INTRODUCTION Greetings
Huskies: HOMECOMING
2000,
sponsored by the Robert E. Peary Alumni Association, is less than three
weeks away! Come and show
your support of the Aspen Hill community by welcoming the Hebrew Academy
of Greater Washington, who has refurbished our alma mater after it sat
empty and deteriorated for almost 14 years.
Witness the Rededication of the Bell Tower during the Opening
Ceremony and enjoy all of the activities of the 3-day event beginning June
16 at 3pm. There are travel
and lodging discounts available for those around the country who are
planning to attend. There
are also many volunteers still needed to help make the event a success.
General Admission is only $5/day ($2.50/day for Alumni Association
members), plus the ticket price for the Platters and Marvelettes Concert
in the auditorium Saturday evening has been lowered to $30 a seat!
For all the details, visit the REPHSAA’s website at www.pearyalum.org,
or contact any of the Executive Committee members: Neal Pizzano (1976) at npizzano@erols.com,
Terry Brooks (1969) at terry-b@worldnet.att.net,
or Barbara Dentz Riley at timm@erols.com! Specific
contacts for some of the volunteer information can also be found at the
website. Volunteers will gain
free admittance on the day they work, in return for their generous
assistance. Thanks
to the many local company and corporate sponsors who have donated money
and services to make this event the largest that Aspen Hill will have ever
experienced! CONDOLENCES:
Please include these alumni/families in your prayers: Alan
Stovitz’s (1966) mother passed away on Tuesday May 3, 2000.
(Alan’s sister Dale McNally may also be a Peary alum.)
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the
House of Ruth in Washington, DC. To
the Price family and Peary alums Julie (1973), Sharon (1974), Dan (1976),
Eileen (1977), Tim (1979), and Carolyn (1980), we extend our thoughts to
you at this difficult time on the passing of your father, Bill, on May 4,
2000. We
are deeply saddened to inform you all that Terry Mae Ellison, Class of
1973, passed away on April 24 2000. Terry
had cancer. MR.
CLARKE’S RETIREMENT:
Don’t forget to submit items for Mr. Clarke’s memory book!
The deadline for submissions of materials is May 30th.
Details are posted on the website in the Staff Information Section. REUNIONS:
The latest info can be found on the MSO website.
Classes of 1963-65’s celebration begins August 11 (3-days of
activity), Class of 1970’s on July 29, Class of 1975’s on August 5,
and 1980’s August 19-20. Get your reservations in and check the “missing persons”
lists online. The
Classes of 1963-65 want you to get your form and payment in soon... beginning July 1 you will have to pay full price.
Plus, they are still accepting ads for their reunion booklet.
Deadline is June 30th.
Contact Gale Senseman Privette at gale7@juno.com
if you would like to place an ad in the booklet. CLASSES
OF 1976 and 1977:
Joint 25-Year Reunion in Las Vegas.
The informal poll has steadied-out at 79% YEA and 21% NAY.
Most of those who like the idea wish to combine it with the
discounted fares and lodging into a vacation their entire family can
enjoy, with side trips to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam and such.
Those who are against the notion feel the reunion should take place
where it all happened, in Rockville.
Pluses.... additional organized class activities all week for
classmates while in Vegas. Some
feel it’s a good excuse for a vacation and not having to go back to work
Monday morning.... as those folks who don’t live in the DC area have
done for previous celebrations. Other
concerns brought-up have been the differing school schedules around the
country... some districts are year-round plans, some traditional, some
modified.... there is no “ideal” period of the year to shoot for.
There will always be some who cannot attend, wherever it’s held,
due to schedule conflicts, unfortunately.
Holidays are out, as group discounts will not apply. Some
alumni from other graduating years have expressed an interest as well, to
take advantage of the discounts. Some
discussions about opening-up (at least the travel/accommodations) to other
alums have been going on, and several have offered assistance in planning. If we
haven’t heard from you yet, ‘76 and ‘77 classmates, let us know your
thoughts, especially organizers of the 20-Year reunions.
No decisions have been made... would just like to hear your
comments if you haven’t sent your opinion in yet.
Planning for this event, tentatively fall 2001 or winter 2001-2002
would have to begin very soon! Thanks
for your input. This
is the last issue of the MSO before Homecoming 2000.
As much as I wanted to attend the festivities myself, I already had
a prior commitment out on this coast, but I’ll be there in spirit, most
definitely. Have a wonderful
time.... we look forward to some great news items about the celebration in
the June 2000 issue! The
deadline for the next issue of the Midnight Sun Online is Saturday June
24. Use the “Submit an
Article” button on the website to let your classmates know what you’ve
been up to! And thank you for
your continued financial support of this project.
It would not be possible, otherwise. Bob
Lau, Editor/Webmaster P.S.
Thanks to all who inquired about the townhouse in Germantown, MD. | Back to the Newsletter Selections |
