IN MEMORIAM: June 30 marks the 30-year anniversary of the death of 1973 alumnus, John Hepburn, who died in a tragic accident in Ocean City. Peary friends Mike Quigley, Roger Imhoff, John Posniewski, and Paul Faupel were with him when he died. It was also John's 18th birthday. THANK YOU: To those 500 (approx) classmates listed on our "sponsor" page for their donations and continued support over the years: http://www.pearyhs.org/sponsors.htm. We hope to hear soon from the 3,500 alums that we haven't heard from yet as the MSO approaches its 7-year mark! For those who "have been meaning to" or "I keep forgetting," a recurring/automated pledge process is currently in-the-works - MSO will remember FOR you if you select this option - this will be implemented in the next day or so. To check on this option or to make a one-time donation to this project immediately, please visit: https://id267.securedata.net/pearyhs/donation.htm ... thanks in-advance for your consideraton! Please also note, that donations via Visa/Mastercard will appear on your statements as a transaction from "Netvision Talent - Las Vegas." This is my company merchant account that is utilized for the convenience of Peary alums donating online on a secure site via credit/debit card. This is noted on the form and on your receipts that MSO sends to acknowledge your support. Several donators have not read this or forgot how it will appear, resulting in hours of paperwork, follow-up, and "chargeback" fees - meaning your donations do NOT go through, MSO is billed for the amount (a loss), PLUS the chargeback administrative fees. Please try to remember this - thanks! Have a safe and happy Fourth of July! Most days I still love it. I managed another degree along the way, a Doctor of Ministy, which is a professional degree for those who are more practicioners than academics. I'm still using the music whenever possible. I sing solos whenever they'll let me and with the choir and also direct the youth choir and an occasional play. I finally got married in 96 to a great guy, Dick, who happens to be Pam Forder's uncle. I've traveled quite a bit, both before and since getting married. Ganey (1971) Date: Thu, 29 May 2003 Subject: All these years It's hard to imagine that it has been 33 years since high school. You wake up one day, look in the mirror, and realize that all these years have gone by, and wonder how they went by so fast. But that is not to say that there are regrets. Boy, there have been some great times in between then and now. Speaking of now, I am on the shores of Lake Michigan, watching the sun sink into the lake after another fabulous day on Michigan^Òs west coast. I moved here ten years ago, and it has been fantastic. Since I left high school I have lived all over this country, in eleven different states (can^Òt keep a job), and this is by far the best of the rest. Tough winters, but those that know me know that I am a winter person. Winter in the north means snow, and snow means skiing, so get the boards out and let's go. Any day you can wet your boards is better than any day you can't. And while Michigan doesn't have big hills, the hills we have all point south. Look out, coming through! We put up with those winters to get to our summers. Cool, dry days, and comfortable nights. And everything centers off of the lake. Swimming, fishing, boating, you name it. No crowds, no traffic, no crime, low taxes, Notre Dame football and basketball games, and great people. What more could you ask for. As I said, since high school I have traveled all over the country, mostly for work. I consulted in the electrical utility industry for 15 years before settling down with one company in Michigan. I started college after high school at the University of Arizona, but finished at Syracuse (Go Orange ^Ö did I mention that we are the reigning Men^Òs Basketball National Champions? Well, if I haven^Òt mentioned it yet, I probably will soon). I got married, got divorced, and in the middle raised an incredible young woman as my daughter. Sarah will be 24 this year, and is my pride and joy. Most memorable incident from high school? Who remembers high school? I killed way too many brain cells to have any memories. Heck, I cannot even remember names when I attend the reunions. Brian Baker and Pat Sweeney have to keep me from embarrassing myself because of my poor memory. But I do remember the day as seniors we all skipped and walked up to the School Board in Rockville. I don^Òt remember why we walked to the school board, but I do remember doing it. And I remember getting a ride back to school in someone^Òs very crowed car. We packed it full of students, and most of us even went back to class. I remember that the most beautiful girl in the junior class was sitting on my lap. Wow, to be young again. If she remembers who she is, drop me a line. If not, I still have my memory. Enough for now, maybe more later. There is a Caribbean sailing trip later this year, I may write after that. And I am trying to find someone that wants to take a raft down the Colorado through the Canyon with me. All of my friends want to take vacations that include room service and fresh towels. How boring! Still tring to write the great american novel, but I want to write it in a foreign country, maybe in a foreign language. Still trying to get 25 out of 24. Still dreaming, and despite all these years, still young. ********** From: Elizabeth A. Most of you spent your childhood together and I moved every 2 - 2 1/2 yrs-I went to 11 different schools. The good side to that was I had to learn to make friends fast and surrounded myself with a diverse group. Being a single parent.... (15 yrs now) (holy crap!)