not sure how many of us “Peary” people are working in the system (MCPS)...
or how many people knew Bruce, but I thought you all should know (and
please pass the information on to whomever may have known Bruce) that he
was killed in the line of duty on Monday, Feb. 7.
He was a Baltimore County Policeman for the past 12 years.
He is survived by his wife and 5 children between the ages of 2 and
6 (he had triplets). You
may have known this information, but I thought you would want the donation
information. Bruce was a 1982
graduate of Peary. I

(Katz) and Dave Fischel announce the arrival (better late than never!) of
Ari Ryan Fischel on November 24, 1998.
He is named for his paternal grandfather and his maternal
grandfather. The family resides in Olney, Maryland.
Faith continues to work for the Department of Special Education in
Montgomery County Public Schools and her husband, Dave, is the studio
manager at Fine Art Photography, in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Incidents: sledding on the hill behind Peary, sneaking out of Since
High School: I was in law enforcement for ten years, but due to an auto
accident, was unable to continue in that line. Have been home supporting
my kids and husband in his side-line job of home improvement and we
recently purchased a new home in Frederick County! Future
Plans: I am currently licensing for daycare (am I crazy?!) and hoping to

Teachers: Mr. Clarke (doesn’t everyone?), Mr. Hill for his wisdom and
little did we know how true those sayings were-we couldn’t until we got
older, and Mrs. Hale for her time spent with those of us who loved working

High School: I have been married to a wonderful woman, Alison, since March
18, 1989. We have two great
boys, Thomas (7) and Sammy (2). I
went to UM after Peary and dropped out with 104 credits (big mistake).
I married Alison in 1989 (smartest thing I ever did). I have two great kids. I
worked in a professional photo store for most of the years after leaving
college, and I do wedding photography.
For the last two years I have been very lucky to be a stay at home
dad. I would recommend this to any parent.
It is amazing to watch your babies grow into little people.
I have a private pilot’s license and plan on graduating with a
bachelors degree in aviation this december.
My goal is to be an airline pilot or just have somebody pay me to
fly airplanes. My wife and I just bought a house in Ellicott City, MD and
we don’t plan on ever moving again. Future
Plans: Be a good husband and father and hopefully get paid to fly

teammates to field hockey and softball games. Since

Use of Schools Office scheduling ball fields. Still playing softball in a

just wanted everyone to know that my best bud Alyson Berman Holzinger
class of 1982 and her husband Andy gave birth to TWINS! Yes I said
Twins!!! Maxwell weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces and Sabrina weighing 5 pounds
on August 20, 1999. I have not seen them yet but Auntie Lisa can’t wait
to hold them! Let me tell you something, they are VERY CUTE!!! She has
sent me alot of pictures Max is all boy and Sabrina looks so petite and
beautiful just like her mommy. Max is very cute and handsome also. It’s
hard to believe but in 2 years my kids can baby-sit Alyson’s! Well, I
just wanted to let you know about this exciting news I would have sent
this sooner but alyson said she would get to it. I guess she’s been a
little busy lately and I’m not going to use the expression “she’s
got her hands full” because I hated when people said that expression to

My daughter, Patrica, graduated from Peary H/S in 1964. She advises
me that she has learned that this individual may have served as the
Commanding Officer of the USCG Base at Ketchikan, Alaska.........My
connection goes back to the early 1950’s when I was the Commanding
Officer of the USCG Buoy Tender HEMLOCK, based at Ketchikan. Patricia
started school in Ketchikan. Reason for the inquiry is probably nothing more than a
nostalgic bit of curiosity. If

found out about the website from my coworker, Martha Wise, who is a 1975
alumni from Peary HS. Occupation:
Computer Specialist, Spouse: Don Hsia, Children: Brandon, age 12. Memorable
Incidents: I was too shy and quiet to make many friends or participate
much in school activities. I
was at Peary for my Junior year and part of my Senior year.
During my Senior year, my medical condition (Chronic Inflammatory
Demyelinating Polyneuropathy - similar to MS) caused such weakness that I
had to finish my Senior year at home.
I do remember how I enjoyed the one-on-one relationship I had with
my home-instructor. I think I
was able to learn more because of it.
I can’t remember her name, but I passed with flying colors and
was able to receive my diploma! Since
High School: I attended Montgomery College and audited a few courses
before landing a job at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in
Bethesda, MD. While working
full-time, I began taking evening courses in Computer Science at
Montgomery College. In 1979,
I was selected for the NIH STRIDE program and got married the same year.
As an NIH STRIDE employee/student, I worked part-time at NIH while
attending American University full-time.
In 1982 I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer
Science from A.U. My husband
& I have traveled to places like California, Nevada, Hawaii, the
northeastern states of the U.S., Canada, England, France, Italy,
Switzerland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.
Our son, Brandon, was born in 1987, and we began taking
family-oriented vacations to places like New York City, Williamsburg, and
Disneyworld. I am still
working at NIH. Future
Plans: Enjoying life one day at a time.
I’m looking forward to my retirement from the Government.

