From: Ron Work ronwork@erols.com Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 Subject: Sherry Steiner-Schenck's Leukemia Society Fund Raising

On behalf of Sherry Steiner-Schenck (1970), I would like to thank all of the alums who generously contributed to the Leukemia Society on her and her husband Richard's behalf. She was able to raise over $4500, qualifying her to participate on a race-walking team in Hawaii and left on Dec 10th to participate in a marathon there. The 25-inch tv that was donated by Wal-Mart for a raffle, was won by a young man from Northern Virginia who immediately gave it back to her so it could be raffled again to raise additional funds for Leukemia. An extra benefit from her training is that she has lost 26 lbs and now fits into her wedding dress again. Richard is still responding well to treatment so please keep your fingers crossed for both of them. Anyone fighting a chronic disease knows the battle never ends.

Thanks again,

Ron

If any of the 1983 alumni or anyone for that matter, needs any type of typing done, just go to my website and then either email me or page me. It would be a help to my business. Bye for now you all :)

Date: Wed, 9 Dec 1998 From: Paul Bo Kim Pkim@compuserve.com (1979) Subject: Update

My thanks to Bob Lau and Neal Pizzano for keeping us all together—so to speak. It's good to know that despite the lack of a building as a focus point that the spirit of Peary High School continues to live on. My life since Peary High School has taken many twists and turns.

I went to Columbia University in New York then to Duke Medical School. From there I entered active duty in the Navy and became a flight surgeon just so I can get a leather jacket like Tom Cruise in "Top Gun". Becoming a flight surgeon was the only way I could fly in the Navy because of my poor vision. I saw action in the Persian Gulf and had my ship blown up from underneath me. I kept thinking my contract didn't call for this—or did it? After five years in the Navy in which I was nearly court martialed for conspiracy to mutiney, I went to the University of Virginia and resumed my training in internal medicine and critical care. Where upon, I nearly died from contracting hepatitis from a dirty needle stick.

I'm happy to say I'm cured now after over a year and a half of experimental therapy. I'm now settled in Charlotte, North Carolina as an critical care specialist (I take care of patients in the intensive care unit) and hoping to live a calm life. Greetings to all my class of 79 fellow classmates.
