INTRODUCTION Greetings Huskies - SOME THOUGHTS & WISHES: Our best wishes to Jim Privette (1966) for a speedy recovery from his 3-hour knee surgery on November 3rd. Get well, Jim -- can't keep a good man down (though you still may be sore)! Our sympathies to the Carter family for the loss of their son, John (1977), who was killed in the line-of-duty while fighting a fire in Northwest DC. John's survivors include his wife, Debbie, and their 8-year-old son, Brian. A trust fund has been setup for Brian -- information is available on the website. A two-mile funeral processional accompanied John to his final resting place at Parklawn Cemetery on October 25. Over 3,000 people from all over the country and Canada attended. The full story and photos are on the website in the Classmate Memorial section, off the People News page. HOLIDAY PARTY: The reservations deadline for the Peary Alumni Holiday Party at the Bauer Recreation Center Friday evening December 19 from 7:00-Midnight has been extended to December 12. We have received reservations from those graduating in 63-65-66-70-75-76-77-78-79-82-84 so far. Tickets are $15 each ($16 if by credit card) and you're welcome to bring friends and family. The cost of the evening covers the facility, food, settings, soft drinks, DJ/Karioke, and door prizes. Please contact Maureen DiFulgo Bladen (1976) or check the information, details, and sign-up form on the website. All former faculty and staff will be invited to join us for this holiday event. THE WEBSITE: It continues to grow. We now have over 1,040 online alumni. Thanks for continuing to spread the word! We will continue to post photos, news items, reunion information, etc. as we receive them. Even Birthday Club submissions continue to arrive each day. Thanks for everyone's participation in the entire MSO effort! SPONSORSHIP: A reminder that the Peary/MSO accepts donations from alumni and we'd like to say thank you to our past donators. Donation information is available on the website and all donations go towards the monthly fees for our home page, currently over $125 each month. REUNIONS: Class of 1967, 1977, and 1982 photos continue to arrive, and we'll be placing them online as they're digitized. We're still expecting some photos from 1971, 1972, and others and will have these online as soon as you guys send them - hint. Thanks to Karyn Pomerantz (1967) and Joanna Dougherty Witzel (1977) for loaning us their photos that will be placed online shortly. Reminder: Class of 1973 and 1978 reunion plans are in-progress, as are plans for the 1966 50th Birthday Bash (tentatively June 13). Check the respective class sections on the website for updates on these events. We're still seeking information about plans for the Classes of 1963, 1968, and 1983. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: The Robert E. Peary HS Alumni Association has been formed. There remain some details to be worked-out. We'll keep you posted. The REPHS 5K Race (possibly 8K) will be held in April, and the money raised through this effort will assist The Hebrew Academy meet the September 1998 re-opening of the building. Look for a Homecoming Dance for alumni to be held in the gym in the future! Contact Neal Pizzano npizzano@erols.com or Barbara Dentz Riley timm@erols.com if you're interested in joining the Robert E. Peary High School Alumni Association committee. The draft By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation are available online. YEARBOOKS: Archiving each year of our Polaris continues. Yes, it is a long-term and time-consuming project, but you will soon be able to order any year of the Polaris as a CD-ROM. For those of you who have loaned their personal copies of the yearbook, they are being specially cared for and will be returned immediately upon the digitization of their contents! Thank you for your patience. ONLINE CLASS COORDINATORS: We're still looking for coordinators for the Classes of 1967-69, 1981, 1983-84, and 1986. Articles for the December issue of the Midnight Sun Online are due Saturday, December 20th. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday folks, and see you at the Alumni Holiday Party on December 19th (send your reservations NOW limited to 200 people, and it will be announced soon in the local newspapers).
