From: Craig Sterling csterling@erols.com (1982) Date: Wed, 9 Dec 1998 Subject: Update

I found out about the website from another Peary alum while managing a local business. Occupation: Museum Specialist, Spouse: Mary Ann

Memorable Incidents: Peary is the base of many terrific memories. Many of which were friends on the gymnastics and diving teams~ spending countless hours practicing and encouraging each other to more difficult tricks. I also have fond memories of yearbook staff and Blue & White Club functions and service.

Since High School: After graduating from Peary I spent the next five years at Frostburg State studying Music Education: Piano and Vocal Performance. I tried to keep up with the gymnastics and continued to teach for Montgomery County Recreation Department during the summers. Two weeks before my senior piano recital I broke my wrist in a demonstration vault for the parents of my students - some things never seem to change!

Upon graduating from Frostburg, I spent a year working for the Montgomery County Government while I waited for my fiance to graduate from the University of Maryland. Two weeks after Mary Ann graduated, we were married and then moved to Louisville, KY where I attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. We stayed in Kentucky for just over two years and then moved back to Maryland where I took a teaching position at Parkland Middle School. There I taught general/choral music, unified arts, drama, and co-taught algebra. I had a terrific time with a great staff. It was also during this time that I began to work part- time for friends who had opened an art & framing gallery in Germantown. It wasn't long before I was hooked. Soon I left teaching to work full time in the art & framing field. During this time I studied witht the Professional Picture Framers Association and became a Certified Picture Framer. (Sounds easy, but believe it or not Educational Testing Service of NJ administers a three hour framing exam. It ranked right up there with the SATs, GREs and the NTEs!) At Phillips Art & Framing I had the pleasure to meet and serve several Peary alum. It was so good to see so many former classmates!

In August of this year, Phillips closed and I again was on yet another job search. I had been serving on the board of directors for the NCC chapter of the PPFA. From several good leads, I was able to obtain a job working as a Museum Specialist for the U.S. Art Bank Program, U.S. Dept. of State.

My wife and I continue to be very active in our church and look forward to seeing former classmates whenever possible.

Future Plans: Mary Ann and I hope to one day have children and eventually move to the Cumberland area.

Memorable Teachers: I remember two faculty members the most. First would be Mr. Hill. He recognized my abilities and encouraged myself and others to truly be the best we could be. He was an inspiration to me and so many others. Second, I remember Mrs. Whitaker. She not only was a terrific gymnastics teacher, but also a person who genuinely cared about her gymnasts. She helped me during some rough years at home and kept me busy taking three periods of gymnastics.

Other alums I know about: My brother, Chris, Class of '80, is married with three "kids" 18, 16 & 15, owns a business and resides in Homosassa, Florida. My brother, Chuck, Class of '63, is married with three "cats", lives in Stafford, VA, and works in Rockville.

From: Bob Lau blau@clark.net (1976) Date: Fri, 25 Dec 1998 Subject: Update

I found out about the website from myself, since it was intitated by me in 1996. Duh.

Most of you know I relocated to Las Vegas, just by the fact that the Midnight Sun Online offices moved with me. Thank goodness for the internet and Clark Internet Services (www.clark.net — if you're seeking a reliable ISP with excellent support)!

Since High School: Bachelor's from UMCP in 1981, Master's from UMCP in 1995. Various employment... 3 years as a "DJ" type with a radio reading service for the blind and handicapped, 10 years of directing and editing industrial training video productions, work with the U.S. Holocaust Museum (DC) and U.S. West on a Utah Schools Shakespeare project, Distance Education Telecommunications work with UM University College, freelance with The Department of Commerce, and continued video editing. Throughout all this, of course, becoming a computer weenie.

More recently, now a 100% "do-it-yourselfer," continue to perform online work for various companies, and occasional acting work still (most recently some movies, casino commercials, and a series of Snap.com commercials for NBC). Hoping Homicide will call this season when they write my character in again (Process Server) — casting promised to call when that happens, and it'll be a good excuse to visit back East.

Also plugging away with a new venture here in Vegas with Lynn Sterling (1977) to promote the tremendous talent base in this glittery "sin" city, working with the Nevada Film Office and other various avenues and organizations. Continue serving on professional organization exec committees and we have, or will be, attending some noteworthy conferences in an attempt to keep up with the technology (NAB, Comdex, ProMax, and CES). I enjoy corresponding with each and everyone of you on a daily basis — and will see about making it back for the fundraiser in March. Happy 1999 to Huskies and Huskiettes!
