EVENDALE--Lois Cohen Kramer [1976] began volunteering when her oldest child
entered preschool seven years ago. Now it's a way of life. She has three
children in three different schools -- and volunteers at each one.
Mrs. Kramer, 38, is chairwoman of the Rockdale Temple Nursery Preschool
Committee, where her daughter, Bria, 4, attends. She was room mother for
Evendale Elementary last year for 8-year-old Josh's class. She served as
chairwoman of the staff appreciation lunch, and helped with other school
activities. She was also classroom helper for 10-year-old Eric's teacher
at Robert E. Lucas Intermediate. The boys are active in sports, which her
husband, Marty, coaches, so she also spends time helping with those
activities.
"The wide range of community service projects and hands-on work she does is
incredible," said Karen Tochtermann, Montgomery, who met her through the
council. "The fact that she juggles raising three children, running a
preschool board, and being executive vice president of the National Council
of Jewish Women, plus her various activities with the schools, is admirable."
Mrs. Kramer said she believes giving enhances life. "I'm a stay-at-home
mother, and I'm very committed to family and community. I think there are
times when you just need to step up and do what needs to be done."
