THOMAS, WILLIAM H., JR. (Age 81)

Of Milton, DE, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, MD. Mr. Thomas was born in Ottumwa, IA, son of the late William H. Thomas and Helen Redburn Thomas. Mr. Thomas retired in 1979 after 30 years as a Teacher at the Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, MD. Mr. Thomas had also worked part time for the A & P Markets for 30 years in Aspen Hill, MD.

He was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes, DE; a volunteer for the Beebe Medical Center for over 15 years; member of the American Legion in Rockville, MD; and was a US Navy/OSS veteran. He graduated from Ottumwa, IA high school; attended the University of Iowa before entering the Navy; received his Bachelors in Education degree from the University of Maryland and his Masters Degree in Education from George Washington University. While at Peary High School, Mr. Thomas was a sponsor of the Key Club and the Pom Squad, and was a Referee for high school sporting events.

Mr. Thomas was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley L. Thomas in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Ann Metzger Thomas; four daughters, Patricia Mae Thomas of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nancy Thomas Carman, Gaithersburg, MD, Jane Celeste Miller of Ashburn, VA and Susan E. Thomas of Myrtle Beach, SC; one step-daughter, Sandra Ann Aylward, Dover, DE; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 14, 2001, 10 a.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE, with burial in All Saints Cemetery, Angora, DE. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, ATKINS-LODGE CHAPEL, 1449 Kings Hwy., Lewes, DE, where Elks Services will be held at 7 p.m.
