I found out about the website from friends & family.

Occupation: Finance Director/Controller, Spouse: Maria

Memorable Incidents: the football games, all the different characters, too many shenanigans to mention...

Since High School: School, work & play, traveled to Dallas in 1996 and finally got married!

Future Plans: Raise some children, continue to work and play.  Maybe more school and/or a new hobby.

Memorable Teacher: Ms. Donna Dawson, homeroom teacher.  She was a hottie.

I found out about the website through word of mouth.

Occupation: Consulting Teacher, MCPS.  Spouse: Mike McIntyre, Children: Tommy - 18, Craig - 16

Memorable Incidents: All the wonderful friendships made throughout my HS years!; Gymnastic meets and annual shows; cheerleading with all the laughs, games, and the county competition our senior year when we took 3 out of the 5 first place trophies!;  Locking the football team and coaches in behind the outside gym door and the main gate on Friday film night(whoops!  Now you know.....); Homecomings; Prom; Graduation and “Beach Week”

Since High School: Went to Towson State University and got my degree in Education.  Taught 2 years in MCPS.  Got married and had 2 boys.  Stayed home with children for 7 years while teaching aerobics and Adult Education for MCPS at night.  Returned to teaching, this time with FCPS for 9 years and obtained my Masters Degree.  Now working as a Consulting Teacher with MCPS.  Currently celebrating my oldest son’s graduation from HS!

Future Plans: Work, work, work to somehow pay for both my sons’ college tuitions for the next 8 years!  And then if we have any money left, would love to travel!

Memorable Teacher: Mrs. Whitaker (“WHIT”) for realizing I was a much better gymnast than a pupil of History.  She was inspiring to us all, she laughed a lot, and helped us to win the county championship!  Remember the trip she took us on to New York for the “Rythmic Gymastics” exhibition?  “WHIT” swore it would some day be an Olympic sport and we all rolled our eyes and laughed......can’t believe she’s right and can’t believe how much I enjoy viewing this sport now!

Other alums I know about? Mara Berzins (Paza) has moved back into the area.

Just want to thank all the members of the Alumni Committee who have worked so hard to ensure that the class of 1977 has had wonderful reunions over the years!  Thanks to all who have participated!

I apologize to all of my old classmates who I did not keep in touch with this past year.  Unfortunately my mother was diagnosed with kidney cancer last spring and my family was extremely busy taking care of and spending time with her.  It was a very difficult battle for her, and she died on May 24th.  As soon as things calm down somewhat, I will try to get in touch with you all again.  Thanks for all of your prayers....

Jeanne

Subject:  Purple Rose

Hi. I wanted to share some news with everyone.  A few years ago I was going to make my short film, “Purple Rose,” but as luck would have it, it wasn’t meant to be. For the past month, I have been producing my short film. Finally! It’s finally happening and we are shooting in a small town in Cuyama, CA. I’m very grateful and very, very lucky. It’s been an amazing experience, although I’m somewhat sleep deprived.  The reason we are shooting now is because “Minority Report” comes out June 21st and I wanted to have a film done by then.  I am definitely in the film and you won’t have any trouble seeing me, much less hearing me!

(I’m a lunatic in the movie.) Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone that believed in me and supporting me in making my short film.  I’ll be home to Rockville in the fall/winter sometime and we’ll have a screening.  I’ll extend invitations to anyone that would like to come watch.  The movie website is being updated all the time, but the URL is http://www.purplerose.8m.com and mine is www.allieraye.com

Till next time - happy Summer.

I found out about the website while searching for an alumnus.

Occupation: Biologist/Educator, Spouse: Rise, Children: Eliana 13, Tzippora 11, Avigyle 7

Memorable Incidents: My sister, Sherry (class of ‘72) was sent home by the Principal, Dr. Dunn, for wearing pants on a cold and snowy winter day. I was only in junior high school then...How things changed. I recall several of the school plays - “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” and “Billy Budd” as being extremely professional. I was on a county champion mile relay team in 1974 - I wish I could remember with whom I shared that honor...Jay Woods (class of ‘74) was on it, as was Ron Gaskins of my year. There was one other...

Since High School: I graduated in Art from U. of Md. in 1979, worked for a short time as an illustrator at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. I returned to school at GW to get a Ph.D. in Anatomy & Cell Biology in 1985. During that time I married and we moved to Rochester, N.Y. in 1985 so that I could do a postdoc in Neurobiology and Rise (a graduate of Bowie H.S., class of ‘76) could do some consulting in the travel industry there. We moved to southern Israel in 1987 where I took up a position on the faculty of medicine at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel’s youngest and smallest university (it has since grown to 12,000 undergrad students).

In 1988 our first child, Eliana was born at Soroka Hospital and 2 years later Tzippora joined her. The beginning of the gulf war in january 1991 coincided with the end of my basic training in the IDF. I was doing an artillery course in the Golan Heights at the time the U.S.-led coalition began bombing Iraq. I got to see a few of the scuds that went over us on the way towards Haifa, and found the experience of a possible chemical missile attack pretty horrific. The worst was at home the times I had a day or two off, when we had to get the two tots into gas masks and stay in our sealed room until the all clear signal came. I continued to do reserve duty (about a month a year) until 1999 when the IDF decided it could go on without me.

My third daughter, Avigyle, was born in 1995. The next year we were in the States for sabbatical at GW. We lived in Silver Spring and had a terrific and nostalgic year.

Since then I’ve continued to do research on the brain and teach Anatomy to medical students. We love living in Beer Sheva (the city of Abraham and Isaac - it’s in the Bible!) and have students over for Shabbat dinner (Friday night for those who don’t know) most every week.

Future Plans: We hope to take another sabbatical in the next 2-3 years, possibly in California.

Memorable Teacher: Mr. Gibbs - eccentric and sarcastic, two traits that made him memorable but also devoted.

Thanks for the opportunity to dip into my distant past.

I wish I wasn’t writing with this sort of news, but as we get older these kinds of situations will be happening to more of us.

On Saturday, June 1, my mother, Joanne Roseman, suffered a stroke. She is presently being treated in the “acute care rehab” section of Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel, MD.

Subject:                AWAITING

Recently, the CD “A Long Mile” by a group called AWAITING was released.  The band consists of Peary alums including Joe Ricker (1979), Rick Ricker (1975), Donald Barry (1979) and features a host of special guests including the last recorded guitar track by John Lejnar (1979) before his death last year.  The music was written, with the exception of My Happy Home, by Joe Ricker and represents a dedication to his life long love for music and a tribute to friends and family.  The song “My Happy Home” was written and performed by Stephen Lejnar for John and was played at his funeral.  One reviewer said “The beautiful three and four part harmonies create a rich texture throughout the album, artfully enjoying upbeat rhythms in a celebration of life and friendship.”

This CD is now available for sale.  If you are interested in obtaining a copy send an email to jmlej@yahoo.com.
