I graduated from Rockville.  I knew about the website and had visited previously, but was reminded by news coverage about Bruce Prothero’s death.

Occupation: Web Site Design and Maintenance, Spouse: Michael, Children: Justin - June 15, 1990; Kyle - August 29, 1995; Travis – April 16, 1999

Memorable Incident: Sadly, one of my clearest memories from our year at Peary was the death of Brian Hardaway.  I will never forget the stillness that filled the halls that morning.  Also, the image of my brother, Doug (Class of 1984), breaking down in tears as he heard the news on the radio is one that will always stay in my mind.

Since High School: My career has taken several turns.  Currently, I am maintaining the Women’s Health web site for the University of Maryland School of Medicine.  Luckily, I am able to do this from home so that I can spend time with my boys and start up my Creative Memories business on the side.

Future Plans: We are actually in the process of buying a new house right now, so that is taking up the majority of my time.  Other than that, I am just hoping that my role as a Consultant for Creative Memories will grow and become more profitable.

Memorable Teachers: I remember Mr. Bragonnier because he was always so good at relating to his students.  I had him for the last class of the day, but he managed to keep us interested (at least most of the time).  I also remember Mr. Hill.  I never had him as a teacher, but I sat in on his class one day and I think that I learned more during that one class than I learned all year in Mr. Myers class.

Subject:  needed data

I am being asked more and more to speak on the topic of children who kill their abuser.  I have worked with a number of children over the years that fall into that category.  However, there is little statistical data on this topic.  I am trying to gather such data.  I would appreciate any info anyone has or comes across in the paper.  In order to address this problem more effectively we need data that is not anecdotal.  I would appreciate your help.

Memorable Incidents: Greased pig in the hallway, VW in the senior courtyard, Bruce Tucker chewing tobacco in Mr. Clarke’s class, Bill Barrett jumping out the window of Mr Courtney’s class.  Going to sporting events (i.e. Football, Basketball, Wrestling, etc.) with friends and watching the best POM POMs and Cheerleaders in the State of Maryland.

Since High School: University of Maryland - ECONOMICS Five year plan 1981-1986.  Met my wife Aileen at U of MD and we have been raising two wonderful children.

Worked for the Department of the Navy (Summer 1983/Fall 1991) before becoming a program manager for the Federal Aviation  Administration (FAA).  Currently, Financial Manager for FAA’s Office of System Capacity.

Future Plans: Surviving high school with my children.  Paying for college.  Building a retirement home on the Chesapeake Bay.  Spending more time traveling, fishing, swimming, and golfing.

Memorable Teacher: Mr. Clarke because he really enjoyed teaching.  He showed me how to have fun, get organized, and learn something.

I live near Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, about 3 hours from mom and dad. They still live on Arctic Ave. Sister Linda (74) and brother Dan (79) still live in Rockville. Sister Debe lives in South Africa. Miss Sugars (?) counselor said maybe I shouldn’t go on to college but did and graduated from Frostburg in 1982 and was commissioned a second luey in US Army. We lived for 3 years in Germany and another 4 in Missouri before events brought us back east. Left the army in 91 and graduated from West Va. Uni...still in the National Guard and have the rank of lieutenant colonel. I plan to retire from the Guard by 2003 and then collect my pension when I turn 60. That’s the plan, at least.  Has been an adjunct instructor at Garrett Community College. Married 17 years come May. Two boys one is 16 and beginning to drive (yikes!) and a 13 year old. Involved with Boy Scouts and my eyes are hitting middle age.  How we got to the Meyersdale, Pennsylvania area is a long tale...

Subject:  AVON 3-Day for Breast Cancer

Hi everyone!  I realize this is almost too late, but I wanted to let anyone still here in Maryland know that I’ll be walking in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day, May 5-7, 2000! I’ll be walking from Frederick, MD to Washington, DC with about 3200 other people, all in an effort to raise money and awareness about Breast Cancer.

Fortunately, my family (blood-wise) does not have a history of this disease, but many friends do.  I’m hoping that my participation can provide some type of support to those that have fought this battle, and those that are currently fighting it, whether it be money provided to Spouse Support Groups while a loved-one is undergoing treatment, or by funding the research necessary to find ways to fight Breast Cancer more effectively, or by simply showing others that someone cares enough to walk 60 miles for them!

In the last few weeks, as I’ve increased my training for the event, I’ve met some remarkable people that I’ll be walking with.  Some are survivors themselves, others are walking in honor of their loved ones, and some are spouses forced to watch their wives battle this disease.

If you are interested, please come out to Cheer us on, as we’ll be walking through the Gaithersburg/Rockville area sometime between May 5 and May 7.

Additionally, if you are interested and able, please consider sponsoring me.  I have agreed to raise $1800 before May 5.  Needless to say, raising the money has been more difficult than physically training for the walk!  The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is a tax-deductible, 501©(3) organization.  You can obtain a Pledge Form online at www.breastcancer3day.com - Go to the Washington, DC 3-day and the Pledge Form is available.  My walker number is 4154-DC.  Thank you for your attention and support!

Memorable Teacher: That would be Mrs. Canning. She used to fall asleep in mid-sentence.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for reuniting me and my best friend since first grade!  I have been looking for Christine Rice for 15 years and thanks to you and my brother Jim’s keen eye, I finally found her!!  We’ve literally picked up where we left off and we’re having a great time together. Subject:  Visit to home!!!

Dear REPHS alumni and staff, I returned to the area this week because I had a tutorial to teach in Baltimore on Monday the 27th. I had the whole day on Sunday to just drive around.

Ah, springtime in the Washington metropolitan area. I had almost forgotten how truly beautiful it is, with daffodils, tulips, and blooming trees. Here in California, we don’t have spring as back east.

I went by the school and was impressed by the appearance of the Berman Academy, but disturbed that the auditorium is still guarded by chain link fence. The fence suggests trouble in the neighborhood and is an eye blight on everyone’s’ property. Can the owners do something to improve the appearance?

I went by my old home and was impressed with the maturity of the trees in the neighborhood. When I left, the street trees still did not shelter the streets. I also went by the former homes of several other classmates, just for nostalgic reinforcement. The old neighborhoods look beautiful and bring back fond memories.

I wish I could come home but, alas, work keeps me here toiling for NASA at JPL.

Warmest wishes to all Huskies!!!

Roger Welker (toad, for those of you that remember)
