From: Alan Bandler abandler@his.com Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 Subject: building condition

I recently had the opportunity to tour the interior of the school. I'm sad to report that the conditions have deteriorated even further. The developer had to install a perimeter fence and weld some of the doors shut. It seems that the builing has been reduced to a flop house for run-aways and drug addicts. The ceiling in the cafeteria has a huge gaping hole in it. Someone set fire to the auditorium seats and burned a hole in the gym floor. Throughout the building there are racial epithets and gang references.

I only attended Peary HS briefly, but had grown up with a lot of the class of 1980. Currently searching for Barbara Ashauer, Carol Wiley, and Greg Graham. Had attended the 1980 graduation and hope to see others for their 20th reunion. Thanks

From: Neal Lee Pizzano npizzano@erols.com (1976) Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 Subject: The Alumni Association

Some of you have been wondering what happened to the alumni association idea. It's not dead, just dormant. The association was incorporated in the state of Maryland on November 7th of this year. Since then, I became ill and had to put a number of projects on the back burner. Now that I am nearly up to speed with things, and feeling much better, I again will try to focus some of my energies into making the alumni association a reality for all of us.

If you have any suggestions for alumni events or projects, send me your ideas. One of the ideas already floating around would be to have a homecoming dance sometime next fall. However crazy or obscure the ideas may be, they will all be up for discussion next year.

From: Joe "Stoney" Stonestreet stonejr@erols.com (1978) Date: Mon, 22 Dec 1997 Subject: Update

I found out about the website from Judy Crosley Ferguson.

Occupation: Carpenter (union), Spouse: Barbara Leigh (1978),

Children: one stepdaughter (Jaqueline Marie, 18), one daughter (Jessica Nicole, 8), Grandchildren: not quite yet!!!!!!!!!

Memorable Incident: Getting busted for skipping an assembly and having the hall monitor sneak up on us trying to catch a buzz in the alcove by the door to the basement mechanical room (anybody out there remember that spot????)..Buzzy Mathurin yelling at the guy and occupying his attention while I winged a burning bowl out into the field of the elementary school next door..Jamie Allen forgetting he had a bong bowl in his pocket and getting hauled off by the cops for it, and Mabel calling my house that night and telling my parents that they didn't get me this time..but they would the next..(tough luck mabel!!!)

Since High School: I worked in restaurants for about the first eight years...and then decided it was time to find something more permanent to do with myself..went through the carpenter apprenticeship program and became a union carpenter working in and around the Washington area ..at the tail end of my restaurant stint I met my wife, Barbara, pretty much for the first time even though we both graduated from REP the same year.. most of my work has been for the Smithsonian (I've worked in ALL the museums downtown on the mall). In addition..I had the honor of being carpenter on call for the last Inauguration (I know..SLICK WILLY..but it was still pretty cool being there !!!!)..My company, Associated Builders, usually puts up the reviewing stand that the Pres stands in to watch the parade, and I was in charge of the construction of the press stand directly accross Pennsylvania Ave. (The thing is a 3 story building put up for what, 4 hours of parade???? HELLO!!! ANYBODY SEEN MY TAX DOLLARS????) Anyway, that's pretty much what I've been up to..(in case you guys were really wondering!!!)

Future Plans: Making it to retirement (only..what...20 YEARS to go and I got this thing beat!!!!)..Looking out for the wife and little ones... PLAYING ONLINE MORE OFTEN!!! (GOD!!!!..aint these things unbelievable???)....and at least making up a better life for the next reunion!!! (sshhhh..don't tell people..)

Teachers: Mr. Black, for trying to teach me Algebra 2 and Trig first thing in the morning (quite a few days after I tested the latest weed going around on the walk to school...BAD IDEA STONEY!!..), and also Mrs. Kanter.. who everyone thought was a complete ditz.. but then I realized that she taught me more about Psychology than I ever thought I could have absorbed ...what a Great Teacher she turned out to be!!!

Missing People? I'm afraid I don't have too much...although I do know James Allen wound up married and living in the Four Corners area (he's class of 79), and when last seen he had a couple of little ones running around the place, but sadly we've kinda slipped away from each other over the years.

From: Sharon Marcus smar1@bellatlantic.net (1970) Date: Mon, 22 Dec 1997 Subject: Fred Dunn appears in the news....

Just writing to make sure you saw the article in this past Sunday's Washington Post Magazine on Cardozo High School. It seems that Fred Dunn (and a picture of him appears in the article with two alumni of Cardozo H.S.) is mentioned several times in the article about the old Central H.S. (now Cardozo H.S.) and how all the old alumni of Central still meet and give scholarships to current students of Cardozo.

Sharon Marcus Class of '70

[Thank you, Sharon! We'll certainly post this online too!]

Occupation: Technical Writer, Spouse: Beth, Children: None, yet. Grandchildren: Getting way ahead, now!

Since High School: Married Elizabeth Anne James (a Seneca Valley grad) in September, 1989. No kids, yet, but we're getting ready to start! Graduated Towson State, 1990, with a BS in Mass Communications, TV Production focus. Spent two years in Maryland as a freelance 3D animator, then moved to Dallas, Texas, where I continued freelancing for two more years, and even helped develop a couple of bad video games! Got a temporary job at Microsoft after that, which turned into a permanent technical support position. Last Spring, took second place in an online 3D animation contest, and got a short story published for the first time in a Web magazine! Recently got a promotion and transfer to Seattle, where I now do technical writing and editing for the support knowledge base. Life continues to improve.

Teachers: I best remember Bob Clarke, for his good humor, his sponsorship of the pipe band, the way he had of making history come alive, and "Are you ready for a bonus question!?!?!?" "YES, SIR!!!"
