INTRODUCTION

Greetings Huskies:

February 2000 Newsletter Correction: Patricia Bassing Conley was incorrectly published as a member of the Class of 1983. She is an alumna of 1970.

MR. CLARKE’S RETIREMENT:  A reminder that a memory book is being compiled for Mr. Clarke by his colleagues at Richard Montgomery.  The deadline for submissions of materials is May 30th.  Details are posted on the website in the Staff Information Section.

PAULA GOODMAN CREWS (1975):  Read an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune that includes an interview with Paula about the teen pregnancy support group at Sharp Memorial Hospital where she is a clinical social worker.  The article is linked from the MSO website.

CONGRATS: To Dave Rush (1971) who became a grandfather (by first marriage) when his daughter gave birth to a girl on Groundhog Day.  Dave mentions “Married life is much better the second time around...  but this aging process is killing me.”  Birth announcements and alumni kids’ news are posted in the Husky Pups section of the website.

CLASS OF 1971, ET AL: Friends of Gary Ebert (1971) might want to visit the display of memorial blocks from the AIDS Memorial Quilt which will be on display at American University this week.  See further details from Mr. Pine in this newsletter.

REUNIONS:  The latest info can be found on the MSO website for the Classes of 1963-65 (joint 3-day event beginning August 11), 1970 (July 29), 1975 (August 5), and 1980 (August-TBD).  Get your reservations in now and check the “missing persons” lists online.  Additionally, there is an open invitation to attend the 1963-1965 Joint Reunion, with payment of course, and anyone wishing to advertise in their reunion book with a business card may do so for $20.  Contact Gale Senseman Privette (1966) at gale7@juno.com to place your order.

HOMECOMING 2000:  Several earlier-year graduates have asked about the location of the Platters/Marvelettes concert set for June 17, 2000 at the Sylvia Ely Auditorium.  The auditorium (constructed early-mid 1970s, and formerly the Joseph P. Campitell Auditorium) is on the former school grounds and adjacent to the front parking lot... opposite side of the “drivers ed” range.  Mark your calendars for June 16-18, 2000!  For details, visit the website at www.pearyalum.org.

MIDNIGHT SUN ONLINE: The “MSO” has surpassed the 2,600 mark of those alums who are signed-up with us, and we continue to receive online updates from former classmates (1963-1986) everyday, literally.  Thank you for telling your former classmates and friends about this project, and for your continued voluntary financial support of its operation.  For statistical purposes, we still need the number of graduates from the following class years: 1963, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1974, 1977, 1978, and 1982.  Thanks to those who have assisted with the count for the other grad years.

If you are experiencing problems with the recently-modified navigation buttons on MSO, using IE 5.x, and haven’t updated your browser since May 1999, you might need to apply a patch that can be downloaded at http://support.microsoft.com/support/downloads/lnp575.asp The deadline for the next issue of the Midnight Sun Online is Saturday April 22.  Use the “Submit an Article” button on the website to let your classmates know what you’ve been up to, and/or complete and submit your class update form online (in your respective class information section).  With each month’s newsletter distribution, there are inevitably 30-60 “bounces” (not bad, out of 2,650+) due to bad e-mail addresses.  If your e-mail address has changed, please drop us a note or submit an update, please.  The listings are updated weekly, at least (more often, daily).  Thanks!
