I found out about the website from my sister - Pebble Prothero.
Occupation: Director, Spouse: Howard, Children: Son Brian - 21, Daughter
Lindsey - 16
Memorable Incidents: I will never, ever forget when Josef (I can't
believe I forgot his last name!) jumped out the window of Ms. Luck's
classroom when we had a substitute teacher. I think that was my most
memorable high school experience.
Since High School: Got married at 19 to my high school sweetheart and
will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in 2003. Had two wonderful
children, who excel at everything they do. My son will graduate from
UMBC in May and plans to teach on the high school level. My daughter is
a junior in high school and will probably major in English in college
(she is a fabulous writer, who has actually already been published!)
Have been working for Montgomery County Government for 26 years; first
in the Office of Consumer Affairs where I worked my way up to
Investigator and then on to the Police Department, where I have been
Director of the False Alarm Reduction Section since 1993. (If you have
an alarm system, some of you may have gotten a letter from me, which is
not necessarily a good thing!)
Future Plans: I hope to retire sometime in the next 10 years and then
relax, relax, relax - probably move to where it snows a lot, read
numerous books (I really want to get back into the classics, which I
don't have time for now), enjoy my kids and their families and generally
do nothing.
Memorable Teacher: Mrs. Zimmerman, without a doubt, had the most
influence on my life after high school. She was a wonderful teacher,
taught all of her business students a great work ethic, and generally
molded us into successful adults.

Hello, everyone! Has anyone started planning a reunion for the class of
1983 yet? It seems like just yesterday I began my journals in Mrs.
Gordy's English class and now I am on my 185th book. Needless to say,
making and exhibiting art has been keeping me busy.
We are already planning the 2003 SFLGBT Pride event and I am hard at
work on the next Radical Faerie Freedom Village. You can check out
information about past villages or help plan this one by going to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FaerieFreedomVillage/ . The village is
open to everyone and is a lot of fun. If you haven't seen our parade
live then get off the couch and quit with that TV. It's so much more
fun in person. And if you don't like our parade come see it anyway--
you can't help but have fun no matter how hard you try-- honest.
Anyhoo, to keep myself treading water in the current economy, I am
currently a Paraprofessional Substutute-- Teacher's Aide. I get to work
with the kids that make everyone else quit and I love it. It's sad to
see bright minds impaired due to the parent's substance abuse, but I do
what I can to teach them and to open them up to possibilities.
I am continuing to send art around the world through the postal system
and am in contact with about one hundred artists at any given time. I
think a few pieces have ended up in some museum collections, but the
fame hasn't reached me yet. I am getting more involved with the
development of social policies, although I have no interest in politics
per se.
I hope we can pull off a twenty-year reunion this year. It would be
good
to see everybody and compare notes. I was actually in Maryland for my
parents' 40th wedding anniversary while the sniper was at large. I'm
glad that y'all are OK and have been doing rituals for those who didn't
make it.
Anyhoo-- I hope everyone has a great and productive 2003. Take care and
have fun--
Love Daniel aka Jokie

How I found out about the website? Always known about it, I just
stopped
visiting for awhile. Occupation: Police Lieutenant, Spouse: Paula,
Children: Samantha 16, Stephanie 11
Memorable Incidents: The time the plane landed on the lower field. 3
hour lunches in my senior year. The time the guy decided to settle a
dispute with a shotgun in the cafeteria.
Since High School: I graduated college in '77 and started my career in
law enforcement in 1978. I worked as a police officer in Washington DC
until January of '81 when I joined the Montgomery County Police
Department. I have had a fun career, having worked all over the county.
I spent 10 years as a sergeant in the Wheaton-Glenmont District in the
old stomping grounds until I broke down after 10 years and took the LT
test. Now I am back where I started in downtown Silver Spring. I am
still recovering from the long hours worked in October because of the
sniper. Those of us from the neighborhood took it a little more
personal.
I made one big mistake in my life (lots of little ones!) but divorced
her and have been married for 17 years to the same woman, Paula (Cool-
that's really her maiden name). She's a Sherwood graduate, so don't hold
it against me. We have two daughters, the first of which will be driving
her car anyday now. They are both talented musically, playing in their
respective school bands. I couldn't be more proud of both of them. I am
just glad that their ages are just far enough apart to keep only one
teenager in the house at a time.
Future Plans: Work until it is no longer fun, retire and enjoy life. I
will probably teach after my retirement from the PD. Watch my daughters
continue to grow and dance at their weddings, after that its icing on
the cake.
Memorable Teachers: I remember Mr Jacobs who bored me to death with the
"cosine of theta is equal to..." one too many times. I fell
asleep in
the back of his class so often he moved me to the front- where I
continued to check my eyelids for leaks. He told me I wouldn't make it
through one semester at college. That was a challenge and I proved him
wrong. I remember driver's ed with Mr Nowrocki. He taught PE to my
oldest when she was in middle school and my youngest will most likely
get him in the next year or two left at Baker. I remember Mr Zorb
chewing me out for leaving school for 3 hour lunches. Of course it was
my last three weeks before graduation when he found out.

