The Robert E. Peary Alumni Association was created and
incorporated in November of 1997. The concept
was born in 1992 out of a desire
to muster alumni support for an organization that would help those less
fortunate. The plan included the idea that, with this function, the old Peary
building would serve a legitimate
purpose and would be reopened. However, lack
of funding became an obstacle. The dream became reality
when the county granted
the Hebrew Academy of Greater Washington the lease to the building in 1997. In
August of 1996, the website known as the Midnight Sun Online was born (you're
already here). It
“sparked
a revolution in spirit,” and became the focal point for all alumni
and staff associated with Peary High. This
phenomenon rekindled the desire to create an official association.
