INTRODUCTION Greetings
Huskies: CORRECTION:
MSO confused the Ruffner brothers’ names in January’s newsletter and
regrets the posting of incorrect information.
Jennifer Nelson (1970), who passed away December 28th,
was the ex-wife of Gary Ruffner (Guy’s ex-sister-in-law). Our apologies for the error. REUNIONS:
The latest reunion info for classes scheduled to have one this year
is posted on the website. Additionally,
the Class of 1986 is planning a picnic this year!
The Class of 1985 “Missing Persons” list is now available
online in the 1985 Class Information Section.
All classes... browse through the class “missing” lists
occasionally for people who have dropped out-of-sight to assist the
reunion committees in tracking down some of these folks! Karen
Kushner (1982) is prepping for planning for the Class of 1982 20-year
Reunion next year..... if you’d like to assist with this, contact Karen
at kushnerk@arentfox.com. “Classes
of the 60s”.... remember to sign-up and attend (along with Wheaton
grads) the bash at Memories Charcoal House in Mt. Airy on April 21st! Contact Carol Cotton Hendrix (1964) at carolphs64@home.com
or click the link on the website main page’s Reunion Section for more
information. All information
will be distributed via e-mail and the Internet (that is, there will be no
mailings for this). Classes
of 1976 and 1977, stay tuned (i.e. watch your snail mail boxes) for
further information on the Las Vegas get-together, tentatively scheduled
for spring 2002. Alumni and
their families from ALL Peary grad years will be offered the packages and
discounts for this vacation at that time. Class
of 1965, from Manny Quinones (1965).... Manny would like to let his
classmates know that funds have been invested (bank CD, $1,000) as “seed
money” for the class’s next event!
Thank you to the Class of 1965 which also forwarded proceeds from
last year’s activities to the MSO to help pay for its online/website
costs. CONDOLENCES/GET-WELLS
TO ALUMNI AND THEIR FAMILIES: Barbara
Dentz Riley’s (1971) maternal grandmother passed away February 17. She
was 94 years old. Barb’s
grandfather, Peter Merylo (who was a police detective and died in 1958),
will be honored in April at Kent State University, with a scholarship
created in his name. His story and his almost-lifelong search for the Kingsbury
Run killer can be viewed at http://www.clevelandpolicemuseum.org/torso5.htm
- The Cleveland Police Historical Society’s website. Neal
Pizzano’s (1976) parents were recently hospitalized. Charlotte
Frances Heneghan, mother of Brian Heneghan (1975), Janet Heneghan Opar and
her twin brother Jim (1977), and four older children that may be Peary
alums, passed away on February 12. Alma
Elizabeth Boteler, mother of J. Stanton Boteler (Staff), died in his arms
with Alma’s husband present and beside her on February 7. Jim
Wagner, the father of Grant Wagner (1980) recently had major open-heart
surgery. Mr. Wagner would
love to hear from anyone in the old gang from 1978, 1979, or 1980 classes:
wagskay@aol.com Mike
Quigley (1973) suffered a heart attack on Monday January 29 and is
beginning the fight back. Tom
Johnston (1966) was killed on Sunday, January 28 as the result of a glider
plane accident. Peary sibling
survivors include Skip (Fred) Johnston (1963), Andy Johnston (1969), and
Jeri Johnston Kalins (1971). The
obituary from the Frederick News Post (courtesy of Linda Sue “Kelly”
Atwell (1964) who saw this and sent it to MSO) is posted on the website. Mrs.
Margie Ridgway passed away on January 24 to be reunited with her husband
and two daughters, Lynn (1970) and Rachel.
Survivors include her children Art Ridgway (1966) and Missie
Ridgway Rubin (1968). Dave
Spurlock (1966) played the bagpipes at her service. If
you would like to contact alumni above, visit the website.
These notices are posted and linked to e-mail (most of them - those
we have aboard MSO). MIDNIGHT
SUN ONLINE:
Thank you to several individuals who have recently mailed (or charged
online) donations to support this project over the past month.
Your financial support has enabled MSO to continue operating for
another couple of months! Surprisingly, of more than 3,350 alums aboard the MSO, only
10% have assisted financially (and many of classmates of that 10%,
multiple times, which is carrying the load for everyone else)!
Thank you, in advance, for your consideration of a voluntary
donation to assist in covering the costs of this website.
MSO vowed from the start (~August 1996) to never become a
subscription-based operation, and access to class information will always
be free, thus we ask for your voluntary support.
MSO is user-supported—there are no eccentric benefactors (if
there are, please let us know). Instructions
for making a donation are available on the website. ONLINE
CLASS COORDINATORS: In addition to the MSO website and the newsletter, each
class online has at least one volunteer assigned to his or her class, who
works with (or is part of) the respective class’s reunion committee.
These tireless folks regularly watch for “found” classmates,
provide MSO the reunion info that we make available to you, forward news
items about classmates, and generally help keep the MSO up-to-date on
what’s happening, to name some of the things they accomplish... so we
can make it available online and include items in the newsletters.
They are: 1963 Sari Hines McKay, 1964 Carol Cotton Hendrix, 1965
Eileen Brown Carter, 1966 Gale Senseman Privette, 1967 Audrey Gunnel Lohr,
1968 Barry Bone, 1969 Mike O’Neil, 1970 Ron Work - Ruth Kaneshiro Fujita
- Steve Banks, 1971 Barbara Dentz Riley, 1972 Jacquie Padgett, 1973 Laura
Vandevender Collins, 1974 Sandy Swarr Crawford, 1975 Betty Lopez, 1976 Bob
Lau, 1977 Joanna Dougherty Witzel - Ernie Lietzan - Paul Turner, 1978
Lynne Keady Galletti, 1979 Lisa Stein Aron, 1980 Janet Peters, 1981 Amy
Hirsch Edberg, 1982 Karen Kushner, 1983 Jeff Davis - Patty Toler, 1984 Jim
Carr, 1985 Becky Sowers Stalnaker, and 1986 Michelle Tully Harrington. Many
of you, too, also pass-along information throughout the year, and this is
appreciated! That’s what
this project is all about, this “Peary network” we have!
Whether it’s viewing a photo of a new child born to an alum, one
of our classmates in the news, career moves and promotions, links to
alumni family and business websites.... this is where we remain in-touch.
And we all know that there’s that intangible “something” that
those who walked those hallways have in common, that we share through our
memories via the technology. Thank
you for letting those you run into know about the MSO! ROBERT
E. PEARY H.S. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION:
Visit the association’s website at www.pearyalum.org
to find out more on the Peary-Henson Day activities scheduled for May 6th,
and how you can become involved. The
association’s next meeting will be held this Wednesday, the 28th,
at the Melvin J. Berman Academy (Peary building) at 7:30pm. TRIVIA:
Diane Arena Wilson (1976) was ultimately responsible for deciding and
selecting the name, “The Midnight Sun Online” back in 1996. The
deadline for the next issue of the Midnight Sun Online is Saturday March
24. “Submit an Article”
or “Sign-Up/Update” on the MSO website to let your old friends know
what you’ve been up to! And
to those of you who have been writing everyday to ask if my desk has been
put back together yet after the move: “NO” Bob
