My son Evan was born in April, 1987 and Lauren followed in January, 1990. Nobody could ask for better kids. In August I will have put in 18 years working for Uncle Sam, the last 12 with the Customs Service. With a government job, 2 kids, a dog and a house in the suburbs, its hard to believe I've grown up to become my father. While I work in Customs HQ, please don't let me find out that any of you are trying to bring something illegally into the country. Future Plans: Well, this weekend I expect to cut the lawn and go bowling with my daughter. We have a holiday on Monday, but then on Tuesday, I plan on going to work. I will do this for 18 more years and then I'll let you know. Also, planning my son's Bar Mitzvah celebration next year. Has it really been 30 years since I had mine? Memorable Teachers: Mr. Hunt because he tried so hard. Mr. Brace because he made learning so much fun. I think I learned as much Spanish watching Ricky Ricardo on tv than I did from Ms. Sheehy, but she was so nice looking, who cared! This is a very impressive website and I must congratulate any and all who are responsible for it. Class of '74, wherever you are, remember all the good times we had together. She was tough but pretty cool looking back!! ********** From: Tracy Baker Turner turner4@cct.infi.net (1981) Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 Subject: death of george "jeff" baker My dad passed away on April 22, 1999 at his home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. He'd been pretty sick since last November. He was the father of five, almost six, Peary alumni: Chris, Brian, Steve, Mark, Betsy and Tracy (I only lasted a year - lightweight!). Anyway, we miss him like hell, Mom's doing okay, somedays she's poky (her words not mine, although I could've sworn it was spelled "pokey") and other days she manages with that strange, macabre, yet hilarious Baker humor that I'm sure many of my brothers and sisters' friends remember. In any event, it feels odd writing this and putting it "out there" because this makes it a little more real and well, and in my distraction and grief, you don't always want to face this kind of reality. So now you all know that a great guy has gone. Remember him as the host of all my brothers parties (not always willingly! or at home!) Remember him as one of the staunchest boosters at Peary's baseball and football games (I'm not sure, do you "boost" at a wrestling match? sorry Bri). Remember him as one of the first to cry when Steve sang at the variety shows, first to applaud Mark at his pipe band performances, and remember him as Betsy's biggest fan when ever she sang - generally turning the world on its ear (she still does!). So please remember him like we do: funny, handsome and forever hard of hearing. Or just plain forever. Thanks for listening! |
