Page 2 From: Seth Jason seth.jason@mailcity.com (1979) Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1999 Subject: quick update and a note Thank you again for this newsletter... I look forward to it more than my Washington Post. I run into Ricky McKinney ('80) from time to time while working at the White House...He and family are doing well... Those of us might remember the original "Cellar Door" in Georgetown...Well it blossomed into the Cellar Door's Company and grew... Anyway...the Part Owner, Dave Williams passed away last Wednesday from cancer. Though not a Peary Alumni, some of us and even our parents have gone there....History is that Dave was the first Bouncer/Doorman at the Cellar Door. Anyway...thanks again for all your work. Best wishes for 1999... Seth Jason 79' ********** From: Jeffrey A. I had spoken with Gay Laurienzo San Severino (79) today and she informed me that the treatment went well, with some side effects which were expected. Please keep this family in your prayers. They have been most appreciative of your kindnesses. ********** From: Phyllis Magrab magrabp@gunet.georgetown.edu (Staff) Date: Mon, 01 Feb 1999 Subject: Midnight Sun Online It is wonderful to reconnect to many wonderful memories as an English teacher at Peary High School from 1963 to 1965. So much of what I have valued in life has come from that experience. I treasure the the sharing and the learning that I was so privileged to be a part of. Very few years separated me from my students then and I was always amazed at how easily they accepted my role as teacher and how open so much of our communication was. One of my closest friends over the years has been one of my students. Today, I am a Professor of Pediatrics and a child psychologist at Georgetown University Medical School. I have the honor to work on national health policy and travel in very high powered circles-but the best of my career I still think of as a teacher at Peary High School. I wanted to let all our former classmates know that over the last year and half we lost both our parents. Our Dad suddenly died 4/1/97 from a heartattack and our mom died 9/7/98 from complications related to emphysema. As everyone can imagine it has been very difficult for us, but time is a healer and they are both in a better place. ********** From: Tim Barrett woodworld@erols.com (1980) Date: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 Subject: Update I found out about the website from my brothers Tom & Mike. In 1997 I bought Wood World in Rockville, a specialty woodworking retail store that sells lumber, tools, equipment, finishing supplies, hardware, etc. and in 1998 started a school of fine woodworking which teaches woodwork and furniture making. Also in 1998 I got married to the most wonderful girl in the world, Jennifer Kay Gillispie. Future Plans: Continue the expansion of Wood World, possibly in other locations, and expand the school of fine woodworking to include more and more classes. I am married to Ron, a systems analyst, and we have two children, Nicole, 16, and Elliot, 10. Occupation: Clinical Psychologist. Memories: I only attended 9th grade and was sent to Rockville High to graduate. At Peary I remember the teacher's strike, the talent show, lunch, and some friends I had for a long time after graduation. Since high school, I was married at 21 for four years, no children, and we moved to California, where we got divorced. I lived at Lake Tahoe for 8 years, working as a blackjack and roulette dealer and attending college part-time, while skiing, hiking, sailing, and partying. Finally, my current husband and I had our first child and I finished my AA at Lake Tahoe Community College. We then moved to San Diego where I got my bachelors in psychology. From there we moved to Ft. Lauderdale so I could obtain my doctorate in psychology, while my husband became a systems analyst. We had our second child during graduate school, and life was very busy. We returned to California for my internship and have lived in northern California ever since. Our daughter graduates from high school next year and we may make a move to San Diego with our son at that time. He is a star hockey player and played at the Nationals in Chicago this summer. Our daughter was in the Junior Olympics and the Nationals several times for competitive jump rope. She is beginning modeling this month. Our son has also been solicited to model. We look forward to a little less hectic lifestyle once the children are older, as they have kept us running. We often travel back to Maryland where I still have family. I would love to hear from Debbie Kennedy (1971), and it was fun to read Maria Baltrikonis' updatehi Maria! |
