Occupation: Secretary, Federal Emergency Management Agency; Spouse: Don, Children: Heather Johnson - 24, Thom Brooks-21, Tara Loveland-13, Victoria Loveland-10, Grandchildren: Jacob Johnson - 6, Paige Johnson-5, Ethan Johnson-2

Memorable Incidents: Being involved in the productions of Man of La Mancha and Mame.  The hard work and fun that went into putting on those plays.  The way Mr. Gibbs read Of Mice and Men with all the characters voices---it was memorable.  Guys being allowed to participate in cooking classes when we were seniors---that was a major change.  The dress code!

Since High School: Attended Montgomery College for a year and then married to Steve Brooks (‘71) for 8 years & 2 kids.  Was a single mom for 4 years and married my husband 14 years ago.  Lived on a small farm in Emmitsburg, MD for 10 years raising horses, goats, dogs, cats and rabbits but my husbands health problems caused us to sell.  Have lived in Waynesboro, PA for 3 years.

Future Plans: Hope to move back to the Emmitsburg/Thurmont area of Frederick county next year (would love to have horses again).  Feel God is calling me into some kind of full-time ministry so I am exploring the possibilities.  Spending time enjoying my family and appreciating life!

Memorable Teachers: Mr. Gibbs for his wonderful English and Drama classes---he helped me appreciate the Arts.  Mr. Clarke—a great history teacher.

Dear Friends who I miss,

Does anyone know anything about Mike W, Ippy, or Amy?  I imagine Mike Wheeler cruising about in a big truck or maybe a big Cadilac with some cool tunes thumpin’.  Perhaps in Texas.

Ps  I assume they repainted the inside of Peary for the new school?

Memorable Teachers: Mr. Hill - for making math fun by throwing chalk at a student if they acted like a smart aleck. Mr. Gibbs - for being so particular. Mr. Clarke - for asking us if we were in the mood for a bonus question and we would have to answer loudly “YES SIR!” Mr. Travers - for inviting the class over to his house. Mr. Steele - for his stories and not getting upset if we broke a test tube and sang “Shattered.” Mrs.  Rosen - for her stories and drama in English class.

I know Sally Kadin would love to be invited to the class reunion even though she didn’t really graduate with us. She got her GED from Peary and would have been in our class if she would have gone our senior year.

Subject:  What happened to Karen Coleman?

I have recently (in the past few months) found out that Karen Coleman (1979) has passed away.  I have been upset ever since.  I had just located her thanks to the Peary HS web site and had been conversing with her via e-mail.  A few days later I read in the newsletter that she had passed away.  Does anybody have any information on this?  I really would like to know.  Please e-mail me.

Thanks,
Tammy Poole (Burnette)

Occupation: Mechanical Designer, Spouse: Maria Nicholson Bedenbaugh (1971), Maria’s Occupation: Human Resource Specialist, Children: Marcus Shock 16 and Lauren Bedenbaugh 11

Memorable Incidents: At wrestling practice (when I was in 10th grade) I got tied up in a double jock-lock by the upper classmen. I was then dragged out of the wrestling room into the gym where the cheerleaders were practicing. I was able to get myself out of that bind and used the experience in getting out of tight situations since then. Note: A double jock-lock is having your feet pulled behind you, wrapping the waistband over them, and having your shoe laces knotted together.

Since High School: Two years at Montgomery College.  Transferred and graduated from Frostburg State College.  Played soccer all four years of college and continued with amateur and semi-pro teams in Washington.  Was drafted by the Wahsington Diplomats in 1974.  I wasn’t signed but trained with them for about a 1 ½ yrs.  Travelled to England, Germany, and Jamaica with my club team.  Great sporting and cultural experiences.  In 1987, I participated in an Earthwatch expedition for glacier study in Norway.  Two weeks of camping below the glaciers and aiding in the collection of data for studying the climate and its impact on the cycle of glacier development. In January 1988, I married Maria Nicholson(71) and got a wonderful step-son (Marcus).  In December of that year, Lauren was born.  I am very happy and proud of my family. In 1994, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor.  It was a benign meningeoma. It was located behind my left eye, and wrapped around the nerves controlling the movement of the eye and wrapped around the internal carotid artery.  It took three surgeries to remove the tumor and do a bypass on the artery.  My wife Maria was a true love in helping me get through all of that. She was the key figure, but was not alone with the loving thoughts of my family and friends.  This really places the double jock-lock in its proper perspective.

Future Plans: Live with my family.

Memorable Teachers: Bob Pine and Ed Burlas.  My coaches for soccer and wrestling, who maintained the ethics of honesty, hard work, and team effort that I was taught by my parents.

Occupation: Insurance Broker, Spouse: Kathy Swisher Harris Kathy’s Occupation: Insurance Agent, Children: Kris 22 years old, Katie 20 years, old and Douglas 17 years old; Grandchildren: Not quite to this stage yet, married later in life

Memorable Incidents: I prefer to continue to protect the guilty and the innocent and keep the incidents to myself.  I do have many good memories of the high school years.

Since High School: Working my butt off to put two kids through college with a third on the way and trying to accumulate enough to retire before I am 85 years old.

Memorable Teacher: Mrs. Luck (my home room teacher) I saw her every day for four years while in school.  I remember my senior year and her asking me for a note from my parents to excuse the 20 some days I had actually skipped during my final year in high school.  I got one note for all the days and she accepted it and did not stand on my way for graduation.  I really thought a lot of her.
