INTRODUCTION Greetings Huskies: ERRATA (again): Apologies to the Class of '67. It's taken a couple months to get the facts straight, but both 1966 and 1967 did the full 6-year stint, 7th-12th grade at Peary! CONDOLENCES: Our condolences to the Perry and Bedenbaugh families. Benjamin Perry passed away June 27, 1999 after a struggle with Parkinsons disease. He is the father of Linda Perry (71) and Kathy Perry Franceschini (73). He is the uncle of Bill Bedenbaugh (70), Bob Bedenbaugh (73), and Frank Wollard. And our condolences to the Baker family. George "Jeff" Baker passed away at his home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. He was the father of six Peary classmates: Chris, Brian, Steve, Mark, Betsy and Tracy We're sad to inform you that Karen Coleman Wiltshire (1979) passed away April 23, 1999 - Details are unknown MEMORIALS ON THE WEBSITE: The Memorial Section on MSO was started as an "as we got info" basis. Since, we have gotten numerous responses regarding "what about so-and-so from the class of 19xx?" -- we'll be more than happy to continue post this kind of information. However, most of those currently on the site were either submitted by family members and/or close friends and included an obituary or personal write-up by the submitter, along with a recent photo where obtainable -- otherwise the Senior photo was posted. Submissions such as "please post John Doe from the class of 19xx in the Memorial section" is certainly not a true, respectful memorial to those classmates we've lost. Also note that some of the surviving families need to be aware of this and permission secured before posting -- some families do not wish to make the information available. Maybe this can be an on-going future project of MSO -- any thoughts and volunteers are welcome. Included in this potential "project" may be a section devoted to veterans who fought in the Viet Nam War and Desert Storm who died in service to their country. 1977 40th BIRTHDAY FIELD PARTY: A reminder that the Class of 1977 will be sponsoring a field party FOR ALL PEARY ALUMS on Saturday August 28th at Libertytown Fairgrounds, Noon til .... Bring the Kids. Live Music with "Classified," Horseshoes, Volleyball, Fun & Relaxing. BYOB (Snack Bar on-site open for food), $15 per person or $25 for family (to cover Band and site). ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: Log on to the MSO website to learn more about the Robert E. Peary High School Alumni Association and to print the application form. For further information, contact Neal Pizzano at npizzano@erols.com. ALUMS IN THE NEWS: It's always great to see alums and hear about their successes in life! Congrats to Seth Jason (1979) whose production credits were seen on "A Capitol Fourth" on your local PBS station. And, as always, to Paula Marshall (1982), who is starring in the new ABC series "Snoops" this fall on Sunday nights. REUNIONS: The latest information available can be found online for the classes of 1969, 1974, 1979, and 1984. Planning continues for the joint 1963-65 reunion in 2000 -- please help the committees track-down "missing persons." The Classes of 1963-65 wish to thank Gale Senseman Privette (1966) for her valuable assistance in planning for the 63-65 bash, and all those from the three classes who have been volunteering their time to be a part of this 3-Class Bash in 2000! The Class of 1974 Reunion is being held this weekend. Have fun! CLASS WEBSITE: The Class of 1970 has secured its own domain! Thank you to the Class of '70 alums who are assisting in making this a reality and, certainly, to Ruth Kaneshiro Fujita and Steve Banks for accomplishing this! All further funding for this endeavor will be held in reserve for Grant Gursky's costs for your 30-year Reunion. Further details and the URL (and the MSO links) will be announced when the site is up and running. SPAMMING: As most of you are aware, the MSO has posted policies regarding the exclusive use of posted e-mail address listings by former Peary staff and all alumni. Additionally, built-in safeguards "were" incorporated into our listings -- and then removed because it became an inconvenience to some alums (i.e. it didn't work) with older browsers and e-mail programs. As a result of this safeguard removal, a SPAM program got through and some, if not all, of you received a recent solicitation from a teaminfo@mail.9netave.com -- this spammer has been caught and is being heavily fined via the offender's host. For every complaint received, the person will be charged $1. Since there are over 2,000 Peary alums aboard who possibly received this spam, you're invited to forward the message (WITH the FULL headers -- the routing info) to security@9netave .com if you'd like to make a statement and to thwart this kind of activity. Our apologies for the inconvenience -- it is the MSO's fault for removing these safeguards due to some alumni complaints that they couldn't "click on a link" to send mail to fellow classmates. Needless to say, the MSO has reimplemented various techniques to avoid this forevermore... for those with older browsers/e-mail programs -- you will simply need to learn how to cut-and-paste an e-mail address or manually (oh gosh) type it in. Thank you to those alumni who made us aware of this recent spam -- MSO has, and will continue to, make every effort to put an end to this kind of activity -- and wishes to thank Dean Peters (1977) for his assistance in our efforts. FYI, those who find the Peary site and the e-mail listings have been adhering to our policy. The "problem" resulted from "SPAMbots" -- programs capable of swiping e-mail addresses from the Internet -- SPAMbots cannot read. The MSO would like you to know that this is a one-time instance, that the offender has been caught, and that the information cannot be sold or distributed. MSO will ensure your privacy and put an end to any kind of unsolicted e-mail the best it can and utilize every avenue to uphold its policy. Again, methods to avoid and discourage the SPAMbots have been reimplemented. You may also wish to look into a free service devoted to stopping this kind of activity with your personal "stop 'em before they get to your mailbox" offer.
