Martha Coder <martha_coder@yahoo.com>
(1975) In
September I was laid off from a high tech company for the second time in
less than 2 years. I’ve been working as a telecommunications
analyst/manager since the late 1980s, and things sure have fallen apart in
that industry. Its ironic, since I was an unemployed geologist in the mid
1980s after the price of gold crashed. I thought that telecommunications
would be a bit more stable, which at least it was until recently. I’ve
been going to graduate school at night and last month graduated with a
Master’s of Education in Human Resource Development. For as long as
I’ve been working, it has always seemed to me that the people who do the
day-to-day work are the most undervalued resource. My final paper in
graduate school was on the relationship between corporate downsizing and
diminishing financial returns 2 - 3 years after the layoffs. So
now I’m trying to make a career change into Human Resources. Its
exciting and a little daunting to be looking now, when there are so many
other people who are also seeking work. I’m looking forward to working
more with people. From:

(1982) On
Sept. 28, 2002 my cousin Ron L. Vaccaro died at his Bowie home from an
aortic aneurism and had instantly passed.
He was 52. He is
survived by his wife Kathy, two daughters, and three young grandchildren.
Also, three sisters. James,
Ron’s younger brother, preceded him in death due to a car accident in
1974. Both parents of Ron and
James are deceased (John Vaccaro died in 1976 and Janice died in 1978). All are interred in Fort Lincoln. From:

Elway, Annie & Goku Memorable
Incidents: Sorry, I was a little preoccupied in HS. Since
High School: Growing up (just a little) Future
Plans: We were going to retire but with the economy in the “hopper”, I
started a new business instead. Memorable
Teachers: Mr. Hubbard because he was always there for us and made sure the
least of us felt important. Mrs.
Luck for her tireless good humor and relentless belief that we could
“get it” (Algebra). Which
I actually did... 25 years later. Well,
My husband and I recently made the BIG MOVE to Estes Park, CO!
After 20 years of .. wishin’ an’ hopin’ and thinkin’ &
prayin’... We are here. The
plan had been retirement but the reality is that we bought the MailBoxes,
Etc here. Through the lunacy
of the holiday shipping rush I often asked myself, “what’s a late
blooming English major doing trying to do, running a business?”. Suffice
it to say, I survived. Bruce is continuing to do his consulting and
entrepreneurial thing in Denver and elsewhere (leave the business to the
literati) Go figure. Looking
forward to Springtime in the Rockies (THINK SNOW) and hearing of anything
going on in this corner of the world that might be a pleasant reminder of
familiar times and places. You
guys that keep this site going are THE BEST!!!!! Very
best, Corinne From:

getting reacquainted with old friends.
I plan on doing a lot of boating activities here on the bay. It’s
great to be back in Maryland, however, I forgot about the snow. From:

(1970) After
being laid off as a Director for Cable & Wireless Global in July of
2001 as a result of the telecom/technology sector recession, I finally
took a position with The EMMES Corporation in Rockville as a Systems
Coordinator in January 2003. Eighteen
months of unemployment made me realize how tenuous life can be, and how
important friends who sustain us can be.
It is so nice to work again in the city where I was raised and
attended school. I am one of
a few “natives” that I meet in my day-to-day experience! From:

Occupation:
accounting & administration, Redskins fanatic. Spouse: Linda,

(1975) David
is our oldest and is going to Maryland.
He was recruited to the men’s soccer team, which this fall won
the ACC tournament and went all the way to the Final Four in Dallas.
They ended up ranked #2 in the country.
The team had no seniors and just a few juniors, so look for
Maryland soccer near the top of the rankings over the next few years. Katie is a freshman at Whitman, and in the crew program.
She’s the only freshman and one of only two women in the
weightlifting class, so I don’t worry about boys taking advantage of
her. I’m running the
Washington office of Public Strategies, a public affairs firm with
bipartisan roots in Texas politics. We
consult exclusively to private companies and associations, and develop and
run broad issues-based campaigns on behalf of our clients.
Most of my brothers still live on the area; Stephen is the
exception; he’s an architect in the San Francisco area.
Mark and Matthew still play soccer, and my brother Peter was named
last year as a co-coach of the year in Baltimore, where he teaches at the
high school level. Paul also
lives in Baltimore, and is an avid tri-athlete.
Jennifer—my wife and partner of 22 years— and I live in
Bethesda/Glen Echo, and love the river and canal.
Of course, these are just the highlights, and like every other
family on the planet, we’ve had our share of disappointments and
disasters ... But the cycle continues. Thanks
again for providing this web site; by my measure, it’s one of the most
sophisticated sites on the web, and certainly one of the most populated.
While I’ve never been one to linger, it’s nice to feel the sense of
connection to a time long ago. From:
Valerie Dalrymple Rollins <val3742@iximd.com>

Evan - 20, Kyle - 17 Since
High School: I graduated from law school, had 4 children, and decided that
I wanted to be at home with them....a job that is still taking up all of
my time! My oldest is on his way to law school, one is a junior in college
and I still have 2 at home. I’m very busy with my youngest, who is
involved in everything under the sun, pitches a softball at 40mph, and
just recorded her first CD! Future
Plans: Finish raising the kids, and then will become more actively
involved in several family businesses. Memorable

(1979) More
good news to report... I
received a letter today from the Harburg Foundation in New York.
You may recall they were sponsors of the Hands Off Washington
documentary I completed in 1998 and they have given $13,000 to date on the
God’s Perfect Hate film. Yip
Harburg was the famous lyricist who wrote all the lyrics to the Wizard of
Oz (Over the Rainbow!) and the depression song “Brother Can You Spare a
Dime, Finnians Rainbow, and many others (Yip was also Blacklisted). Anyway, the foundation is starting the Yip Harburg Political
Documentary Film Collection which is going to be housed at the Donnell
Media Center, the central film and video collection of the New York Public
Library and will consist of all of the films and videos the Yip Harburg
Foundation has supported (quite a list - I will show it to you when we do
meet). This collection will
be kept in an archivally climate-controlled storage space.
They asked me to include “We’re Here To Stay” and “God’s
Perfect Hate” (once completed). I
was moved to tears. I feel
like my life’s work will truly be a legacy for future generations to
come. That’s a wonderful life! It
would be way cool to have a list in the credits of Peary alums who have
contributed to a film that will hopefully be shown in every middle/high
school in the U.S. to help teach kids that hate crimes and hate incidents
are wrong and that we can help stop the hate if we educate. Here’s a
link to the page on my website that has all the latest info and where
people can give their 100% tax-deductible donations. http://lizardproductions/godsperfecthate.html Best
