From: Michael Thorpe mthorpe@aspensys.com (1980) Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 Subject: Update

How I found out about the website? Renee Dutton-O'Hara emailed me the information. Also Allyson Smith sent it to me. Occupation: Senior Project Control Analyst for Aspen Systems Corp.

Memorable Incidents: All of the plays and variety shows we did (which took up so much of my time). The Senior Prom. That dance we had for the seniors. I forget what it was called.

Since High School: GOOD LORD!! I went to college (and graduated), moved to New York City and lived there for five years and worked at PolyGram Records while there (it was great!), then I moved to California for a year before coming home to Maryland, a state I'll always love [MD]. I traveled the country twice. I've really had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends. I've worked and worked and worked. I've spent and spent and spent. I bought a house. I own two dogs. Basically, I've done whatever I wanted to do and I've had a lot of fun doing it. Now I am settling down a little more (for the time being). We'll see...

Future Plans: To get richer and happier!

Memorable Teachers: Mr. Gibbs, of course, for his devotion to the Drama Department, for all those great plays, for being an interesting person, etc., etc. Ms. Vadala, of course, for all of her devotion to the Drama Department right along side Mr. Gibbs. She too was a friend and a lot of fun. Mrs. Rosen: I remember her for a phrase she always used to say. Was it, "WRONG!"?? Now I suddenly forget it. Anyway, she was down to earth and fun.

I still have some of my old friends from high school. They know who they are and I love them dearly!! And to Mr. Gibbs and the rest of the 1977 to 1980 Drama Dept., thanks for the many memories. I cherish them. And to the entire class of 1980: We were so young, weren't we? Who knew?! Let's keep kicking the stuffing out of life!

From: Paula Martin Beckett paulenska@hotmail.com (1982) Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 Subject: Update

I found out about the website using the hotbot search engine. Occupation: Student at UNC at Chapel Hill, Spouse: Thomas

Memorable Incidents: I was a member of the 'Rowdies.' The parties at Linda's house were lots of fun. Also, my year in Argentina with AFS.

Since High School: After graduation I went to Montgomery College and then transferred to U. of Maryland. I studied biochemistry. During my twenties I lived in Friendship Heights DC in a group house. I had my own little company called 'IntelQuest' doing scientific patent and literature searches for biotech companies in the area. I met my husband and best friend, Thomas at a party in DC in '92. We got married 6 months later and it has been wonderful ever since. We moved to Chapel Hill, NC in 1993. In 1994 I was diagnosed with cancer, non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I went through treatment for most of that year and gained remission in the fall — thanks to God. In the fall of this year, when I reach the 5 year mark, I will be considered cured—and I am looking forward to that. Currently, I feel that I am in better shape than before the diagnosis. I have returned to school and am doing research at Lineberger Cancer Research Center here at UNC. I am working on banishing lymphomas and CNS cancers. Thomas and I have 2 cats, like children to us, and we have a very extensive garden—we both esp. love Japanese garden plants and design. We also like to travel, and cook for friends.

Future Plans: We would like to build a house this year — but that's just a dream right now. We also want to have children.

Memorable Teachers: Mr. Gibbs: I remember him as being very creative and interestingly eccentric. Mrs. Luck: Her sense of humor. She let us know up front that it would be futile to complain about the way she treated us since she was retiring soon—so she could do with us what she wanted! I wore an anklet one day and she kept me after class to tell me that only 'Jezebel's' wore anklets and did my mother know about it? Of course, I didn't tell her that my mom gave me the anklet! She meant well i'm sure!

I would love to hear from 'ole friends - so please do email me!

Memorable Incidents: I was scheduled to graduate from Peary in 1975. However, due to my behavior I was expelled and finished my last three months at Rockville H.S.

Since High School: Earning my doctoral degree from Seminary and pastoring various churches in the South. We recently began a brand new church (Christ Community Church) in Grenada, Mississippi.

From: Neal Pizzano npizzano@erols.com (1976) Date: April 1999 Subject: Update on the Robert E. Peary High School Alumni Association

We are about to tread on virgin ground. We are about to forge ahead with a plan that promises to be exciting and rewarding. We are just about ready to ask all of you to join us in the building of a permanent organization that will not only link us together, but bond us together.

Final preparations are being made to start the membership drive. We are targeting mid-June right now. Once getting members on board, we want some of you to join us in the planning of Alumni Activities and assisting us with making it all happen.

I don't want to give everything away as we are still working on some details with some other folks and organizations on upcoming events, but I can tell you some of it deals with our old school building. Some of it includes political and media attendees, too. We are talking BIG TIME Fun, here. So keep watching for more details on the realization of the RE Peary Alumni Association.
