From: Pat Thompson (skinny) O'Neill dynasty666@erols.com (1972) Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 Subject: Nice to see our lives in print!!! I found the website online about 2 years ago, just searching. Occupation: Registered Nurse, Children: Joey 6/14/77 (deceased 2 yrs ago sept 3), Gary 3/26/79, Ricky 8/15/80, Trish 7/13/83, Patrick 4/12/87, Jennifer 7/11/88 Memorable Incident: Summer school fight with Donna McDonald!!!! Since High School: Struggling and looking for Jimmy Palenkas!!!! Memorable Teacher: The DECA teacher Mr who did more for me than even my parents at a time when I needed the most support in my teenage life. To date I have seen very few of my classmates, but when I do it is very exciting! Claire Reginbol, is one of the few I have seen. Craig Ridgeway was a total surprise! His son and mine are best friends. It is really cool and weird at the same time to have your kids and a person you knew from what is now called Middle School, to be best friends!!! It makes one feel old but at the same time it reminds a person that we were all kids once upon a time and mistakes are made that can sometimes (hopefully most of the time) can be amended and straighthen our futures! Valerie Wood, I found and again lost. She is somewhere over seas enjoying her wealth as a writer, Anna Nicolaisen was a neighbor and friend for years, her Wonderful Mom was a very dedicated employee of Aspen Hill Elementary for years and has sadly recently passed on, she will be missed by me and mostly by my mom who lived by her and trusted her for many years. I am so very glad you had what it takes to start this web page. If all the schools would follow we could all keep our youth and our innocence (yeah right) for just a few years longer! My brother was also a member of Peary HS. Danny Thompson 1971, and I know he too would appreciate this page if he were not so busy flying rescue missions over seas!!!! My kids are now wearing what we wore as so called "hippies"!!!!! BELL BOTTOMS! Oh my god! Do we worry about their clothes or do we worry about what they learn in DARE????? Love and fond memories along with the rough times, Patricia Anne Thompson Mileski O'Neill [The website keeps me off the streets and out of the casinos, Patricia. Thank you. BL] ********** From: Catherine Budd Rhea rheainsc@hotmail.com (1970) Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 Subject: Glad to have found you!! I had heard there was a Peary Home Page but just haven't been able to get the kids off of the computer long enough until now to see for myself! My goodness...and all this time I've been thinking I'm the only one who took "Find a way or make one" and made it their very own mantra. It is a motto that has worked well for me through the years. It's been great to hear the news of so many classmates but I can't help but wonder about some that seem to have disappeared. What ever happened to Randy Lake? Robin Smith? Bwana Jim and all the Banana Boat Buddies? I'd love to hear from anyone from my class or thereabouts. Sincerely, Catherine ********** From: Dennis Judge judged1@monroe.army.mil (1972) Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 Subject: Update I found out about this through my brothers. Occupation: Officer, United States Marine Corps, Spouse: Kathy, Children: Elizabeth Ann 19 Feb 1981, Timothy James 2 Oct 1985, Colleen Rebecca 9 Feb 1988 Memorable Incident: I played on the Varsity Football team my junior and senior year. We were 8-2 in 1971 and 9-1 in 1972. Two of our 3 losses came at the hands of Walt Whitman High School. For some reason, they had our number and I can tell there was no love loss between us and them. The game in 1971 stands our vividly in my mind. We were in the running for the Montgomery County Championship and it was our first loss. We lost 16-8. The offense just couldn't get going and our defense was bending just a little too much. As it became apparrent that we wouldn't it out, I remember on the last play of the game, Donny Corronett the defensive captain coming back in the huddle and saying, "Well, we we've lost the game, now lets win the fight." The huddle broke and on the snap the fight insued. Peary and Whitman fans got involved on the field. It was big mess! Several Whitman players and fans were hurt and the police had to clear the field. As we left, I remember the Whitman fans throwing stuff at the bus as we drove out of the parking lot. It was really ugly. The next week the police got with coach Cino to get the game films in an attempt to identify the perpetrators who caused the injuries. I don't think they ever really prosecuted anyone. If there is one thing I can think this incident illustrates, it is that the class of 72 was did not like to lose! We had some real competitors that that hated to lose. Although this game did not demomstrate good sportmanship, the kind of "up yours" spirit shown that day was common throughout the class. I think that's why we were champions in so many sports. Since High School: After Peary, I went to a small school in Ohio called Mount Union College and got a degree in History. I went out for the football team, but was two small and slow to make the varsity. I joined the Marine Platoon Leaders Class my senior year in High School