(1964) Attention
Classes of 63, 64 & 65 (and any other interested classes) – It is
only 2 years until the class of 64’s 40th. After the reunion
in 2000, many of you indicated you would like to have a 40th
reunion. We need someone to volunteer to plan it and it’s not too early
to get started on that. If anyone would be willing to chair a 40th
reunion or to serve on a committee, now is the time to let us know.
Eileen Brown Carter, Candy Beck Burch and I are willing to help out
but we are unable to take the lead on this one.
We already have one volunteer who would be willing to put together
a booklet, pictures, layout, etc. and that is half the work. We need
someone (or a group of people) who would decide where to have it, make
arrangements for the place, food, etc. and the mailings to the class or
classes involved. We now have addresses for most of the people in the
classes that combined for a reunion in 2000 and it’s not a very
difficult job, if you have a PC, to prepare a mass mailing.
Eileen, Candy and I have lots of information and materials from the
last reunion so this one will be a lot easier.
We can give you electronic copies of the mailings to use as
samples, the address lists, lots of info from various hotels and places
that we looked at, sample budgets, etc. Please let me know if you are
willing to work on a reunion. If
no one steps forward, then it isn’t going to happen. From:

(1982) I
found out about the website from Fellow Alumni. Memorable
Incidents: Wearing a light blue ruffled tux to senior prom-ugh! Good for a few laughs looking back. Really enjoyed being a part of the track and cross-country
teams. Since
High School: Graduated from James Madison University in 1986 and have
worked in the area since then. Got
married in 1990 to my wife, Ronda, who I met through mutual friends from
JMU. We have two wonderful
little boys, Dain who is 5, and Tyler, who is 3.
They are already involved in the usual assortment of activities:
karate, tee ball, gymnastics that keep everyone busy. When not engaged in
family activities or work, I enjoy running, golf and spending time with
friends and family. Future
Plans: Pursuing MBA at U-MD Memorable
Teacher: Mr. Clark, of course, for his raucous and interesting approach to
history. From:
Linda Tyson Font <lmfont@aol.com>
(1968) A
presentation was made at the Melvin J Berman Hebrew Academy on Mar 22 when
Terry Brooks (1969) and I went to present them with a copy of “Of Mice
and Men by John Steinbeck as read by Vincent G Gibbs”.
They were very gracious in accepting our donation on behalf of the
REPHSAA. In the photo I am
presenting the recording to the principal of the upper school, Ms. Dena
Levine. Also there was Mr.
Daniel Virgilio, the head of the English Department, who arranged the
opportunity for Terry and I to make this presentation to them and a group
of students. Both Ms. Levine
and Mr. Virgilio expressed gratitude for us thinking of them and for
sharing this academic legacy from Peary High School.
And the students thought it was neat that Terry had grown up with
one of Melvin J Berman’s kids! So,
now this little project is officially over.
A big Thank You again to Mr. Gibbs for his generous cooperation and
without whom this treasure would not exist, and to Joe Fab(‘69) for his
help as project Producer. All
fifty copies are accounted for and are in the loving care of grateful
alumni and/or faculty, and another donated copy resides at the National
Steinbeck Center in Salinas, California.
The last copy, which I bought to have as a “loaner”, has made
its way to over a dozen alums around the country and around the world.
(It is currently on its way back from Indonesia—with a bit of a
delay because of all the 9-11 rituals that mail now has to go through.) On a
personal note, I am still working as a registered nurse in the field of
utilization review and am enjoying it.
My husband and I are married twenty years this coming October.
We enjoy traveling when we get the chance. My job is satisfying and very busy. Any of you RNs out there who want to talk about working in
the field of utilization review, please feel free to e-mail me.
It’s a great place to work and I enjoy applying my clinical
knowledge now in an office setting. Too
old to be running up and down those hospital halls anymore! [The

