We would like to thank all alumni and former staff for the kind thoughts, prayers, and condolences to our uncle Dr. Brennan. Born in Carbondale, PA, Dr. Brennan was a scholar, a teacher, and a leader. He had spent the last few years of his life battling lung cancer. He is now resting in peace. William F. Brennan
Educator
William F. Brennan, 72, a retired Montgomery County educator who was principal of Eastern Middle School and Montgomery Blair and Robert E. Peary high schools, died of lung cancer Oct. 10 at his home in Bethesda.
Dr. Brennan was a principal in the 1960s and 1970s and retired in 1982 as a consultant to the board of education.
He was a native of Carbondale, Pa., and a graduate of the University of Scranton. He received a master's degree and a doctorate, both in education, from George Washington University.
Dr. Brennan began his career as a math teacher in the 1950s at Greenbelt Junior High School. He later taught at Eastern and Gaithersburg high schools, served as a counselor and was assistant principal at Leland and Newport junior high schools.
Dr. Brennan was a member of Phi Delta Kappa educational fraternity, the Irish American Cultural Institute, St. Jane Frances de Chantel Catholic Church in Bethesda, the National Education Association and AARP.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Clarissa Boylan Brennan of Bethesda; a daughter, Monica Brennan Smith of Rockville; two sisters, Mary Staples of Beltsville and Patricia Needham of Springfield; and two grandchildren.
