Other alums I know about: Francine Young and Pat Puglisi lived in the Frederick area, although I have not run into them lately. It's a wonderful website and its great to read about our classmates. So, long-time reader, first-time writer. Occupation: Economist, Spouse: Cyndee, Children: Alas, none. Memorable Incidents: The trip to London, first and foremost. Lots of other stuff -- It's Academic, bowling in lieu of phys. ed., Since High School: I did the college thing -- Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Then I worked for the Department of the Navy for a few years, but did not enjoy, so I returned to school, picked up the MA in economics at U of Maryland and landed the job at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. While there, I earned an MBA in finance and now am enrolled in the Chartered Financial Analyst Program. Along the way I married Cyndee, a wonderful woman with a delightfully wicked sense of humor and sparkling eyes. Future Plans: We hope to adopt a child, maybe two. Work a little, play a little and have some fun along the way. Memorable Teachers: Mr. Clarke was most entertaining, especially for one who already loved history. Mr. Hill brought a sense of class and dignity to his profession. Mr. Cino for encouragement -- I may not play well, but I still love to play. ********** From: Paula Mellinger Schulz paulas@wpsworld.com (1976) Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 Subject: Update I found out about the website from my Mom. Try to relax. Memorable Teachers: Miss Thompson, Science, without her help and support I would have been in the class of 1977. ********** From: Panote Kannchanadul no current e-mail (1974) Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 Subject: Update I found out about the website from browsing through the internet. Occupation: Head of Audio Visual and Computer Department, Spouse: Ichaya Memorable Incidents: Every incident that happened to me while I was in Peary stand out most. Especially the times when my friends and I were at our rowdiest best. Since High School: I didn't stay long enough to graduate from Peary, instead, in 1972 I moved to Potomac and graduated from Winston Churchill High in 1973. Everything but breaking the law. Future Plans: Starting my own computer selling/training class company. Memorable Teachers: I don't remember anyone except Mr. Hassler because he always talked more than teach. I like to contact everyone I once knew from my days at Parkland Jr. High School until I entered Peary. I was 2 years older than most of my classmates, the memories I had while Peary was due to the facts that I had many friends who probably have already forgotten who I was. I grew up from being a no one while in school where nobody seems to know that I exist to become a mostly self-taught person with a lot of adventurous life experience. Not only life-experience help me through but work experience helped me to understand more about life. ********** From: Rick Capka jrcapka@hotmail.com (1967) Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 Subject: Update I found out about the website through Chip Hines '67. Occupation: Brigadier General, US Army; Spouse: Susan, Children: David (25) Married, Rick (23) Since High School: Graduated from the US Military Academy in 1971 and have spent almost 28 years in the Army. I'm currently the Commanding General of the US Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division. ********** From: Panote Kanchanadul no current e-mail (1974) Date: Thu, 20 May 1999 Subject: Sending a message to old friends. Before I begin to write any further, I have to give some information about myself. I did not graduate from Peary but I did spend a year studying in the tenth grade in 1972. After completing the tenth grade, I moved to Potomac and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in the summer of 1973. I went to College in North Carolina for a year in 1974, then came back to MD and went to MC for only one term. The truth is I dropped out of college on my third try, because I did not feel up to being educated in colleges or universities at the time. So this is where I started roaming. I went to Thailand (my homeland) for a year and a half. I was there to work but ended up in a lot crazy situations that became my adventurous life experience. I came back to the US and did nothing but read books for two full years. Then I finally had to get back on the track. I decided to go back to work. This time I worked in an office which was a new experience for me at the time. From age 27 to 31 I worked at The Office of Commercial Counselor, Royal Thai Embassy. So, my experiences and life grew from hereon. The above is just a brief history of my life. The reason I am writing this is to send few messages to old friends I once knew at Peary. Some names have been forgotten, but faces are not. I had a friend, Mike Perkins, whom I hung out with back in our Parkland days. There were others that I knew, like Chuck Bowser, who is hard to forget because he was a wild one back in those days. Bryant Brooks once took me home in his hot rod car when I neary busted my knees jumping from the bleachers out in the ball field, he volunteered to take me home when the nursed asked. Like I said, faces are memorables and names are easy to forget, like my name. So, if any one of you knew me or even knew or heard of