Since High School: I received a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from U of MD. I moved to NC in 1991, went to Dewey Beach too many times and started a Structural Engineering business in 1997. I got married in 1998 and have spent the last year and half building a house.  We are expecting our first child in June.

I found out about the website while my husband was looking at his high school information and then we searched for mine.

Occupation: Homemaker for the last year; previously an Executive Assistant and remain per diem, Spouse: Robert (Bob), Children: Dane Augustin - age 8, Garrett Evan - age 6, Hunter Ian - age 4

Since High School: My family moved to Florida the year after we graduated.  I attended one year of college in Maryland and then graduated from college in Florida.  I have been working since then, beginning as a bookkeeper in a bank, then secretarial work in a hospital, followed by marriage in 1983, continuing to work in banking and hospitals, three children, all boys ages 8,6, and 4.  In 1986, I moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida where I started working at Martin Memorial Medical Center and continued to work full time (for 13 years) until last year when I decided it was time to try staying at home with my kids (which has been my dream since Dane, my oldest, was born).  So far so good.  A lot happened in between, but this is just a short synopsis!

Future Plans: Raising my children. I would also like to travel.

Subject:  My mother’s passing

My mother, Eleanor T. Coder (also mother to Bill Coder ‘67 and Martha Coder ‘75 and mother-in-law to Marsha Robbins Coder ‘67) died on Sunday, December 3, 2000 at the Washington Hospital Center of complications following heart bypass surgery. She was 81.

A memorial service was held at the Rockville United Church on Saturday, December 9, 2000. Many of our classmates attended. Dr. Dunn and Mr. Hill were there. Two bagpipers from Rockville H.S. played at the service.  [Alumni attendees included Rachel Cope Goldfarb (‘67), Tom Browne (‘68), Rich (‘68) and Laura Reid (‘75) Waalkes, and Richard (‘72) and Jack (‘78) Robbins.]

My mother was a very active participant at REPHS during our time there including PTA, athletic and pipe band support as well as other school and community activities.

She is survived by my father and her husband of over 58 years, Norman, four children and their three partners, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. We will miss her dearly.

Anybody else out there a fan British folk-rock? The legendary Steeleye Span gave a fabulous concert at “The Birchmere” (Alexandria, VA) last September. Also wonderful: New York City’s amazing klezmer fusionists “The Klezmatics,” who gave a brilliant show at the Kennedy Center “Millenium Stage” a few weeks ago.

If you’re a fan of great guitar, don’t miss the hot licks of Phil Mathieu (RPHS ‘79) with the rockin’ country band Ruthie & the Wranglers.  They’ve been doing some traveling, so keep watching your local entertainment papers for venues and times.

“BIG WORLD” magazine: I am the music editor for this quarterly

“Alternative Travel” magazine. We also have a web site and I’m now compiling a music section for that. Check it out at:  http://www.bigworld.com

I also have several reviews in the 50th anniversary issue of “SING OUT!” magazine.

And to prove that I’ve really joined the 21st century, I also have reviews up on the “Folk” and “World” sections of the “CD NOW” web site. http://www.cdnow.com

Attention fellow ‘69ers: How would you like to have an annual informal reunion gathering? We’d just meet at a restaurant or bar in the Rockville area. If there is interest, I could probably also line up a tour of the old RPHS building—it looks really good; the Hebrew Academy folks have done a wonderful renovation job! Write me at:  kenroseman@earthlink.net if you like the idea of an annual informal reunion.

Thanks again to Bob Lau (‘76) for all his work on keeping the M.S.O.  going!

Best wishes to all alumni for the holiday season and New Year!!

Subject:  Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, And Happy New Year

Have a very Merry Christmas and or Happy Chanukah at this time of the year.  The Hasslers are alive and doing well and we hope to see or hear from you all soon.

At this point, I’m still working but pondering retirement in May, Vicki is still working part time at Gaithersburg Pres. Church in the pre school and volunteering for everything she can, Kristen is in the College of Charleston in South Carolina and doing quite well, Valerie is in 11th grade at Magruder High and is doing well in school along with participating in field hockey, swimming and lacrosse, Jami is in 9th grade at Magruder and doing the same while also participating in Field hockey, swimming and her forte is softball. Andrea is in 7th grade at Shady Grove Middle School, doing excellent in her schoolwork while playing in the band (flute), playing softball, basketball and anything else she wants.

My plans for retirement really look to changing jobs. I may be going into the insurance industry with New York Life, or maybe teaching at another school system, working for Home Depot but doing something productive and what I want to do. I just got a schedule for our Big Band for the year and we’re doing about 20 jobs already for the year and the first is on January 6 at the Omni Shoreham in Washington.

Vicki is active with the girls. 3 are at home, but Kris stays in touch daily from CofC in Charleston via either phone or the Internet.  (What a great venue for communicating).

So from the Hasslers....

Merry Christmas

             Happy Chanukah

and Have a Happy New Year

Paul, Vicki, Kristen, Valerie, Jami, Andrea and Cody.