and attended Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia during the summers of 1973 and 1975. When I graduated from College in June of 1976, I was commissioned a Second Lieutentant in the United States Marine Corps. I attended the Marine Corps Basic School in Quantico in October of 1976 and became an infantry officer. While attending college, I met my wife (Kathleen M. Stafford) and we were married in April 1977. We have three great kids. Elizabeth, Timonthy and Colleen. I have been in the Marine Corps my entire adult life. I have had the opportunity to travel to Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, Beruit,Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain and Hawaii. I have also had the opportunity be a Rifle Platoon Commander in Okinawa, a Rifle Company Commander in Beruit, Lebanon, the Director of Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, and the Battalion Commander of the Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, Ca. My family and I have just recently returned from a two year tour of duty in Seoul, Korea with U.S. Forces, Korea. We just bought new house in Seaford Virginia, just south of Yorktown. I have had the good forture to be selected for promotion to Colonel and am presently the Marine Liaison Officer to the Army Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe, Va. Future Plans: I plan to stay in the Marine Corps atleast 5-8 years longer before I retire. I'm just having too much fun! After the Corps, don't really know what I will transition to. But I do know that we will initial transition to my second career in the tidewater area on the Virginia pennisula. We really enjoy that area. However, when I really retire, Kathy and I plan to move to Hawaii, live on the beach and sell shaved ice. Memorable Teacher: Bill Williams. When I joint the JV Football team in 69-70, he was the coach. We were undefeated (8-0). He always impressed me with his booming voice, commanding presence, and competitiveness. He never accepted substandard performance and engrained a winning attitude into all the students he coached. He taught me life long values and skills that I continue to use to this day. I still have a tremendous amount of respect for him. ********** From: Tom Latchaw tlatchaw@giantofmaryland.com (1982) Date: Tue, 18 Aug 1998 Subject: Update I found out about this from an E-mail from my brother, Scott, also a Peary Alumnus. Occupation: Computer Programmer, Spouse: Diana (Dee), Children: Alexandra Nichole Age 5, Victoria Leigh Age 8 months Memorable Incident: Taking the concert band on an exchange trip to New Hampshire. Future Plans: Learn Unix and get lots of experience in order to "move up" Memorable Teachers: Mr. Hunt (incredible horn player!), Mr. Clark (Is everyone ready for the bonus question?), Mr. Hill (A tough teacher, in retrospect that's the best kind), and Mr. Gibbs (Same as Mr. Hill) Missing People? 1983 personRegina (Jeannie) Harris: Married Dan Houchins and moved to Hinesville, GA. The Rockville High School Pipe Band carries on the great Pipe Band tradition started by Dr Dunn at Robert E. Peary High School in 1961. Last May we held The 30th National Capital Area Scottish Festival and honored Dr Dunn, the principal of Peary and the founder of the band and Mr. Clarke, the Pipe Band Director for 27 years and the originator of the Scottish Festival. At the end of the High School Pipe Band's portion of the performance we recognized alumni members from Peary and Rockville in the audience. A majority of the band's staff is made up of Peary Alumni. Lisa Frazier, class of 1977, is the current Pipe Band Director, Martha (Schmitz) Dillon, class of 1978, is the piping instructor and David Ricklis, class of 1967, is the drum major instructor. There have been eight students whose parents were Peary High School Alumni in the band. Five of those students, had parents in the Peary High School Pipe Band and are second generation Pipe Band members. Booster club members may be asked to help the band in fundraising and organizational activities and will be kept informed of band news and performances. Please support the Pipe Band Program! Booster Club dues are $10.00. Checks should be made out to RHSPBBC and can be mailed to The Pipe Band, Rockville High School, 2100 Baltimore Rd, Rockville, MD 20851 For information about the band please write to: Lisa Frazier, Pipe Band Director, at the address listed above, by e-mail: stixmaker@aol.com or call: 301-603-9298. ********** From: Lisa Frazier stixmaker@aol.com (1977) Date: Sun, 23 Aug 1998 Subject: Update I found out about the website from Rob Sauerhoff. I became the Director of the Rockville High School Pipe Band (the band moved when Peary closed in 1984) when Mr. Clarke retired in 1994. Future Plans: Meet the right guy and settle down. Finish college before I turn 60. Take the High School Pipe Band on a trip to Scotland. I remember Ms. Luck fondly because she gave me all of the extra help I needed to pass her class and she never once asked me if I was a lost ball in high weeds. (The same can not be said for some of the other students in the class.) Mr. Peerless for his enthusiasum for music. And of course Mr. Clarke for his dedication to the Pipe Band and all things British Military.
