Greetings
Huskies: REUNIONS:
Tremendous progress has been made since last month’s issue by all
of the organizing committees of this year’s class reunions.
All of the latest info can be found on the MSO website for the
Classes of 63-65 (joint event, 3-day event beginning August 11), 1970
(July 29), 1975 (August 5), and 1980 (August).
Get your reservations in now and check the “missing persons”
lists online—maybe you know where some of these missing people are!
Additionally, anyone who wishes to attend the 1963-1965 Joint
Reunion may do so—it is open to members of all classes (with payment of
course!) -- and advertising space is available for the reunion program
booklet. Contact Gale
Senseman Privette (1966) at gale7@juno.com
if you’d like to attend the ‘63-‘65 Reunion.
Most of the committees have secured discounted hotel and travel
rates for you. HOMECOMING
2000: Plan now to attend this
3-day event that is being held at our Alma Mater (now the Berman Academy)
June 16-18, 2000 on Arctic Avenue (you know where)!
The community event will include music, demonstrations, car show,
notable/celebrity speakers, sporting events, booths—and highlighted on
Friday with fireworks and a Saturday concert with the Platters and
Marvelettes ($40/ticket). This
is one event that the Aspen Hill community will remember for a long time!
For details, visit the Alumni Association website at www.pearyalum.org. SYMPATHY:
As you may already be aware, we mourn the passing of Sgt.
Bruce Prothero (1982), an officer with the Baltimore County P.D.,
who was working a security job for a jewelry store in Pikesville, MD and
attempting to thwart a robbery on February 7, 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Warman Prothero (1984) and five
children. Many of you also
knew Bruce’s siblings (Bruce was one of eight children).
A memorial fund has been established by the Peary High School
Alumni Association. Send to
“REPHSAA, Inc. - Bruce Prothero Children’s Memorial Fund” c/o Sandra
Watkins - Branch Manager, FCNB, Inc., 400 Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD
21771. We
also mourn the loss of Stanley R. Brown, who worked many years as a
custodian at Peary. The Brown
family had six children and relatives who attended Peary between 1963 and
1984. Condolences
to Debby Carey Brogan (1966), whose husband Bob passed-away on January 27th.
Continued prayers for Debby’s nephew, Mark, son of Alan Carey
(1969), who received a bone marrow transplant January 31st. Thank
you for your prayers and e-mails for Martha Houlder Niland (1974) who was
in the hospital for more than 30 days as a result of the flu which
progressively got worse and created more-serious complications.
She has some difficult therapy ahead of her, but towards a complete
recovery. Barbara
Greenberg Rosenberg (1981) battles with Cancer.
E-mails may be sent c/o Janet Greenberg (1978) at greenbej1@aol.com
and will be forwarded to Barbara. To
all of the families experiencing these difficult times, we extend our
thoughts, prayers, and support. MIDNIGHT
SUN ONLINE: The “MSO” is quickly approaching a listing of 2,600 alumni
who are signed-up with it. Thank
you for telling your former classmates and friends about this project, and
for your continued financial support of its operation.
With so many alums aboard now, it literally has become a
2-to-4-hour-a-day routine to keep listings and news items updated and the
website maintained, plus the monthly newsletter, distribution, and
specific-class information. Thanks
to Steve Banks (1970), John Alvey (1979), and Jim Carr (1984) who have
created class-specific websites to help alleviate the mass organization it
all requires; and to Laura Vandevender Collins (1973) who maintains the
information in the Class of ‘73 Section on MSO (as well as the Peary
Alumni Birthday Club pages and the coding of the newsletter archive
online). BTW, there are still
a few unidentified individuals in the photos online of one of Mr.
MacKay’s chemistry classes in 1963.
See if you can name them! CLASS
ONLINE COORDINATORS: Still
seeking individuals from the Class of 1974 and 1975 to continue the work
for the respective class info areas.
Additionally, the Class of 1974 Information Section is very out-of-date.
If you, a 1974 classmate, have good organizational and html-coding
skills, let us know! Whoever
takes-on the 1975 online coordination will immediately be working with
Betty Lopez and Connie Scuderi Gallerizzo for the 25-year reunion
planning. PARKLAND
PANTHERS: Those of you who
attended Parkland between 1965 and 1976... we’d like to welcome Mr. Jeff
Schultz aboard. Although Mr. Schultz isn’t former Peary Staff, he was certainly an
influence on us as we prepared for high school, and is a part of who we
are today. See his submission
in this newsletter and give him a holler! The
deadline for the next issue of the Midnight Sun Online is Saturday March
25. Use the “Submit an
Article” button on the website to let your classmates know what you’ve
been up to, and/or complete and submit your class update form online if we
haven’t heard from you in a while! Bob