my name before, I like here from you. I don't officially have an e-mail address yet, but when I do I will submit it. For now I like to read all the updates or from MSO articles (it is best from this page because people can write their feelings out). Even though I did not graduate from Peary, old memories from my days here are still with me. I hope that before I get old I will be able to contact all my pals from Peary again. ********** From: Marilyn Huck Doolittle Busymama3@juno.com (1975) Date: Sat, 22 May 1999 Subject: Update I found out about the website from my sister Gail, class of '70. Occupation: Full time Mom, Spouse: Ken, Children: Amy 15, Shelly 13, Jimmy 7, Grace 6, Billy 3, Benny 2, Baby due in July Since High School: I attend TSU and graduated with a B.S. in ECE in 1979. I taught for 4 years, and was married to my husband Ken after the third year. That was 17 years ago. Ken is from CA, so we moved back to his home in Aptos which is close to Santa Cruz on the Monterey Bay. I have a full time job as a Mommy and home school teacher. We have six, soon to be seven great children, 3 girls and 3 boys. We are expecting another boy. Future Plans: Future plans? Since I am about to have my seventh child, I think I will be busy for the next 18 to 20 years just seeing him to adulthood, along with all his brothers and sisters! After that I expect I'll be too busy enjoying my grandchildren to worry about much else. Memorable Teachers: Mr. Clark and Mr. Boyd - They were funny, and a good teachers. I enjoyed history. They taught me how to take note in outline form. They were also both real teases. Mr. Peerless - I learned a lot about singing from him. I still love to sing and sing in my church choir. I also lead a children's choir and have my oldest children enrolled in a community youth choir. Mr. Black - He got me through Algebra and Geometry, subjects I was not good at. Now that I have to teach these to my own children I think of him often. ********** Date: Sat, 22 May 1999 From: Eve Morton Apodaca gapo982254@aol.com (1979) Subject: Update Looking forward to 20 year reunion! I don't know where the time has gone. Every day seems to go by faster. Gregg (79) and I are excited about our oldest daughters high school graduation in June this year. Her plans are to move to Tampa, Florida and attend community college. We will be worried about her but know in our hearts that we have raised her well enough to take care of herself. Our middle daughter will be going into 11th grade at Richard Montgomery and our youngest is going into junior high school. They grow up way too fast!!!!! Gregg and I are enjoying life watching our children grow into beautiful, well-rounded young women. We do know the where-abouts of several of the "missing persons" from 1979 and will contact them and put them in the "loop". Two people I have been trying to locate and have been TOTALLY UNSUCCESSFUL are two of my dearest friends from "the neighborhood", Theresa Burgess and Irene Ping. If anyone knows where they are PLEASE have them contact me on-line, or they can find me in the local directory. We'll see everyone in August!! ********** From: Laura Cilimberg Van Der Linden jlvdl@erols.com (1977) Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 Subject: Alumnus Does anyone know what has become of Maurice Powers (class of '77)? He moved sometime during high school and, to the best of my knowledge, has not been heard from since. He lived on Flint Rock Rd. and had several siblings. If someone has any information about him or his family, I would like to hear from you. Thanks! Laura (Cilimberg) Van Der Linden jlvdl@erols.com ********** From: Skip FitzGerald bradley.fitzgerald@gsa.gov (1976) Date: 24 May 1999 Subject: Peary Update Went to the old school on Friday and it's starting to shape up. They removed the fence between the parking lot and paved area where the football stands were. Put down fresh pavement where the stands were to include the smoking court and all around that area. Stripped the track and it looks like they're going to resurface that also. Cleaned the overgrown stuff around the scoreboard and starting to landscape. Replaced most of the windows and covered the windows that were located on the bottom floor of the auto shop/Spanish areas facing the tennis courts. Removed the graffiti. Installed a new HVAC unit on top of the auditorium. If they re-pave all the parking lots, landscape big time, redo the track, paint the exposed wood, then this place will be looking good. Nothing really new is happening although business is real slow right now, so I'm kind of taking a hiatus of sorts. Anyway, my daughter is doing fine. She'll be 9 yrs old on May 30th. Man, cant believe how kids grow up so fast. Anyway, right now, things are kind of tough for me and my family. But I'm sure that we will work through them. I'm also hoping that the class of '83 will be having a reunion soon. I'd love to see everyone again and hear what everyone has been up to since the last reunion. Also, if anyone is interested in having any type of typing done, just check out my website: http://members.aol.com/PLToler1/PPTS.html. You can see the types of services that I offer as well as the rates and you can also browse the various links that I've included. Well thats all for now. Hope to hear from people from the class of '83. Until then, take care everyone. Patty |