....my life has evolved around my two daughters. Well my eldest daughter Stacie graduates June 5th from Damascus HS. She wants to be an Officer in our Military...Intelligence and Homeland Security, she is an NJROTC cadet-received awards beyond anyone's expectations....she also was our Maryland State Girls Senator and attended Girls Nation last summer... received a Congressional Nomination to West Point. But, she is going to The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, Charleston, 1900 students (100 women). I am so very proud of her ! The tuition $26,000 per yr is above my means and freshman don't receive much in way of grants....but we did receive some....so I need to sell my house to pay for tuition and decided since I have to move...I'll move to South Carolina and get in-state tuition next year! So me and Sabrina (11 yrs) are moving to The Grand Strand area of South Carolina...near the beach, like I have always wanted...houses are half the price as up here...so after 29 years....I am movin' on! It's beautiful down there and I hope it is a whole new beginning for me! Maybe I'll have time to get in shape and maybe even start dating again...who knows!? I am really looking forward to the change, but I will keep in touch through the page...when it comes time to start work on the 30th reunion...I'll be here... Any former band members still in the DC area who want to touch base with some old friends are welcome to stop by the Berman Academy (the old Peary building) on Monday evenings. More information may be found on the band's website, macmillanpb.org. ********** From: Kathleen Niepsey (1968) Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 Subject: Suds & Sun 2003 Information Hi everyone, By popular demand, many calls and e-mails, once again The Challenge is on. Saturday, September 27th is the 2nd annual Suds & Sun Reunion for Peary High School held at Seacrets, Jamica USA on 49th St. & the Bay in Ocean City, MD. Last year we had a blast. The greatest group of alumni came in from every where across the US. For those of you who could not make it this year will be even better. The Class of 1971 had the biggest turn out with the Class of '68 one person off. You missed the ones who didn't show and great surprises on the ones who did. Many laughs, memories and happened and will continue this year. Come make a memory with us. Hopefully this year more of you will show up. It's a great time, no commitment to make, everyone pays their own bill, no cover before 5 p.m., happy hour drink prices, great food, live music on the beach, dancing and you leave whenever you want. Most of us either closed Seacrets or the Ocean Club across the street. Hotel prices are down for the season and the kids are back in school. What more could you ask for? Note: no one under 21 years of age is allowed on the beach where the reunion will be gathering There will be a 50/50 drawing and donations collected to keep us connected through MSO, AND this year we will have a surprise for the winning class with the most alumni. Another head count will be taken for the class with the most alumni to show up. If you have never been to Seacrets you can go to their website www.Seacrets.com, and check out our pictures from last year on our MSO website. Take care, Kathleen, Paul, Richard Trott, and Richard Waalkes ********** From: Robin Rosenberg Aiscowitz (1979) Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 Subject: Miscellaneous Hello alums..hope everyone is enjoying the summer. I have been in touch with Gay Laurienzo San Severino and she has informed me that her ninth child which is due August 15th is a BOY. He will be named John Paul Salvatore. John Paul's birth will make the score 6-3 in favor of the boys and Gay will have her baseball team now. This pregnancy has been uneventful and she is just enjoying the quiet before this baby is born yet I do not understand how you can say a house is quiet with 8 kids, a husband and 2 dogs! Our dad is doing well following his April surgery and was able to attend some Yankee games in New York. I, personally am looking forward to the upcoming Redskins season. Where I live in New Jersey (Atlantic City) everyone has been crazed by the NJ Devils and NJ Nets fans even though they represent 'North Jersey', but I say Jersey is Jersey. We will be going to the beach this season once the rain goes away. Everyone have a great summer and don't forget the sunscreen. ********** From: Joe Tralongo (1981) Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 Subject: Me Well, I've been watching the MSO newsletter for a few years now, and I thought it time to put in my two cents. I'm currently living in San Diego with my partner of 12 years, Mark Sembach; we just bought a second home in Missoula Montana where we will soon be escaping big city life---at least in the summer. After graduating from Peary, I drifted a bit trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do. I graduated from the U of M, went to work in the U.S. Senate for a brief time and then moved to San Diego where I met Mark. I am currently the automotive writer for Kelley Blue Book's Website, which means I get to test-drive all the cars I want; for those who remember me, you know it's the perfect job. I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly admit to Rob Ulisny that indeed, the 66 Corvette is a far better car than the Dodge Mirada (hey, I was young and foolish.)There, that weight is finally off my chest..LOL. I have fond memories of Mr. Clark, Ms. Jeweler, Mr. Botler and of course, Mr. Gardner. The best times I remember were being on stage with Ken, Laura, Skip, Andy, Allen, Debbie, Bobby, Dave, Tim and the unforgettable Usila Betty (aka Angie Lindsy). I also have fond memories of my time working on the yearbook with Bonnie, June, Beth and Randy. (Beth hated me, but I "respected her authority," as Eric Cartman would say.) My life is very different now, I don't even know if I could come back as I'm not the same person most people thought I was in 1981---but then again, it^Òs been a long time away from home, family and friends and I must admit I do miss Mrs. Torrey^Òs smiling face! So maybe I^Òll make the 25th reunion and catch up with those who^Òd care to. That's about it from here. It^Òs nice to see everyone is doing well. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of class members who have passed from this earth far too soon, especially Bruce and John. It is the only way most of us can keep track of old classmates and friends we made in school. Also, this is June... can you remember where you were on a certain day in June 1965? I can I graduated on June 16, 1965 can remember that day because on June 26, 1965 I started my first job with Western Union and worked with them for 22 years (also worked with my mother). My sister gave birth to a set of twins on July 1, 1965 oh what a joy - they are also Peary graduates, Patty Toler and Becki Toler Clements 1983. June always brings back memories of graduating and leaving the carefree life behind and getting down to the real life, so remember if we really want to keep track of each other we need to support the MSO so our legacy can keep going especially for the ones who graduated behind us. Have a good summer and remember family is precious. Oh by the way Donna is doing real well after her hip surgery in April. She is now walking for exercise but not driving yet (her choice) she doesn't feel quite able to do so. I play chauffer and take her where she wants to go. Everyone have a nice summer and take care.
