INTRODUCTION

Happy New Year Huskies,

REUNIONS: It’s 2003 and some scheduled-reunion classes have set dates and begun planning!  Be sure that your contact information is up-to-date with the respective class so that you don’t miss any information and/or invitation mailings (goes for all alums, but especially if your class is slated for a reunion this year).  Use the “Sign-up/Update” link from the menu on MSO - the info goes to your class Online Coordinator and to your reunion committees.  Also be sure to check your class’s “Missing Persons” listing to lend a hand in tracking them down, and check your class’s Information Section in-between newsletters - any details will be posted there as soon as they’re known.  Mark your calendars:

Class of 1973 - July 25-27, 2003

Class of 1983 - Probable early August - specific dates TBA soon

Classes of 1963-1965 - Check online for 2004 Planning

POM REUNION (1975-1978): Date for the Pom Reunion, years ‘75-‘78, has been set for May 31, 2003.  You’ll be receiving further info in the mail.  If there’s anyone you’re in touch with and have her mailing address or e-mail address, please forward... or contact Caroline Dennis Kelly at ckelly@hhsinsurance.com or Cynde Robinson Burgess at cynde@erols.com.

PURPLE ROSE: The MD screening of Lisa Salsitz/Talmud aka Allie Raye’s (1981) was a blast and many Peary alums were in attendance.  There are many photos posted of that day at www.purplerose.8m.com - take a gander and see who was there!

HIDDEN HILLS: Hope many of you have caught an episode of this primetime NBC sitcom with 1982’s Paula Marshall as character Janine Barber.  It normally airs on Tuesdays at 9:30, but check your listings as networks tend to begin moving things around this time of year.  Note the “Rockville, MD” mention in her NBC bio, too:

CONDOLENCES: From Trisha Clahane Puglisi (1983) - “Alison Ross (1983) passed away very unexpectedly on December 27, 2002.  She is survived by two children (Sean 15 and Sydney 7), her parents, and her brother, T.K.  Ross (1980).  Services were held on December 29, 2002 in Hot Springs, Arkansas where she lived with her children and parents.  She was a great friend to many and will be missed.”  Trisha and Mary D’Amato are in the process of establishing a fund for Alison’s children.

Bob Putman’s (1975) grandmother, Ruth Coffelt, passed away on December 30th just 1.5 months short of her 106th birthday.  The funeral was held at Millian Memorial United Methodist Church on January 3, 2003.  A memorial fund has been established in care of Millian Memorial United Methodist Church 13016 Parkland Dr., Rockville, MD 20853

Bernard Boteler, the 97-year-old father of J. Stanton Boteler (Staff, 1973-81), passed-away peacefully in Olney, MD Thursday January 2, 2003.

In addition to his four children, “Bernie” is survived by 17 grandkids, 34 great-grandchildren, and two great great grandsons.  Services were held at St. Patrick’s Church with interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on January 6, 2003.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s School Campaign Fund, 4401 Norbeck Rd., Rockville, MD 20853.  Please sign the Legacy (Washington Post) Guestbook (which will only remain online until February 3rd, unless someone sponsors the page) at: http://www.legacy.com/Link.asp?Id=GB00696220X

From Dede Lazo Corkran (1980): “I am writing to ask prayers for my brother, Phil (‘84). His 8 year old daughter, Lindsay Grace, died 1/18 in a horrific automobile accident on I-70 in Howard County, Maryland.  No other family members were in the vehicle. They are, of course, distraught but they are heavily involved in, and getting much support from, their church. Our family is also still living in the area and are helping as much as possible. My parents still live in the Aspen Hill area too, although my father is in ill health.”

Please keep these alumni and their families in your thoughts & prayers.

1966 GIRLS HOLIDAY LUNCHEON: The last luncheon was held January 11 at O’Donnell’s Restaurant in Gaithersburg.  If you’re interested in joining them next time, watch for announcements on MSO and/or contact Gale Senseman Privette at gale7@juno.com

MILITARY CARE PACKAGES: Skip Fitzgerald (1976) and Karen Wilson FitzGerald (1981) have generously offered to send “care packages” to the children of Peary alums who are currently overseas serving our nation.... this is not limited to immediate families of Peary alumni, i.e. if you have a “next-generation” relative (nephew, niece, for example) overseas serving with our armed forces, please contact Skip at fitzskjr@msn.com.

To Colonel Dennis Judge (1972) USMC in Kuwait, Captain Dave Prothero (1974) aboard the USS Mount Whitney, Commander Chris Perlick (1975), and to all of our Peary alumni military personnel and government employees, be safe and THANK YOU.  Please keep us posted as you can.

MSO DONATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1) www.pearyhs.org, 2) Click on “Donations” Directly: https://id267.securedata.net/pearyhs/donation.htm  This is a secure online page for Visa/MC donation submissions.  Snail mail and fax instructions are also posted.

The good news is that this 6.5-year-old project has kept Peary alums in-touch (even wed some!), posted reunion info and alumni news and photos, and continues to... and is set until early summer of this year.  The unfortunate news is that we wish we could report that MSO has received enough financial support to last through 2010 (we know, this ain’t gonna happen).  With your help, however, we hope we won’t be reporting that it’s “lights out” or “it’s the last monthly newsletter” or your browsing to www.pearyhs.org results in “page not found.”  If you ever once thought in these 6 years “I gotta get around to that,” make that resolution today, and hopefully we can keep things going, at least on a year-to-year status.  It is rough times for all and this is understandable, but your consideration is greatly appreciated.  To those individuals and groups/classes who already have, your generous support is the only reason people are reading this now - thank you!  Ya ever wonder how your local PBS station feels?  We’re feeling the same thing.  Maybe one day MSO won’t have to make these pleas so often - let’s hope!

Stats: There are currently 3,961 student and staff alumni listed on MSO: http://www.pearyhs.org/phslist.htm - this accounts for approximately 39% of all who passed-through those hallways from 1960-1986 - we got a ways to go.

To-dos: More photos from Suds & Sun, 76rs informal retreat at Dick Thompson’s place, Brent Runnels’ (1976) new publicity shots, and Byron Patterson’s (1984) White House photos.  (Gee, if there’s more, please shoot us a reminder.... and thanks for your patience!)

Happy Valentines Day (already?).... and here’s to warmer temps soon for most of you (HA)!  Okay, on to this month’s alumni updates...
