I found out about the Peary website when it was just an idea and was
located on another server. Occupation: Computer Technician and future
MCSE. Unmarried as of now but.....

Memorable Incidents: Graduation year when we won almost ALL of the
championships in all events that year.

Since High School: About a year or so of college...then the military for
four glorious years, then just work...work...and more work.

Future Plans: To retire and to enjoy life more.

Memorable Teacher: Mr. Clarke...Never learned so much in one class and
had so much fun doing it. Congratulations Mr. Clarke, you left me with
quite an impression of how teachers SHOULD teach students.

Subject: Update

I just read the latest newsletter... always fun to do. Thought I'd put
in a "plug" for one of our 1966 alumni, Dave Spurlock. Remember him?
One of the original Bagpipers. Well, you can see him and his wife,
Carol, locally at the Maryland Renaissance Festival in Crownsville.
The festival runs every weekend through October 25th. His business, The
Brass Dragon, specializes in bronze dragon sculptures and jewelry.
He's even been asked to feature his works at Universal Studios in
Florida! He's also a Pipe Major in Cocoa Beach, Florida, continuing his
love for the pipes and teaching them as well.

Me? I'm doing fine, living in Annapolis, still working for The City of
Annapolis as an Exec. Sec., also a kitchen consultant for Pampered Chef,
and helping out at The Brass Dragon as much as I can. My kids, Dave
and Sean are 25 and 22 now. Dave is married with a 12-year-old
stepdaughter, and Sean is about to become a dad (due date of Oct. 20).
I guess that officially makes me a grandmother twice! Birth news to be
announced soon!

Subject: parents celebrate their 50th anniversary

Jacki Coberly (Class of '75) and Bobbie Servant Coberly (Class of '68)
surprised their parents, Barbara and Jeff Coberly, with a 50th
anniversary party. The biggest surprise was the party was held
September 11 and the folks' anniversary isn't until December 24!!
Family and friends from all over the country showed up to help the
folks celebrate. Congratulations - 50 years is definitely something to
celebrate. Barbara worked for Peary as the Secretary for the Counseling
Department in the mid 60's.

Subject: Hate Crimes Documentary about James Byrd, Jr.

I've just returned from the first of many planned trips to Texas for the
purpose of collecting footage for my documentary-in-progress about the
horrific murder of James Byrd, Jr.

Something quite magical (for me anyway) occurred in the cemetery while I
was videotaping the tombstone of James Byrd, Jr. At first, I set up the
camera and shot a medium-close up of the stone and just let tape roll
steady for about 15 seconds. Then I decided my next shot would be to
pull back all the way on the zoom and slowly zoom in on the gravestone,
and then end the shot with a steady lingering hold on his name and
epitaph. When I began the slow zoom-in I was feeling great because the
zoom control on the camera was moving just as I had hoped for under the
direction of my fingertips. This felt like the most perfect zoom I ever
shot in my life. Still zooming in, I began to hear distant church bells
chiming in my headphones. I was hearing clearly the traditional chiming
cycle a clock makes right before ringing out the individual chimes for
that particular hour of day. The clock chimed one solitary "Dong"
signifying the one o'clock hour at the exact moment I ended the zoom-in
on Byrd's engraved name in stone. I will know later in the editing
process where this footage will be placed, but I am certain it's use
will be significant to the piece. I am sad to report that numerous
violent hate crime deaths and tragedies have occurred in the United
States since this production began. I will pay tribute to hate crimes
victims and their survivors during a special memorial segment of this
program.

Last year, I produced, directed and shot my first documentary, "We're
Here To Stay" about the history of Hands Off Washington and the Politics
of Hate in Washington State. I produced a short video on Hands Off
Washington entitled Heroes Are Everywhere, for Hands Off Washington's
annual breakfast in 1996; executive director, producer and host for the
cable television series Seattle Commons - It's a Park; and programmed a
weekly television series for the Seattle Public Schools Instructional
Broadcast Center. In addition, I worked for the acclaimed Seattle
Weekly and was a former legislative aide to King County Councilmember
Maggi Fimia.

"An accomplished pianist, she holds a BS in Radio, Television, and Film
from the University of Maryland. Latham's past community/political
activities include a term as Board President of Seattle's Lesbian
Resource Center, Commissioner with the Seattle Commission for Lesbians
and Gays and Precinct Committee Officer in Seattle's "eclectic" 43rd
District. Latham has been campaign worker for Seattle City Councilmember
Jan Drago, Seattle Mayor Norm Rice, and the Past King County Executive
campaign of present Washington State Governor Gary Locke. She is also a
past board member of Hands Off Washington. She has organized numerous
large events and is most proud of her "standing room only" 1995
Washington State Democratic Annual Banquet featuring the former Governor
of Texas, Ann Richards."

Please give me a call at (206) 782-8220 or by email at:
lizardproductions@msn.com if you have any questions regarding this
documentary. Thank you!
