(1973) I am
grateful for and was so moved by the expressions of camaraderie and love
from classmates who sent their sympathy upon my father’s death; some
remembered things about my dad (rides to basketball practice, his corny
jokes) that were gifts of warm memories for me and my family.
Thank you for your beautiful thoughts and prayers. From:
Barbara Lawrence Hays <tuffy2@donet.com>
(1974) Is
there anyone from the REP marching band of 1973-74 who knows the name of
the school that we did an exchange concert with in Ohio?
I remember it was around Canton and Akron, but I don’t think it
was in either of those cities. Thanks,
Barbara

(1974) Recently
I went through a life-awakening experience. I wanted to thank each and
every person that was (and still is) instrumental in helping me keep my
spirits up during these trying times. I wrote a poem to convey my deepest
feelings and to my surprise, it has been published. You can find it on the
website for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
They are also planning to use it in their future pamphlets. Here is
copy of it to share with all “Peary People.” “Journey
Unknown” Written
by Virginia Condell-Nelson We
witness the beauty in the changing of the seasons,
never questioning, disputing or concerned for the reasons. “But
summer is ending”, the fragile leaf is told,
a life-awakening journey was soon to unfold. Alterations
occur, the confusion begins,
the liveliness, spirit, the true being thins. Finally
detecting the fore-threatening call,
recognizing the others in their premature fall. It
was the screaming of winds with those menacing threats,
that disengaged the lone leaf without any regrets. Slowly
descending, each emotion heightened,
swaying this way and that, totally frightened. Crippled
by a web of doubt, embellished with silent tears,
untangled by compassionate hands, cradling all fears. The
comforting feelings were undeniably embraced,
for the struggle with stability was surely to be erased. The
turmoil eradicated by a validated calm,
now flourishing, protected in the populace palm. Gently
guidance at the beginning of this journey unknown,
is true confirmation that the leaf...that I, was never alone! To
all the people who have helped me, a heart-felt thank-you and I am grateful
to be able to share my gratitude in this poem. Stay health and | Back to the Newsletter Selections |
