Subject: Death of SAM BELCHER, former Peary Teacher
On Monday morning, 8 September, Sam R. Belcher, suffered a heart attack and
passed away at Holy Cross Hospital in
Silver Spring, MD. Mr. Belcher taught Industrial Arts at Peary from 1967-1969.
Upon leaving Peary he taught at Paint
Branch, Sherwood, and Edison High Schools, until he retired in 1996.
During his retirement he taught boating safety classes and was a flotilla
commander with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He
and his wife also enjoyed time at their condo in Venice, FL.
Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife, Becky; two children from his first
marriage; four step-children; 13 grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren. Mr. Belcher touched the lives of many students
and we are all much better individuals because
of him.
Sad news from Judy Ibach Brookins (1970): Mrs. Marguerite Ferro passed away 8/22/03,
after losing a
courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
"Margie", as she was best known to the many
people who loved her, was the wife of John
Ferro, Sr. and the mother
of five children, four of them Peary
grads: Bonnie Ferro Thomas; my ex, John Ferro (1965);
Judy Ferro Rosaasen (1969); Laurie Ferro
Carmody (1970-deceased); and Dave Ferro (1973).
Many alums may remember Margie from the days that
she worked in the Peary cafeteria as a cashier; she treated
us all as if we were her own kids and knew
each one of us by name.
Please keep her family in your prayers as they manage through their loss. She
was my
"mom" for almost 18 years,
and the most wonderful grandma ever to my children and
grandchildren, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Robert B. Gardner (faculty) passed away on Saturday March 15, 2003
Services were
held March 19th
at Twinbrook Baptist Church.
Mr. Gardner
was father of several Peary student alums (Linda-76,
Nancy-79, & John-82).

From Paul Hassler (1970-79): I've retired from MCPS after 30.5 years of teaching. The following
attended a retirement party held for me at my own house. How they kept
that a secret, I'll never know:
Ed Burlas, Bob Gardner, Hilda Gardner,
Gary Myers, Tom Nawrocki all attended and many others
called and wished
me well.
As all of you I miss the good the bad and the ugly of Peary H.S. It was
a short 8 years of my life, but was
extremely enlightening. I'll always
remember the wrestlers, the baseball and volleyball players I coached,
the variety shows, the photography club and all of the other things I
did with Peary students. Traveling to
western Maryland on hunting
trips, to Atlantic City to work on Mrs. Lucks apartment with Pearyites
and a
multitude of other things we did in the community called Aspen
Hill.
Peary had rich tradition of which I was given a chance to be a part of
the splendor of what was
once Husky Land. --

Mr. Clarke's Retirement
Mr.
Robert Clarke retired June 2000 after having taught in Montgomery
County for thirty-three years. His colleagues in the Social Studies
Department at Richard Montgomery High School hosted a
retirement/farewell party for him. As part of the evening's activities, Mr.
Clarke was presented with a "Memory Book" that was a compilation of
messages, notes, remembrances, memories, wishes, etc. from his former students
and colleagues at Peary, Rockville, and Richard Montgomery high schools.
Also retired...Marylah Clark Martin, former secretary at Peary,
from MCPS (Woodlin Elementary School), and Mary
Thomson (Gaithersburg Middle School).