Grandchildren: YIKES!
Memorable Incidents: Being allowed to go into the Senior Court, at
last.
Walking home from school on the Black Path. Walking to school in the
dark that one year they messed around with Daylight Saving Time. Hearing
Mr. Gibb read Of Mice and Men--and being riveted by the length of his
fingernails. Mr. Clarke's 5-point quizzes, plus the Bonus Question. Not
figuring out until I was an adult that there was in fact no historical
event
called the Defenestration at Ghent. Working with Jan Miller on our senior
class history. Going to the prom with Kirby Huget; eating dinner at La
Rive
Gauche beforehand. The custodian, Mr. Brown. Yikes.
Since High School: Got an M.A. from University of Maryland (hey, up
here
in CT, they consider it a great school!) in English; moved to
Connecticut, married Kirby Huget in 1985, worked as a p.r. person for
two terrific museums, including the Mark Twain House in Hartford; had
not one but two beautiful children; finally allowed myself to pursue my
dream of being a freelance writer, which lets me do what I love most
while being home for my kids. I now write for The Washington
Post--mostly for the health section, of all things, but also for
KidsPost and travel, once in a while. My by-line is Jennifer Huget. I
also was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in April 2001. Doing fine so
far, knock on wood. Would love to hear from other Pearyites who have
MS. Though I hope, for your sake, there aren't many of you!
Future Plans: Hang out with Kirby and the kids; read as many books as I
can, maybe write, well maybe not THE great American novel, but a
passable one that somebody will be willing to publish. Squeeze as much
living as possible into every day, and appreciate all my blessings.
Memorable Teachers: I just loved Mrs. Rosen, who was such a good
English
teacher. And of course the great Mr. Hopkins. We called him "The
Hopper." He was so nice, and so funny. And Miss Tigani was nice, too,
though I never had her as a teacher myself. Does anybody else remember
Vicki Scheidemann? She taught a dance class. She was very cool. And I
can't think of her name (I guess I can't say I remember her
"best," can
I?), but I really liked that female chemistry teacher we had in like
11th grade. What was her name??? I really liked Mr. Boyd, too.
Finally, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this way, but there was
nobody like Mr. Hill. He showed such great respect for us, and with such
good grace and humor. Oh, and Mr. Nawrocki, making us drive him to
Jerry's Sub shops during driver's ed so he could run in and get his
lunch....
I hope you all know how lucky we are to have Peary as our common
heritage and this great community of alumni to share memories with. I
don't think it's very common to have such an active and well-connected
high-school alumni group--thank you to all who put so much effort into
it!

using this very Midnight Sun Online as a research reference for clues.
Does anyone remember the "rock battles" that took place after
lunch
during our first weeks in school? These were serious stone throwing
battles in the woods at the end of the Drivers Ed course. These
skirmishes consisted of some of the Rowdies and guys like, Jim Lamb,
Scott Turner, Kurt Stine, Gary Wilcox. There must have been 15 to 20
guys in total in these battles.
Anyway, I got whacked in the forehead pretty good by a potato sized
rock! I lived, no dain bramage! And actually went to 5th period class
after lunch. BUT I ALWAYS WONDERED WHO THREW THAT ROCK. DOES ANYONE KNOW
(OR REMEMBER) ANYTHING ABOUT THAT? I'm sure that whoever threw it knew
it was a HIT.
After that incident, the battles seized. If you guys are out there,
jump
start those old corroded synapses and blast through all the Schlitz
sludge surrounding those axons and try to recall. Someone please fess
up. This is just for pure curiosity. If you know anything, please write.

Subject: My novel / screenplay
So, I'm busily working on my novel / screenplay. They say you can't
write both at once, but why listen to them?
It's a redemptive love story. Our hero learns to go after the girls who
actually like him. He does this by the time he graduates high school.
As opposed to twenty years later.
As our hero will be 14 years old at story's opening, think of it as
"Beavis and Butthead matriculate, magna cum laude."
I'm interested in anyone's memories of what it was like in high school
in the mid '70s in suburbia, but I'm particularly interested in the
memories of girls. What was it like to have a crush on a guy who paid
no interest? What about the guys who did? How did you manage them?
What were your major concerns? How did you feel the clash between the
'50s culture you were born into and the burgeoning new possibilities for
women? What music did you listen to? Feel free to give deep
background, i.e. how your childhood influenced who you became in high
school and just after.
My goal is to create credible female characters, so your input will be
greatly appreciated.