Teachers: I don’t remember the names of my teachers, but I appreciated
the ones who tried to draw me out of my shell.
They didn’t just ignore me because I was too shy to speak or
raise my hand. Teachers who
give equal attention to each and every one of their students are rare, and
I applaud them!! Since
my health has deteriorated due to my medical condition, I don’t travel
much or attend many functions. Walking
is difficult, so I enjoy staying home with my family, visiting relatives

Everyone! This is great! I love being able to stay in touch with old
friends. After high school I attended Montgomery College in Dental
Assisting. I met my husband while in training at Walter Reed. At the time
he was a civilian dental assistant. We got married and celebrated our 25th
on New Years Eve! We live in Georgetown DE, about 20 minutes from the
beach. I love the slower lifestyle and being so close to the beach, which
I love. We have three daughters. Melissa-21 is a Senior Nursing student at
Towson University. She will graduate in Dec. 2000.
She is an excellent student, making the Dean’s List many times.
Laura-18 is a Senior in High School. She also gets great grades (just like
their Mom). Her life is field Hockey. She has played Varsity for four
years, attended many major camps and has played on a state final team. She
was named all-conference in 97, 98 & 99. She was All-State in 98 and
99. She is planning on Attending West Chester University in the fall. She
is being recruited for the Division 1 team. We are so proud of her.
Kimberly-15 is a freshman in high school. She also plays field
hockey. I was

I looked forward to reading them every day. Mr. Nawrocki because he
didn’t like my fast driving and he was good looking. Mr. Boteler because
he was so layed back and taught an interesting class. Mrs. Rosen was the
sweetest teacher. Loved her personality. Mr. Gibbs because he was teased
so much by so many, yet he is a bright man and taught an interesting
class. Mr. Lynch because he was so strange; always seemed to be on some
kind of drug and hated me with a passion. Ms. Scheideman for her wonderful
lively and open personality, her beautiful looks and personality to match.

1987. Two children Michael 1988 and Kristen 1990.
I was a stay at home mother until just recently.
We have lived in Olney for going on 8 years now and love it.
Our children are quite active in community activities such as
scouting, sports, and church which keep our family very busy. Since
High School: After graduation worked for a while at odd jobs. Went to
Montgomery College but never got a degree.
Went to Europe for 6 weeks with sister Dana and friend and had the
time of my life. Started
dating Gary and never looked back. We
were married at St. Judes Catholic Church in Sept. of 1987.
Honeymooned in Maui. Lived
in Wheaton and then came out to Olney .
Have 2 great kids, Michael Brandon Lee 12-6-88 and Kristen Nicole
Lee 10-19-90. That’s about

Plans: We plan to remain in Olney as both of us work in area.
We are very happy with the schools here as well.

found out about the website from the Alumni reunion mailing just Occupation: Playing violin for fun; walking all over NYC, Memorable
Incidents: Susan Leslie (Peary ‘65) came home with me after school one
day with the school’s Siberian Huskie mascot, “King”.
(Susan’s family took care of “King” at their home, if I
remember correctly.) King was
thirsty, so we gave him a drink out of one of our kitchen pots, then put
it on top of the stove. Soon
afterwards, my sister, Kathy, came home and decided to cook a hot dog for
herself - inadvertently heating up “King’s water” to cook it.
Whoops! I also
remember participating in the powderpuff football game.
Also - during the Cuban missile crisis - having many discussions in
our senior political science class about whether or not we were going to
get into a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Since
High School: Graduated in 1967 from Eastman School of Music, Rochester,
New York. Worked and lived
around Washington, D.C. and Arlington, Va. until 1973.
At that time, moved to Madison, New Jersey with my husband, so he
could take a job at Bell Laboratories.
Raised three children there. Moved
up here to Hastings-On-Hudson in 1996 (fifteen miles north of New York
City) to get a shorter commute because of his job change.
Worked in a bookstore up here for a couple of years.
Children are all grown up; two have graduated from college, the
last one enters this fall. Enjoying
playing the violin and taking violin lessons (for fun) and having a great
time attending theater, concerts, museums, etc., in New York City. Future

Teachers: Miss Staney - she taught English, or maybe theater (?) We had fun doing monologues, etc., in her class.
Mrs. Pearl Richardson - those advanced biology classes and
dissecting those cats! Mr.
Wilkins - taught World History, I believe. He had played football for the Washington Redskins back in
the ‘40’s. When he walked
into the room, his shoulders filled the whole doorway! I
