America: United We Stand

From Joe Chornock (1972), 8/31/02: Visit this website: www.politicsandprotest.com - In some of the pictures you can see
GVFD's Rescue Squad 291 in front of the Pentagon.
From Craig Churches (1981): To all Huskies (American Allies),
It was a real shock when the USA was attacked on that fateful day. I happened to be in the UK on exchange exercise at the
time. As a Warrant Officer Class Two (WO2) in the Australian Army, Royal Australian Artillery, my natural response was
for the US to attack the person/people responsible. It seems unreal that such an act of war could happen so easily. No one
saw it coming. Please rest assured that we (all Australians) support you as a nation and have pledged our support. On that
thought, I have been extremely busy at work instructing elements of our Forces in the use of specialist tactical equipment.
Needless to say, whichever nation "gets" those responsible, it will not entirely justify those who died. There is solidarity
in knowing that you are in our thoughts and prayers. May God be on your side.
From Gary Rebsch (1979), 9/28/01: Just a note of thanks from those of us working the disasters. The support of friends,
neighbors, and people we never met was terrific. The Huskies were represented by Gary Rebsch ('79) and Stu Hanson ('80)
who work for the Mont. County Fire and Rescue but were there Federalized as part of a disaster team. I am sure there were
others there from Peary. Every time I drove into the site, I was inspired by those flying flags and lighting candles. When I
came home from my first 53 hour shift, I was shocked by all the flags on homes, cars, bridges, etc... I had not seen any media
coverage while I was there, so it was a total surprise to me. Remember over three hundred of our brother firefighters who were
safe in their firehouses, rushed to the twin towers as they had rushed to so many other emergencies over their careers, and
never came back. That is what hurts me the most. Thanks to all of you who showed your support. It did help inspire us on.

Like many throughout the United States and the world, those of us here at MSO
are shocked and appalled by the inexcusable attacks on Washington D.C. and
New York City.  In the wake of such a horrible catastrophe, our thoughts are
with those whose lives have been lost or forever affected by these tragedies.  As
well, our sympathies go to the friends and families of those who have lost loved
ones.  Thank you for the many e-mails received that have conveyed your thoughts
during this difficult time. -- Bob Lau, Webmaster

A powerpoint presentation was received by Carolyn Foote Johnson (1978) that archives
some photos of the events.  The .pps file (approx. 850k) may be downloaded here.  Please
note that you may find some of the images unsettling.... they may anger you... or they may
inspire you.  If you have any concerns, don't download/view it.  If you're a Windows user,
you can download and install a Powerpoint viewer at
