MYSELF AND SEVERAL OTHERS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PLANNING AND WORKING OUT THE DETAILS. I RECENTLY SENT A EMAIL TO THOSE LISTED UNDER THE CLASS OF '79 BUT I DID GET A LOT OF RETURNED MAIL. IF YOU DIDN'T RECEIVE THE MESSAGE, ALL I WAS LOOKING FOR WAS YOUR SUGGESTIONS REGARDING THE DATE(S), IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A BANQUET HALL, KNOW ANYONE WHO DOES DESKTOP PUBLISHING, PHOTOGRAPHY, ETC. ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HELP WITH THE COST OF THE EVENT AND MAKE IT MORE MEMORABLE. I WOULD LIKE TO MEET WITH "THE REUNION COMPANY" IN THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET THINGS GOING. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING ON THE COMMITTEE OR CAN HELP IN ANYWAY, LET ME KNOW. WE ARE ALSO PLANNING ON DOING AN INFORMAL GET TOGETHER ON THAT FRIDAY AND A FAMILY PICNIC ON THAT SUNDAY OF THE WEEKEND WE PICK. THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A SMALL FEE FOR THE PICNIC, AROUND $10.00 PER FAMILY TO COVER THE PAVILLION COST, PURCHASE MUNCHIES, CONDIMENTS, CHARCOAL, ETC. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT WE EACH DONATE A SMALL AMOUNT ($1.00 -$10.00) TO SUPPORT THE WEB PAGE. IF IT WASN'T FOR BOB LAU, WE WOULDN'T EVEN BE READING THIS. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME OR YOU MAY CONTACT ME ON #301/540-6855. REGARDS, MARY HECKHAUS ********** From: Carol Cotton Hendrix carolh@gateway.net (1964) Date: Thu, 14 Jan 1999 Subject: To 1964 Classmates On January 11, 1999 I sent a letter out to approximately 140 classmates who have not as yet found the MSO and registered with us. I told them about our planned reunion in 2000 with the classes of 1963 and 1965. As a result of that mailing I am beginning to get some responses. Unfortunately, some of the news I have received is not good news. I am sorry to report that I just learned that our classmate, Albert H. "Buddy" Saunders died on January 20, 1996 from complications resulting from Parkinson's Disease. I learned that Buddy spent a good portion of his time after graduation devoted to helping others and was especially interested in helping youth. A foundation was established in his and his parents' names to further youth causes. The name of the foundation is the Alberts H. and Constance Saunders Foundation. This foundation supports several youth causes but primarily it funds an organization called Youth Leaders International which has chapters all over the world. Youth Leaders International started in December 1996 as a dying wish of Buddy. Buddy left some money and two houses (one in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and one in Rockville) for use by the organization. Anyone who is interested can visit their web site at "www.leaders.org". Anyone who would like to make a donation to this organization in memory of Buddy can send the donation to the director, Daniel Frederick at 4429 Faroe Place, Rockville, MD 20853. ********** From: Arlene Boles Jones jonesf@erols.com (1964) Date: Thu, 14 Jan 1999 Subject: Update Occupation: English Teacher, Spouse: Fred, Children: Jennifer, Mike and Chris (twins, freshmen at U of MD), Grandchildren: Christopher 3 Memorable Teachers: Mrs. Blazek she inspired me to become an English Teacher Other alums I know about? I would like to announce the birth of my first born and the newest addition into The Husky Pups Club, Joshua Paul Reyer!!! He was born 01/12/99 at 11:13 am at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. He weighed 8 lbs 2 oz and was 20 3/4 inches long. He was two weeks early and Marj (my wife) was in labor for 11 hours (yes, I said 11 hours!!!), with her pushing for only 1 hour!!!. He developed Apnea (a condition where Joshua stops breathing for a short period) within two hours of birth and was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). His full head of light blond hair, his dark blue eyes and his mild temperament made him a hit with all his nurses (breaking hearts already, that's my boy!). He was released on Saturday 01/16/99 with an Apnea Monitor and has not had an episode since. We hope that Joshua will only need the monitor for a short time. Tim Reyer, Class of '85 |
