INTRODUCTION
Happy New Year Huskies! Did you catch the reference and kudos given to Mr. Clarke in the 12/29 Washington Post Metro section in the article about high school advanced placement? Thanks to Sandra Wilson (Faculty 1969-1984) for catching this and sharing it with us! Our sympathies to the Dore family. Robert Dore, who graduated in 1971 from St. Johns, passed away on January 8. His sister, Madaleine, is a graduate of Holy Cross, and Valerie Dore Santos (1977) and her husband, Randy (1978), both Peary graduates, are online with us. Also, our prayers go out to the Kernan family, whose mom, Marion, passed away January 14. Her children, many of whom graduated from Peary, include Joseph (Lt. Governor of Indiana), Barbara Kernan Christin of Washington Grove, MD, Mary Kernan Harbison of Gaithersburg, Jenny Kernan Loveless (1977) of Olney, MD, Terry Kernan (1980) of Derwood, MD and also online with us, Kelly Kernan McCarty (1983) of Germantown, MD, and Susan Kernan Woo (1974) of Gaithersburg, MD. It was reported that many congressmen and senators were in attendence at the wake and the service at St. Elizabeths due to Joseph's work, with many friends of the Peary siblings also in attendance. WEBSITE STATS: There are now 1,224 online with us.... so in a month's time, we welcomed 100 alums aboard! The website is still slated for a redesign, and there's now a working index available if you're searching for something in particular on the site. Thank you to Jim Hardman (1976) for setting this up for us and providing the resources needed from his organization's server. PHOTOS: Keep 'em coming in and we'll post them, whether it's last week's event or your last reunion. There's even a wedding photos section if you want us to post a couple pictures to share with your old friends. Photos from the happy hour in Bethesda January 16th have arrived and will be posted soon.... and some photos from Halloween at Silo Inn are on their way. Speaking of the Silo Innas many of you know, a "farewell" party was held January 3rd for its closing. The Silo Inn has been a long-time gathering spot for Peary alums and we're sad to see the closing of the establishment. However, there is talk of plans for opening a "new" Silo! Stay tuned for details. Thanks to the Tavenner family for hosting many of our events over so many years. REUNIONS IN 1998: Missing persons lists have been placed online for the Classes of 1973 and 1978 which are having their reunions this year. If you have a moment, take a look through the lists and help us track down some fellow classmatesyou may be in touch with, or have contact info for, any of the missing people's siblings too... so all leads are helpful. There has been no word on reunions for 1963, 1968, or 1983. If you have information about reunion plans for any of these classes, please contact Neal Pizzano at npizzano@erols.com as soon as possible. Also, preliminary planning is in progress for the Class of 1969 30-year reunion in 1999. 1966 50th BIRTHDAY BASH: The Class of 1966 Birthday Party will be held the weekend of June 12, 1998 at the Quality Suites in Gaithersburg, MD. ONLY those 1966 alumni who responded to the mailing by returning their interest cards will receive further information in the mail. You snooze, you lose! ROCKY MOUNTAIN GATHERING: A Colorado All-Class Reunion/Soire will be held on Saturday March 21. Anyone in Colorado is welcome to attend, or as Ron Bostwick (1977) puts it "... we don't care where you live, if you want to show up... come on down!" The event will be held in the Denver area. Submit ideas, comments, questions to the coordinators of this event via e-mail or give them a call: Janet Peters (1980) - jpeters600@aol.com Look for more info in the next issue and on the website. If you're interested in attending, please send one or both of them an e-mail. This way they can contact you directly when they know where and what time. If you know of any other alumni in the area, please tell them! Some online Colorado alums have already been contacted. [Hey, Ron, were you one of those ski slope cowboys on Tuesday?!] ONLINE CLASS COORDINATORS: The only class remaining that is not represented online is 1967. Thanks to Mike O'Neil for taking on the Class of 1969. So, 23 of our 24 graduating classes are represented. It would also be nice to have an online coordinator for Faculty and Staff (hint, hint, Mary Thomson)! GET WELL SOON: Ron Work (1970), also our 1970 online coordinator, recently underwent bypass surgery and is recuperating. Send Ron some wishes for a speedy recovery! In the meantime, Ruth Kaneshiro Fujita is filling-in for Ron for class information and classmate updates. PAULA MARSHALL (1982): Paula will be returning for an additional two episodes of ABC's Spin City as Michael J. Fox's character's love interest later this season, possibly in February. Her latest film, "Thursday" was last known to possibly be scheduled for showing at the Sundance Festival before it hits the public theaters. Several local alums have expressed an interest in going to Chinatown (DC) on Sunday February 1 for Dim Sum and Chinese New Year with the firecrackers, dragons, etc. etc. E-mail Bob Lau if you'd like to join us for this outing. Easily accessible via Metroadvisable due to the crowd for the celebration. Arrive hungry! For those who are not familiar with "Dim Sum"it's the Chinese version of Sunday brunch where they cart the numerous selections of food to your table and you select the items you like or want to try. Watch for details on the website. Articles for the February issue of the Midnight Sun Online are due Saturday, February 21st. On to this month's news and updates... ...and see you at Gentleman Jim's in Gaithersburg, Friday January 23! Bob Lau, Editor/Webmaster The Midnight Sun Online Robert E.
