Stephanie S. Pinney Caris, 40, a nurse, died of cancer Wednesday July 7, 1993, at her home in Sykesville, Md.

Born in Sioux City, S.D., Stephanie grew up in South Dakota, Palo Alto, Calif., Vienna, Va. and Rockville. She graduated from Peary High School in 1971 and the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1975. While at Peary she was an AFS exchange student.

From 1975 to 1976, and again in 1978, she worked as a staff nurse at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. She worked as a visiting nurse in Adelaide, Australia in 1977. She taught nursing at Lansing (MI) Community College in 1979-80 and worked as a public health nurse in Lansing from 1980-82. She moved from Grand Ledge, MI back to Maryland in 1988.

From 1982 until she passed away, she provided home schooling for her children. Stephanie was active in the Uniontown Bible Church.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; four children, Paul, Marcus, Douglas, and Joy, who now all live in Vestaburg, MI; two sisters, Penney of Virginia Beach, VA and Lisa of New Market, MD.; and a brother, Edward of Mt. Airy.

Her funeral was held at the Uniontown Bible Church, Uniontown, MD with burial in the Pipe Creek Cemetery, Uniontown.
