INTRODUCTION Greetings
Huskies, and Happy New Year! APOLOGIES:
Thank you for your patience the past month, as the MSO was going
through a relatively arduous relocation and attempting to conduct daily
updates and “basic living” out of a hotel for 10 days, after having to
move, in-essence, twice as well (packing and storing boxes at the end of
December, waiting on closing on the new office condo, then moving it all
from storage into the new place). Whine,
whine, whine... but I AM so
very sorry that I was unable to update items daily as you’re accustomed
to. However, everything
has been updated online now after a 4-day catch-up session. The new mailing address for photos, hardcopy materials, and
donations for the Midnight Sun Online is 3404 Winterhaven Street, Suite
204, Las Vegas, NV 89108-5058. Donations
and news items sent to the old address have been forwarded, and recently
acknowledged. Again, thank
you for your patience since December 28th.
We’re not absolutely settled-in just yet, with a little more to
go, e.g. this project is currently being maintained from a local server
that’s still sitting on cardboard boxes, but we’re getting there. The new view from the office is on the website (thanks for
noticing, Guy Ruffner!). CONGRATULATIONS:
The daughter of Diana “Dee” Taylor Keselica (1977), Noelle, is
playing with the Women’s Under 19 National Team in a tournament here in
Las Vegas the week of February 4! As always, visit the “Husky Pups Club” area on the
website to see the latest news on children of alumni and recent births. CONDOLENCES:
To the following alumni families, you are in our thoughts and
prayers at this difficult time.... Karl
Joseph Berg, 75, Rockville, Maryland, died quietly at home on Dec. 26, 2000 from heart ailments.
He is the devoted father of Karla Berg Walker, ‘72; Cathy
Vincent-Smith, ‘73, Douglas L. Berg, ‘77; and Mary McAndrew, ‘83. Mr. Berg had fought heart problems for 25 years, but he had
many good years with family and friends due to advances in heart research.
Mr. Berg was in poor health for the last year.
The Berg Family has designated the American Heart Association
(839-E Quince Orchard Blvd., Gaithersburg, MD 20878) to receive donations
to honor their father, also a grandfather of 6, and loving husband of Jane
P. Berg for almost 48 years. Jennifer
Nelson (1970) died Dec. 28th after a long battle with MS. Pam
Marshall’s (1969) father passed away on January 16th.
He had been ill for the past two years. Robin
Rose Fine (1982) lost both of her paternal grandparents last November and
December. Dee
Dee Jump Herman’s (1975) mom passed away on September 20, 2000. REUNIONS:
Always check the website and your respective grad year info section
for the latest on reunion plans. The
Class of 1986 is planning a picnic this year—stay tuned for the details!
Michelle Tully Harrington has redesigned the Class of 1986
area—check it out. The
Class of 1981 “Missing Persons” list is now available in its Class
Information Section—help all of the classes track down these lost
people... if you know where they work, what city they were last known to
be living, a sibling, a mutual friend, a married name, etc., let the
respective class online coordinator know!
See the news/update in this issue from Carol Cotton Hendrix (1964)
about the planned event for those who graduated from our Alma Mater (with
Wheaton grads) in the 60s. April
21 at Memories Charcoal House in Mt. Airy.
Sign-up. Be there! STAFF:
We welcome to the MSO, Ron Kail, who taught at Peary 1974-1981.
AND we look forward to meeting-up with Mr. Burlas and Joyce here in
Las Vegas this spring! LAS
VEGAS GET-TOGETHER:
Still tentatively shooting for spring 2002, as sort of a joint
Class of 1976 “25+1” and Class of 1977 get-together.
Again, this does not preclude each class from organizing and
holding a traditional dinner/DJ dance in Rockville, and that is left to
the respective class’s reunion organizing committee.
Many have expressed interest in this, to combine into a family
vacation and also visit the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, L.A. at the same
time, along with the numerous family-oriented venues/activities in Las
Vegas. Travel, hotel, and
activity packages will be offered to ALL alumni, regardless of grad year,
and their families who wish to take advantage of the discounts at this
time. Thank you to Essie
Granzow Rupertus (1969) and Denny Dennewitz (1966) for offering their
services to make this idea a cost-effective adventure! THANKS:
To the anonymous (unknown/un-registered e-mail address) person from the
Class of 1967 who gave me the number of graduates for the class.
Finally, after almost two years of waiting for someone to let us
know! The
deadline for the next issue of the Midnight Sun Online is Saturday
February 24. “Submit an
Article” or “Sign-Up/Update” on the MSO website to tell everyone
what you’ve been up to! Bob
