page, the “Events” area, individual Class
Information sections, the “People in the News” area, “Husky Pups”
for news about alumni children and grandchildren, “History and
Traditions,” the “Las Vegas Connection” with photos of alums who we
could catch-up with while visiting, and (sadly) the Memorial area. MSO
DONATION INFO:
https://id267.securedata.net/pearyhs/donation.htm
This is a secure page if you choose to support MSO using Visa or
Mastercard. Info about other
methods (e.g. checks/address) may be found there as well, but secure
online donations are the easiest. Thank
you for your consideration! There
is some talk currently going on about possibly organizing another MSO
fundraiser, similar to the one in organized and chaired by Melissa Davis
Munson (1982) in March of 1999, with the help, at that time, of Richard
Cauble (1974), Lynn Janashek Boyd (1975), Neal Pizzano (1976), Sandra
Kowalski (1986), Steve Steinberg (1983), and other volunteers. If
so, we’ll certainly keep you posted!
Photos and an attendee list from the event in 1999 may be viewed at
http://www.pearyhs.org/events/032099-fundraiser.htm THANKS:
To all of our Class Online Coordinators who collect the data for their
respective classes for safekeeping and reunion mailings, to Laura
Vandevender Kneib (1973) who is currently busily coding all of the
newsletters in the archives and maintains the Birthday Club pages, to Jim
Hardman (1976) who indexes the site and provides its search engine
function (on his server), to Neal Pizzano for maintaining and keeping
track of all the alumni bands and other public performances by alums and
venue information, the reunion committee members who keep us updated so we
can keep you informed, AND to all of you whom, without your updates and
articles, there would be nothing to compile this newsletter with! Bob
Lau, Editor/Webmaster P.S.
If you wish to reply or comment, please don’t quote this entire
newsletter back to us... create a new e-mail to blau@viawest.net.
If you have changes to your e-mail address or other contact
information, please use the links to the online forms at www.pearyhs.org
to ensure the info makes it to your respective graduating class for its
records. Please
keep us updated with the e-mail addresses, especially - each month with
the newsletter distribution, there are inevitably 80-100 “bounces” due
to invalid addresses or from those with e-mail accounts that have quota
limitations (if you have another account without limitations, PLEASE do
provide it, else keep your mailboxes cleared!).
Each of these bounces and failures is followed-up on individually,
which takes a lot of time (usually almost a full day), some of which could
be avoided if you remember to keep us up-to-date.
Thanks! | Back to the Newsletter Selections |
