Subject:  Loss of my sister

My sister, Linda (Lynn) was tragically taken home to join her other sister Rachel and our dad on March 27, 2000.  Lynn attended Peary for her Freshman and Sophomore years.  My brother, Art Ridgway graduated from Peary in 1966 and I in 1968. In 1968 after I graduated, dad was transferred to up-state New York.  However, lynn had many friends when we lived in Maryland.  Sadly, the person who took her life also took the life of a beautiful mother of three teenagers.  Lynn was a Ballroom Dance instructor at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA and conducted tours of Colonial Williamsburg.  Over the years, she competed in many ballroom dance competitions and held numerous trophies.

Since Art and I have experienced the loss of our two baby sisters (Rachel was killed in February 1980), the message to one and all becomes more prolific, love one another, be kind as no man knows what tomorrow might bring.  If anyone from the Class of 1970 might know where or how to contact Rick Anderson or Jim Wyman, please let me know as these two fine men were friends of Lynn’s while at Peary.  Rick Anderson also had a brother John in the class of 1966 if anyone knows how to contact him, that too would be helpful.

Memorable Teacher: Mr. Robert Clarke - History facts that stick in my mind today are a direct result of Mr. Clarke’s effective style of teaching.  He had a great sense of humor and treated each student with respect.  He was very involved with the school, for example, he was active in the Red Cross blood drives and I was always very impressed that he played the bagpipes!  There are other teachers that I remember well, but Mr. Clarke was very influencial and a very special teacher.

Occupation: Property Management/Accounting, Spouse: Ray

Memorable Incidents: What stands out in my mind is that we all knew each other or at least we could put names to faces. Not only for our class but the classes before and after.

Since High School: I have been pursuing the “American Dream”. I’ve got the loving husband, a house (built with our own blood, sweat and tears), two cats and a dog. No kids yet.

Future Plans: In about 30 years, my husband and I would like to travel the US of A in a motor coach. Of course, that is only one of several things we would like to do. The way I see it is that your future can change with each passing day. It may be something you have done yourself or by a complete stranger.

Memorable Teacher: The faculty member that I remember best is Mr. Hill.  As to why I remember him most is, well, if you had Mr. Hill as a teacher you will know what I mean. Mr. Hill just had a way with his students.

I am very happy that kids are again walking the halls of Peary. My sister and three of my cousins graduated from Peary. The school has been a part of my family. When my friends and I remember our days at Peary, our husbands say, “here we go again”. They just do not understand what it is about the school. This may sound stupid but Peary High School is not only a place, it’s a state of mind.

Memorable Teachers: Sally Dunlop, for believing in, nurturing, and pushing me to be the best that I could be....when nobody else would.  She helped me realize that I was MUCH more talented and brighter (& literate) than I had ever given myself credit for.  Gave me an inkling of my potential.  And taught me English (heaven forbid!) could even be FUN!  The first time I could actually speak in front of people without dying ( in Public Speaking classes my senior year). I gained a lot of confidence.  Helped change my life, in however a small way.... James (Jim) Courtney-Electricity and electronics teacher-for making it wild and fun, as well as being a damn good teacher! There are others too...but as I’ve lost my yearbook I will need to refresh my memory on them.

Other alums I know about? Steven Vance...is in the Philadelpia suburban area-perhaps not in the city.... John Fitzpatrick, the last I knew was in the San Diego Area, with a wife-Susan, and 2 children.  (this was 15 to 20 years ago.)