(1983) Hello
and blast from the past to everyone! It makes you (ME) feel young to read
what each person has been doing and to hear about his or her families.
1983 seems like just yesterday (at times!) I
have moved to Panama City Beach Florida with my husband - Rob and daughter
- Emma 2 ½. This will be Rob’s last Navy tour and he will retire in
early ‘06 with 20 years. From there - who knows? After years of
infertility (and adopting Emma at birth) we are actually expecting a baby
in November! I
hope everyone is safe and well, and I look forward to seeing you all at
the reunion next year! The 5-year I was in boot camp, and the 10-year I
was stationed in Hawaii. I’ll be there in 2003! Deb From:

(1974) I’m
living in Germantown. I’m a Hair stylist working in Rockville. I’m
also seeing that my mom is ok. She has an aide that lives with her. I
really love her. She has made my life easier. My only Sister lives in
Dallas Texas and she’s so busy working, when she can find the time to
call to see how we are doing is rare.
She is doing well in Dallas and I cant blame her for that. I’m
here. Looking after Mom and working. I
adopted a beautiful dog 2 years ago named Lakota. He’s a cocker-mix and
he is the best dog. I found him at the dog pound only hours after he was
given up. I truly believe that he was meant for me. Others were on the
list for him but I saw him first. So Lakota and I are here. He’s such a
sweet dog. If I could adopt all the dogs and take them home, I wish! Please
adopt a Dog. You will save a life. And have a great life with a great pet.
I adopted a beautiful collie-mix years ago. She was the best dog. She died
after 14 years of me loving her. Her ashes are here with me.
I love pets. They give you peace and unconditional love despite the
mood you are in. ADOPT A

presently collecting data of current/former Rockville residents that have
or had cancer...anyone who lives in the area that feeds into English
Manor, Barnsley, Parkland, Wood, Peary or Rockville.
I will keep all data confidential.
Please provide me with your name, e-mail, type of cancer, street
address of house lived in Rockville, type of treatment you incurred,
outcome of treatment, genetic susceptibility if known, any exposed risk
factors you believe may have played a role and a brief story of what
happened. With this information, I will be presenting it to the
Maryland Department of Health for consideration of a Cancer Cluster Study
of the Rockville area to be executed by the EPA. During
my bought with breast cancer, many of you sent words of encouragement and
support of which I am extremely grateful, however, I was equally alarmed
at the magnitude of cancer incidence.
If you, a brother or sister, parent, friend or anyone you know with
cancer that has resided in the area, please contact me at Brosen1054@aol.com.
Thank you in advance for participating.
I am trying to get free cancer screening through the state for all

(1965) Well
seems just like yesterday that we had our reunion but still and all if
anyone has moved or changed email and not notified the midnight sun please
do so and also let me know. Hope all are well and still kicking because
some of us have hit the double nickel mark and just let our birthdays
slide by. Everyone keep well
and please keep me posted on any updates on addresses phone numbers etc.
Also if you have a spare 5.00 how about sending it to the midnight
sun because if all of us do so maybe we can help keep it alive. Keep
well Eileen From:

