PAGE 4 of 6 From: Lauren Steinberg Levy lauren.levy@trw.com (1982) Date: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 Subject: New Addition! I am proud to announce the arrival of my son, Allan William Levy. He was born on 12/5/97 at Howard County General Hospital. My husband, Howard, and I are thoroughly thrilled and are actually getting some sleep now! Allan is the light of our lives and we are really enjoying him. I am working as a Systems Engineer for TRW in Greenbelt, doing contract work for Goddard Space Flight Center. Prior to that, Howard and I lived in the Boston area for a couple of years. Otherwise, I've pretty much stayed local. I got my engineering degree from good old U of M and have worked for several "Beltway Bandits" around the area. Howard and I are die-hard Orioles fans and eagerly await the start of the new season. If Allan really wants to rebel, he may choose to become a Yankees fan... I've really enjoyed reading all the updates of Peary Alums -- The website and newsletters have been such fun! Take care, everyone!
From: Patty Toler ecarter236@aol.com (1983) Date: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 Subject: My New Job How found? I have known about it for sometime. I was first introduced to it by my aunt, Eileen Brown Carter (1965). Occupation: Administrative Assistant, Significant Other: Jerome Anceleitz; Children: Caitlin Brynn Jump Age 7 yrs (birth date: May 30, 1990, Sign: Gemini) Memorable Incident: Senior prank and senior skip day. I had to ask permission from my grandfather (who was the building maintenance worker at Peary at the time), if it was okay for me to skip school that day. I ended up going to work instead of school. Got paid overtime. Since High School: Everything. Got married. Got divorced. Got engaged. Had a baby. Got unengaged (2 1/2 yrs later). Met someone new. Got engaged a year later and have been with him for 5 years. He and I just bought a condo and I got a great new job. Life is certainly looking up. Future Plans: Get married. Have all my bills paid off. Take a long vacation overseas or a cruise to the caribbean. Grow old with my spouse. Hope my daughter is able to have a good relationship when she grows up and hopefully give me grandchildren by the time she is 30 years old. Memorable Teachers: I remember Mr. Hill. He compared me to my mother who was a really bad math student. He also knew my grandfather who worked a Peary during the time I was there. Always told me that if I didn't do my best, he wouldn't send me to the principal, he would send me to my grandfather. All my teachers knew who he was and that pretty much kept me in line. Comments: If the on-line coordinator for the class of 1983 needs a co-coordinator, I would be more than happy to volunteer my time. Just e-mail me. Just to let everyone know, I started working for a company called Top Notch, Inc. It is a promotional and apparel items company. I am learning alot. I also have access to the AOL at my office as well, so if anyone would like to e-mail me, they can reach me at edfaulmino@aol.com or if need be, you can e-mail me at cartere@tst.tracor.com. So far everything is going great with the job. And I finally was able to put my 7 1/2 year old daughter, Caitlin, in day care. It is nice to finally be able to afford something. The only down thing is, Caitlin needs to have her tonsils taken out. I am sure that by the time this issue comes out on-line, that will have already happened. We are not looking forward to it (her father and I). I will be taking a day off (the day of surgery) to be with her but then she will be recuperating with her aunt and uncle who reside in Big Pool, Maryland. The only thing that she is looking forward to as far as the surgery goes is the fact tha! t she will be able to eat all the ice cream that she wants. She loves ice cream. So far everything is going okay with the new home that my fiance and I just closed on last Wednesday (February 25, 1998). Well, I guess that is all that has happened but I will keep you informed and updated as things come to pass. Signing off for now, this is Patty Toler bidding everyone farewell and keep safe.
From: Jennifer Swift Joyner Houser JJ694@airmail.com (1981) Date: Fri, 6 Mar 1998 Subject: Update I found out about this from my sister Christina Dodd, class of 79. Occupation: Happily retired R.N., Spouse: Doug, Children: Tyler Brandon Joyner 13 and Ryan Swift Joyner 12; Grandchildren: Please! Memorable Incidents: I recall a variety of embarassing incidents most of which involved Alice Cech. If you were looking to get into trouble you could usually count on snow days, skipping school, summer vacation and Alice. She perfected the art of mischief and I must admit I was a willing accomplice. So much time has gone by it all blends in together. Mostly I remember people: the ones that made me laugh, the ones that made me cry, and the ones that made me get contact lenses. (You know who you are.) My best times were with Sandy Washington, Sylvia Lee, Cathy Wybierala, and Joyce Harris. Thankfully good friends outlast everything else. Since High School: Researching life. So far it's been going pretty well. I think I've finally got the marriage thing down. (Although my mother says I have "Zsa Zsa Gabor Syndrome.") Having two boys has been great. I never knew I was so good at basketball. I did a three year stint as a R.N. between marriages and was then happily rescued a la "Pretty Woman" (minus the hooking part, I just didn't have the legs). In the sequel she becomes a volunteer for a variety of well-intentioned charities, hits all the best parties, looks for her picture in Town & Country, travels the world .......and then thanks God because he gave her the sense to know that the only truly important things in life are family and friends. Future Plans: Continue my research. If life is a highway then I'm taking the scenic route. Memorable Teachers: Ms. Tigani, God love her, she had the most patience with me. Dr. Fleeger, in my sixteen/seventeen year old mind I found him exceedingly sexy. Missing People? Sylvia (Lee) Donovan - Houston, Texas; Joyce (Harris) Topper - Bel Air, Maryland; Cathy (Wybierala) Silk - Baltimore, Maryland; Sandy Washington (class of 80) - Clifton, Virginia

Occupation: Nurse Manager, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Spouse: Craig Conway (1978), Craig's Occupation: data analyst, hem/onc consulting firm; Children: Alex age 9, Amanda age 6 Memorable Incident: Had to have been 3 of the best years of my life!! So many great friends and parties! Doing so many wild things and never getting caught. Of course, my all time best friends Amy and Terri! Since High School: After graduation, attended East Carolina Univ. in Greenville, NC and graduated with a Bachelor's in Nursing. I have been working in the neonatal intensive care unit for 13 years now. I am presently the Nurse Manager of the department. Future Plans: My husband has just recently made a job change and it looks like I'm moving back to Maryland. I'm still looking for my new job--have no idea what I want to do?? Memorable Teachers: Mr. Clarke, of course. He used to make me stand on a chair and point to all the high spots on the maps when I was wearing my cheerleading outfit. Comments: Amy, you're conch!

