INTRODUCTION

Hello Huskies -

SOME THOUGHTS & WISHES: Notes of sympathy to the family and friends of Richard Vitek (1968), Laura Burroughs Porter (1975), and Danny Haynos (1971) for the recent passing of these fellow classmates. We will miss the three of you.

Our thoughts are with Barbara Dentz and Tim Riley (1971), and to our relief, one of their nieces survived a very bad auto accident. Our prayers continue for her niece's friend, who still remains comatose.

A benefit was held for Sue Burkhardt Earp (1976) on September 27th at the Circle D Ranch in Olney. Sue has been fighting a battle against cancer as reported in the last issue. We want to continue to assure Sue and Buddy (1973) that we stand behind them in this fight. If you would like to help, donations can be sent to Hospice Caring, Inc. for Sue and Buddy Earp, 707 Conservation Lane, Suite 100, Gaithersburg, MD 20878. Make checks payable to: Sue and Buddy Earp - any amount is welcome.

Best wishes to Jim Brown (1963) for a speedy recovery from recent knee surgery!

HOLIDAY PARTY: Reservations for the Peary Alumni Holiday Party are beginning to arrive! The party will be held at the Bauer Recreation Center Friday December 19 from 7:00-Midnight. Informal. BYOB. Tickets are $15 each ($16 if by credit card) and you're welcome to bring friends and family. Payment due November 15. The cost of the evening covers the facility, food, settings, soft drinks, and DJ/Karioke. Please contact Maureen DiFulgo Bladen (1976) mosienon@aol.com for further details or check the information and sign-up form on the website. We hope you'll be able to join us—also those of you who may be in-town for the holidays that weekend!

WEBSITE UPDATES: We're closing in on having 1,000 alums online with us at MSO. Thank you for spreading the word to everyone! The site continues to grow, and because of this, the site will be undergoing some design changes over the next couple of months which will be gradually implemented. We'd like to acknowledge input we've received from Dean Peters (1977) and others on the design of the Peary website that has helped me and the appointed design team in planning a more-efficient layout, plus quicker loading times.

THE BIRTHDAY CLUB: The Club Is Online! Take a look at the elaborate work that Laura Vandevender Collins (1973) has done to celebrate our classmates' birthdays. The section is full of birthday trivia, music, and of course the birthdays of alumni who joined the club with links to send them a greeting. There's more planned for the Birthday Club, but take a look at it now to see where its headed. Thanks, Laura! Thanks Neal Pizzano for the idea!

REUNIONS: The Class of 1982 held its 15-Year Reunion and all had a wonderful time thanks to the coordination and planning by Karen Kushner and Pamela Myers Nason. Thanks to Lisa DesRoche Coleman and Tim Coleman (1976) for opening up their home for the 1982 reunion picnic!

Thanks to Leslie Johnson McIntyre (1977) for loaning photos from the 1971 and 1977 reunions. We're still accepting photos for 1971 and 1977 to add to the online archives, plus we NEED photos from the 1967 and 1972 reunion activities if you can help. We've been in touch with Sharon Parker Cruver (1967), Carole Connolly Wack (1967), and Dena Besoner Saunders (1972) who will be assisting with this as well.

Next year: Class of 1973 and 1978 reunion plans are in-progress, as are plans for the 1966 50th Birthday Bash (tentatively June 13). Check the respective class sections on the website for updates on these events. We're still gathering information about plans for the Classes of 1963, 1968, and 1983.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: The Robert E. Peary 5K Race is scheduled for April 1998—we'll let you know the details as they become available. As you may have noticed if you've driven by the building, the Hebrew Academey has begun renovating our Alma Mater. The building is scheduled for reopening in September 1998. This race will benefit the project—and wouldn't it be wonderful to have an annual Homecoming Dance in the gym? Contact Neal Pizzano npizzano@erols.com or Barbara Dentz Riley timm@erols.com if you're interested in joining the Robert E. Peary High School Alumni Association committee. The draft By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation are available online.

ONLINE CLASS COORDINATORS: We're seeking coordinators for the Classes of 1965, 1967-69, 1981, 1983-84, and 1986. If you'd like to help out as the online representative for your class listed above, drop me a note for more details.

Now, on to the news..... we hope YOU will share your news items with everyone next month too!
