Seasons Greetings Huskies! Apologies for the distribution delay with this month's issue. Here at the MSO, we also need to take a break from the action occasionally maybe for not as long as we'd like or where we would like to be, but a "break" nonetheless! Belated Season's Greetings to all. GET WELL SOON: Continued prayers for quick recoveries to Mrs. Leimbach, who recently suffered a stroke and seizure, and to Mrs. Sharron Laurienzo who has been diagnosed with cancer. Both are the moms of several Peary graduates. MSO STATUS: Those who have visited the website lately know that we successfully met our goal of breaking even by the deadline of the end of December! In fact, it happened at the beginning of the month thanks to your generous and overwhelming support. Thank you, thank you. We are actually good through March 1999 as of this writing. At that time we'll also be holding a fund-raising event to be held at The Magic Cue in Germantown on March 20th with The Jack Diamond (1972) and Jim Steed Band performing. More details coming soon and they will be posted online. There is a committee already formed that met recently for preliminary planning, and will be meeting again January 27 (7:30 at the Cue) if you're interested in helping out. Contact Melissa Davis Strosnider at melissa_strosnider@discovery.com to be a part of it! This clearly doesn't mean we don't need continued support! Hopefully it'll be possible to ensure the future of this project... let's please keep it going for all of 1999. To date, we've gotten support responses from less than 20% of all alumni listed on the site, and we're hoping the other 80% is giving consideration to help support it. Special thanks go to the Staff Alumni who made a generous group contribution. Ther are some other ideas in the works, including company and/or services listings of alums it's a good way to promote yourself and your business to other alums. We have heard your suggestions, such as making the Peary website a paid subscription site, but are exploring other avenues first to avoid that. Again, thanks to all of you who have generously sent donations to support this project. We hope to hear from the rest of you soon so that we can be assured of our survival of the only central location we can gather to keep informed of what's happening in your class. There are now over 1,900 alums online here. ATLANTIC CITY: Make your reservations now for the Spring Fling in Atlantic City the weekend of April 9, 1999! All the details are posted online. Contact event coordinator Robin Rosenberg Aiscowitz (1979) for more information and to sign-up. Robin will be handling payments and reservations for this event. Note to Class of 1979... to-date, there are no known plans for a 20-year reunion... plan to attend this event to gather with your classmates! THE BUILDING: As many of you know, Steve Steinberg (1983) and John Gage, Assistant Supervisor of Building Reconstruction, have been keeping us posted on the progress of our building, and Mr. Gage has provided photos of the progress (posted online). Thanks to Dr. Dunn, Mr. Burlas, Mr. Horvat, and others who have provided information about our mascots too apparently, our original mascot, King II was cremated and the ashes scattered over the athletic field at some point. It's assumed that these are the ashes that were retrieved from the time capsule stored in the bell tower. However, it's still up-in-the-air about King III (who died in 1975) who is believed to be buried in the Senior Courtyard still we need to confirm this info and, if so, exactly WHERE. The contractors for the building would like to know, for obvious reasons. If you have additional information, please contact me ASAP. CUPID: Watch for an upcoming episode of Cupid (ABC Saturday nights), starring Paula Marshall (1982), titled "Bachlorette" and listen/watch for Paula's reference to PEARY HIGH SCHOOL! Check your TV guides the episode will probably air in January. VOLUNTEER: A couple of classmates and former staff members suggested compiling all of the comments written in issues of the newsletter about students' memorable and favorite teachers. It's a lot of work. The text would be compiled and printed and given to those staff members. It is underway, thanks to Anne Lietzan Sanders (1978) who volunteered her time and resources to make this happen! She'll be going through our past 27 issues of the newsletter and compiling these comments for presentation to our mentors. Again, thanks for your patience during this brief distribution delay. All of you who submitted articles and updates after December 25th.... your submissions will be included in January's edition. Articles for the next issue of the Midnight Sun Online are due Saturday January 23rd. Submit your articles and news items directly online when you visit the home page. Please have a safe and happy new year as 1999 gets underway, whether you celebrate it at home, on a ski slope, or on a tropical island!
