After 30 years of not seeing or hearing from each other, Jeff Lindblad and Terri Cohea, both of the Class of ‘71 announce their engagement to each other. Thirty years ago they dated for a short time and broke up.  Since that time each went and lived their separate lives raising families, experiencing the joy and sadness life would bring. A time of sadness and sorrow for one, as well as divine intervention, would bring them together again one night as they both sat over a thousand miles away from each other in front of glowing computer screens, each on line and each wondering should I or shouldn’t I say “Hi.” One said hello....

Jeff and Terri will be married on July 15 in Bethany Beach, Delaware.

I found out about the website from my sister, Karen (class of ‘68).

Occupation: Bookkeeper at St. Catherine Labouré Elementary School, Spouse: Edward “Dennis,” Children: Julie, 19 years old, is a sophmore at University of Tampa, FL. Cheryl, 15 years old, is a sophomore at Good Counsel High School. Gail, 13 years old, is in the eighth grade at St.  Catherine Labouré School.

Memorable Incidents: I remember Mrs. Zimmerman’s shorthand classes.  She wouldn’t allow the girls to wear slacks so we would bring a skirt to change into before and after her class.

The rare day I got to drive the family’s 1965 Ford Fairlane to school I parked it in front of the school and locked the keys in the car.  The big trouble was that it was still on.  I had been too busy to notice because I had picked up JoAnn Morgan and Joyce Cooper and we were talking.  I came out at the end of the school day and it was still running!  Don’t remember anything about how we got in to it.

Mrs. Boorman’s chemistry class.  What a joy she was!  I actually think I learned something.

Driver’s ed.  Driving down two lane Georgia Ave. just past Aspen Hill with about two or three other students in the car and the teacher.

John Schrider dancing in the cafeteria to a song on the jukebox.

Since High School: After graduation from high school, I attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Textiles and Apparel in 1974.  Having worked part-time during college at Army Times Publishing Co., Washington, D.C., I went to full time as a Data Processing Control Clerk.  From there I moved into the programming staff and received my training.  I then got a job a Giant Food Inc., Landover, MD., as a Computer Programmer.  I quit in the fall of 1982 to be home with my daughter, Julie.  I couldn’t stand not being their for all her “firsts.”  Stayed home and had two more daughters and volunteered at my childrens elementary school - St. Catherine’s.  When my youngest, Gail, was in second grade, I worked as a First Grade Teacher’s Assistant until the job of bookkeeper opened up in 1995.  Been there since.

Future Plans: I could easily become a beach bum.  But I would also like to travel and see the U.S.

Memorable Teacher: Miss Gunner (English teacher) wanted to make sure all of the seniors got to go to the prom.  So she matched us up with other seniors who didn’t have a date.  She matched me up with Fred Griffith.

Occupation: Homemaker, Spouse: Alex, Children: Paula 11, Laura 9, Joseph 6

Since High School: My husband, Alex, is in the Air Force and we were transferred last summer to Texas, just outside Dallas.  We bought some land out in the country and are trying a different lifestyle!  We currently are raising 28 chickens and hope to get a dairy goat in a few months.  Of course, the kids want a horse and a dog.  That will have to wait!

Alex has another six years in the military before he can retire.  If we have another assignment before then, I hope it is back to Edwards AFB in the California desert.  I loved it there!  I am home schooling Paula only this year.  It is an interesting experience.  Her younger sister is jealous and wants to be home schooled also.  I am busy doing the “mom” thing - cooking, cleaning, and chauffeuring.  I have been heartened to see that so many alumni near my age are just now having their first children.  Maybe I am not so old after all!  My parents still live in Maryland so I am the area at least once a year.

Does anyone keep in touch with Janice Bailey (1979)?  I have good memories of our times together.  Please tell her “Hi” from me.

Memorable Incidents: Hard to single out any in particular; just have six years of many memorable occasions!

Since High School: Some college.  Most of my work experiences have been as a Federal government employee, working my way up through the ranks.  Also dabbled in a few at-home businesses (sewing/ piecework for a bridal shop, and selling skin care products/cosmetics) while raising three children.  Have been married/divorced, remarried/widowed, and was reunited with an old boyfriend from our Class and we married in 6/98.  Love/Marriage is great at our ages!!  Prior to moving to Arizona in 4/99, worked as a Training Specialist for FEMA for 9 years managing emergency management training programs, which I really enjoyed.  Since our move, have been busy getting settled, rebuilding my Mary Kay business, and just enjoying “our” new life.

Future Plans: Stay healthy and happy in order to enjoy life in AZ.  Travel to parts of the US that I haven’t been before.  Make periodic trips back East to visit with my kids, family, and the “lunchbunch.” Also plan to continue with educating my mind to hopefully keep it sharp in the years to come.

Memorable Teachers: Mr. Hill (Algebra) and Mrs. Richardson (Earth Science) for their dedication to their students.  Mr. McKay (Chemistry) for his discriminatory practices towards some students; those on the Wrestling Team always seemed to pass even if it was apparent they cheated.

My only regret is that my grandmother did not live long enough to see her first great grandson graduate from high school.  To all those who know me my grandmother passed away two years ago this March.  Believe me she is truly missed.  Mainly she was the reason that I stayed in Maryland as long as I have.  So hopefully I will be leaving if all goes well either in July or August.

ZLOTNICK OPENS RETHINK TANK

NEW YORK—Jan Zlotnick, the writer and creative director who has headed such brands as “I Love NY,” Bacardi rum, Business Week magazine, BMW Motorcycles, and Timberline cologne, has started the ZlotnickGroup, a rethink tank for brand repositioning and creative.

“We rethink the way things work for dot-coms and traditional advertisers,” said the president and strategic/creative director of the ZlotnickGroup. “By doing a 360 on the marketplace, and then having genuine conversations with people, on their turf, we’re able to break down some walls and make deep, fast, emotional connections between the customer and brand.”

Zlotnick thinks the new E-commerce era, which he said curiously coincided with the millennium, will require “a shedding of the old skin” and “a new, counterintuitive rethinking of customers and their emotionally, spiritually, and data-wired connections to themselves, their worlds, and their brands.”

“It could be rethinking a brand’s strategy or creative campaign, jumpstarting a dot-com concept or a government or grassroots initiative on issues like high school drinking and violence.  Whatever our clients feel passionately about solving, we rethink it and, unlike traditional consultants, we do it,” said Zlotnick, an English and Semiotics major graduate of Brown who also studied in Chicago at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism and the School of Visual Arts in New York

Clients of the ZlotnickGroup are Standard & Poor’s; Avanti (Jones New York, Guess Leather); DovetailSys.com; Sterling Group Interactive, Hackensack University Medical Center, and Northbrook Spring Water.

Zlotnick has created award-winning campaigns for Guess Leather, Bertolli Olive Oil, “I Love New York,” Mars Inc, ILFORD Photo, Meadowlands Racetrack, Welsh Farms Ice Cream, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

P.S. After all these years, I now, finally, really know what a great sister I always had while growing up in Rockville... love you, Dorann.