(1976) I
found out about the website from my homeroom classmate ... Mr. Bob Lau. Memorable
Incidents: There are so many things!
Stan Boteler was great. Mrs.
Luck was the funniest Teacher I think I have ever had. I can’t tell you
how many times she told me that I was a “Lost Ball in High Weeds!”
Well, I am glad to say that I worked my way out of the weeds :o) Since
High School: Graduated A.U. w/ B.S, became a Bank Manager for a short time
in Bethesda, began my career in Real Estate w/ Long & Foster in
Gaithersburg for about 2 yrs, then relocated with the rest of my family to
the Beach. I am blessed with
3 wonderful Children and a good business, and wonderful place to live.
Divorced from my 2nd wife this past summer.
It was and sometimes still is difficult, but life is great.
I love being a great Dad and being involved with my Kids-at 43, I
am more focused on them and what is going on inside their heads and it is
fascinating to watch the lights turn on as they grow.
Have been fortunate to travel some, just bought a new home, getting
more involved w/ community stuff, and my Church.
Bible study is very important to me.
Life events have a way of making you take a break, take a look at
yourself and desire to know more about what life is meant to be
about...the spiritual part of me was awakened and it has changed my life.
Being a single Dad keeps me ultra busy, but I thank God and enjoy
every single day. On a
side note: I went to a party at an oceanfront condo owned by a friend - as
I entered the kitchen and put down what I had brought- the girl next to
me, without introduction, said to me: “I went to High School with you”
I said no you didn’t (thinking she may have mistaken me for
someone local) - so we went back and forth - finally I found out that I
was wrong and she was right - her name is Laura Poulson (Not sure which
class, but close to mine). I
really enjoyed talking with Laura - she and her husband Ben are both
wonderful people Future
Plans: Well, this was not a “mid-life crisis”-it wasn’t! My bud,
Dave Filler (1976), and I (and dave’s wife Susan) all 3 bought
motorcycles the very same week in Oct 2000.
Dave and I used to ride all over the countryside - point of rocks,
sugarloaf, etc. when we were @ Peary and College...then we sold them
because we had to be more sensible (I got married when I was 20yrs).
Well, now we are back on the road...me with my Kawasaki 750 Vulcan,
and Dave w/ his Honda Shadow 1100. July
2001 Dave and I hooked up in Front Royal near my cousin’s flower shop
(Front Royal Florist) and we took a 4 day trip down Skyline, and 130 miles
down the Blue Ridge- the most perfect 4 days of weather - it was an
awesome trip! Dave and Susan,
and their daughter Erin have moved to Beaufort, SC where dave took a job
at a hospital there. Memorial
Weekend, I am trailering my bike to Matthews outside Charlotte, Dave is
riding up to meet me and we will take a 4 day trip on the Blue Ridge to
Asheville. Praying for great
weather again! As far as any other future plans - will plan experience the
goodness of life and people every day, love my children, and hopefully one
day meet the woman God meant for me.
I wrote a poem about love - wasn’t sure I would share it here,
but if you have read this far then I am astonished!
I haven’t written many, but this one is special to me.
I wrote it because it is what I feel, but it was actually written
by me for one of the members of my Church who had just lost his fiancé to
cancer at age 25. Here
goes... Title:
HOW TO REALLY LOVE A WOMAN By: J.S. Leatherwood To
really Love a Woman is to savor every moment shared; to know that when you
touched you touched Her Heart. To
know the smell of Her hair, and to remember Her laughter, Her smile, and
the sound of Her voice for all time. To
have known Her as a person, as a best friend, a soul mate, and to always
cherish that look of Love from Her eyes. To
have shared in life’s disappointments and successes; to have stood
together through the difficult time and come out on the other side in HIS
honor. To
miss Her so deeply when you’re apart, but to know that you will see each
other again. To
have relished the tender moments and just time spent together, all the
while celebrating the Goodness of Life. To
Love a Woman such as this is to surely know what GOD intended for all men. God
Bless! From:

(1972) I
responded as the Duty Officer to a house fire on Morningstar Drive in
Germantown, MD this afternoon about 4 PM. I arrived to find a large single
family home well involved with fire. I reported to the command post and
was assigned as the Staging sector. After the fire was under control, I
returned to the command post, where I ran into Captain Mike Carmody
(1972). Mike said, “Joey, do you know whose house this is?” I told him
I had no clue. He pointed down the long driveway and said, “See there?
It’s Mike and Gloria Carr (1972).” I
walked down and meet with the “Homeowners” gave Mike and Gloria a big
hug. We had 4 members of the class of 1972, standing in front of what had
been a beautiful home. I turned around as a Montgomery County
Police Officer arrived; it was Captain Wayne Fryer (Class of 1971?) Even
in this moment of tragedy, the smiles came out.
Imagine 5 Peary Alums. Then
George Ridgley (class of 1970) arrived. I wish the Carr’s a speedy
recovery from this very tragic event. Luckily no one was hurt, we tried to
save some of their personal belongings, but the house and contents
were destroyed. I will follow-up and pass on any needs from the
family. Joseph