From: Neal Lee Pizzano npizzano@erols.com Date: Mon, 09 Mar 1998 Subject: The R.E. Peary 5K Run Some of you were notified of the idea that there might be a 5K run at Peary this year. It was supposed to be held in April. Unfortunately it won't happen. At least not this spring. Here's what happened to the run. Human Opportunities through Physical Education (H.O.P.E.) went to the Hebrew Academy and brought about the idea of having a run at the school. It would benefit both H.O.P.E. and the academy, by bringing awareness to the community. A date was set after Passover. It was also planned on a Sunday in order to get participation from the academy. H.O.P.E. started working with a marketing group to help promote the concept. The idea would also bring about the newly formed Robert E. Peary Alumni Association. The new association would also bring awareness to the community about alumni feelings toward the old school. H.O.P.E. held 2 "R.E.Peary" runs in the past and this would be a great way to form a friendship with the academy by having another run. It could make things easier down the road if H.O.P.E. would like to house some programs at the facility. Likewise, by bringing in the newly-formed association, alumni could possibly have a good, established relationship when it came time to hold events at the old school. Ideas included a "Homecoming" dance of sorts and possible alumni sporting events on the field. As time progressed in the planning, the marketing organization decided to convince H.O.P.E. to move the race from Peary. The school would not be ready for a spring race anyway as construction was still months away from starting. This left the association in the dark because there isn't any membership yet to organize such an event. Besides, now the concept of "introducing" the alumni to the picture wasn't going to exist. The marketing group was supposedly getting sponsors for the event and for another project. The project was one that would solicit money from alumni to put some kind of permanent display at the new academy. It would be something that would show that we had not forgotten our roots, and that everyone there would be able to see as a constant reminder that the building once housed the students and faculty of a school named Robert E. Peary High School. At first the academy wanted us to contribute to a flagpole and a plaque would be inscribed and placed there as a constant memorial to us. But, the idea of getting funds for a scoreboard seemed a little more brazen as it would say something like, "Donated by the R.E.Peary High School Alumni, Faculty and Staff." the scoreboard would be seen by everyone who attended any sporting event. However, things turned bleak. The marketing company took the money and ran. Supposed funds never appeared. There was no longer any working capital to put on such an event. The Hebrew Academy was notified and things have been put on hold. I am sorry it has taken me over a month to write about this, but I guess I had some strange vision that maybe it could be salvaged somehow. Realistically, that is impossible as it takes quite some time to plan out the logistics of putting on such an event. I hope that those of you who seemed interested, will come forward to help plan another run (or other event) to be held at the old school. If, of course, you think this is a bad idea, well then I need to know this too. I am not trying to make strange bedfellows with the academy, but I am hoping that a working relationship with them could benefit the alumni as a whole. Faced with this adversity for now, I will re-group and try again. I will not give up. Neal Pizzano PS. The marketing group is under investigation for fraud with the state attorney's office. H.O.P.E. has a vested interest in the outcome of the investigation.
From: Dan Gabel insight.fll@worldnet.att.net (1970) Date: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 Subject: Update I found out about the website from Sue Cruzan (the goddess). Occupation: Reg Mgr - Insight Electronics, Spouse: Sheila; Children: Jessica Paige 14, Jacob Daniel 7, Sean Louis 2 Memorable Incidents: All the things that I wouldn't want my 14 year-old daughter doing Since High School: Relocated to South Florida approx 18 years ago.... have been very busy with both my career and raising an extremely active family Future Plans: Intend to eventually move to San Diego, where my company is headquartered, and finish my working career. Will then move to some remote area of Wyoming where I will pursue my art career and travel extensively Memorable Teachers: Mr. Clarke for making education interesting, and all the rest for not. I would truly enjoy hearing from Ruth Kaneshiro
From: Barry Robinson lizzygold@aol.com (1976) Date: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 Subject: Let us remember it was the other schools that voted for the demise of Peary. The Bastards! I grew up half a mile from Peary; and on summer evenings I could hear bagpipes playing in the distance. It was both eery and beautiful. Back then it was greasers and motor heads and whoever smoked pot was probably a musician or a social democrat. Every week the opposing teams would paint the anchor and my brother and would sneak into fall football games. Once we had to threaten Mr. Clarke because he had locked our bikes as payment. Later, after I took his class I learned to appreciate him. His humor was korny but top notch. We who went to Peary, I believe, had a unique experience. Never was there such a culmination of weirdos, elitists, boozers, idealists, clowns and dreamers. And it all seemed to work. If when you drive by the old building you feel a slight pain in your heart. I'll tell you what it is. In that time pocket, we were allowed the opportunity to change the World on our drawing boards, speak to each other peace, God, country, feelings and the way things were going to be with a sincerity, courage, and innocence that has since fled us all. Unfortunately, for some of us survival of us the soul became a full time job. But as naive as it sounds "find a way or make one" has always stayed with me.
